i really don't get people who say that steve is the good example of masculinity when 1) he pretty much becomes a hero bc of some damn serum that makes him buff (not to mention how ableist that might be given that steve was born scrawny, and was only "useful" when he became strong), and 2) steve barely openly cries beyond two tears iirc, and none of them are for his literal best friend who dies TWICE. steve is literally the white cis male creator's pet that gets little to no character depth, that is never depicted as flawed, that gets everything he wants and never faces the consequences.
mcu steve really fucking sucks.
Oh boy, do I have some feelings on this...
Steve isn't just scrawny, he has multiple medical conditions that make him unfit to serve, but he spits on homefront work and continues to try to force himself into the role of a frontline soldier for his own ego. And lemme tell you, in the real world there were visually fitter men rejected from WWII service for congenital issues like heart defects, who swallowed their wounded masculinity, accepted that combat service would be a risk to their unit and its objectives, and served in the factories and shipyards WITH PRIDE.
(Yeah, I'm still pissed at that narrative and the presentation of such selfish behavior as self sacrificing.)
Also, I find it funny to claim the character as portraying healthy masculinity when he risked the Lemurian Star operation to Fight Like A Man when Bartoc... what, double-dog dared him?
I respect the desire of every fan to see a character as their best potential, but don't claim that vision as canon.
Honestly, the fact that we never got a War Machine movie with Tony as a background comic relief character is a tragedy. Like, a legitimate movie for my boy Rhodey, but every once in a while Tony wanders by in the background with a cup of coffee and his shirt on backwards.
james "rhodey" rhodes, a black man, went to mit. in the 90's. that's a LOT y'all. he's fucking smart please give him more credit
if we go by that spring break line in the first iron man, he went in the 80s, which is even more impressive. a young black aerospace engineer??? walking around mit???
in '87????
in the 1987-1988 year, the student body was 85% white.
it was 3% black, the second smallest demographic aside from indigenous people (which didn't even hit a tenth of a percent).
in 1989, the mit sigma phi epsilon fraternity was making racist posters of their black members and handing them out as party invitations.
an internal study done in 1986 reported that it was not safe for black students to live in dorms and there weren't policies in place to report discrimination. the general conclusion was that black students had a distinct disadvantage living and learning at mit.
put some respect on james rupert rhodes' name. not only was his smart enough to get in, he was strong enough to survive.
(mcu) tony stark is canonically:
an alcoholic
abused and emotionally neglected by his also alcoholic father in his entire childhood (*the mcu does confirm this even if it tries to paint howard in a "good" light, check the comics related to im2)
also visibly groomed and almost egregiously killed by his mentor who took him in when tony was young, essentially taking advantage of that to take over stark industries and the belic industry
traumatized with clear (complex?) ptsd and panic attacks
responsible of his weapons being illegally sold to terrorize ppl (ofc i agree the portrayal in the movie is flawed, but he doesn't even mean to expose it to the media for status. well he said iron man to the journalists which is my next point:)
heavily punished for the consequences of his actions - revealing his identity to the world, especially for trying to mess with a known terrorist in live TV. iron man 2 and 3 are all about the direct and indirect consequences of his actions, and also his father's legacy, remember howard is the one that created stark industries in the first place. and tony ultimately decides no i'm not my father, i don't need to be him, i'm not gonna continue this cycle of war and violence neither at myself or other ppl
uninterested to work with the military from the very beginning, perfectly knew the government would take his suits and transform them in military weapons. this is the whole fucking plot of iron man 2? it's presented as a bad thing?? stane wanted to create an armor of iron men, in im2 it does happen and it's a fucking disaster!!! tony didn't want the iron men used in war! they would 100% kill innocent ppl with his suits just like they did his weapons before. why would tony want that???
manipulated by wanda with the vision of all his allies dead
still perfectly willing to take up responsibility for ultron
the creator of vision, consequently taking away jarvis the only remaining connection he had to his beloved father figure
the most dedicated to keep the avengers together
the first one to want to listen to steve without immediately trusting the government. he actually changes his mind after team cap is arrested! he talks to sam! he tries to understand where steve comes from and doesn't actually fight bucky until the news of his parents. which he has every goddamn reason not to be "rational" about btw
even after losing his team, still a caring mentor/father figure to peter parker. ofc he was unreachable at first, but after homecoming he made sure he and peter were on the same page! they regularly began to communicate!
a good friend to harley keener, gave him all the good tech! and avenged his dora watch
nebula's first friend and the first person who tells nebula she's a winner, not comparing her to gamora or anyone else knowing exactly how it is to have a father that doesn't love them
the group's dad friend. really. he takes care of everyone. he's the first to reach out. he doesn't judge thor at all iirc!
the best dad in the entire mcu (ofc right there with scott lang but scott is actually canonically best grandma, so tony is best dad, it's canon)
the entire back of the franchise. whether you like this or not
feel free to add to the list i certainly forgot something but here you go
This feels like a weird thing to post on Tumblr but I am running out of both options and time so.
I am looking to rehome my grandmother’s two adult cats. She recently moved into assisted living and was unable to take them with her, and unfortunately neither my own cat or my landlord are cat friendly so I cannot keep them myself.
Sadie and Zoe are super sweet girls in need of a loving and quiet home. Sadie is a 4 y/o spayed female black and white shorthair and Zoe is a 10 y/o spayed female torbie shorthair. They are both incredibly friendly but are still a bit shy - they have been removed from her condo and relocated closer to me, which has been a big change for them. Both of them are up to date on rabies and RCP and have had recent exams and blood work. They are both slightly overweight and will need some dietary changes going forward but otherwise are in very good health.
These cats are currently located in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut but I am willing to rehome them to anyone who is willing to make the drive and can provide a positive vet reference - the reference is non-negotiable. They MUST stay together as they are a bonded pair. I do have some supplies that will get sent with them, including litter boxes and Frontline.
They would be fine with other cats, but would not do well with high energy or large breed dogs or young children. Older/less energetic/smaller dogs and older children would be okay.
Anyone with interest or resources is welcome to DM me! And even if you don’t have either of those, a reblog is always helpful!
RB to crowdsource a home for these beautiful girls.
i am 100% serious when i say the irondad community carried their relationship that the actual studio didn’t need to do much.
it’s when they’re gone i realize how much we’ve been robbed of tony/rhodey/pepper’s interactions with peter that would have made infinity war/endgame so much more heart shattering
it pisses me off that they claimed these two had a familial relationship but then did absolutely jack shit to actually show us! not even bare minimum!
tony and peter’s relationship could have been really sweet especially post nwh had they had actual VISUAL CANON proof that they were close
I am once again maladaptive daydreaming about an Irondad TV show that takes place in between Homecoming and Infinity War that shows the natural progression of their relationship, has Mac Gargan as the leading villain (just so the Homecoming credit scene ACTUALLY means something), and shows smaller moments that setup other things in the spidey sequels (Peter catching feelings for MJ, the moment Tony decides to give EDITH to Peter, etc).
We were ROBBED. That’s all I have to say.
bbc merlin funniest show of all time they make magic a metaphor for being gay and come down firmly on the side of homophobia and staying in the closet
A list of nicknames that Tony Stark has called Peter Parker and no one can convince me otherwise:
Petey-Pie (found out that Peter’s mother used to call him that when he was little and decided he’ll NEVER let him live it down)
Peter Pan (same thing)
Itsy Bitsy (just to be an asshole)
Bambino (happened ONE time before The Blip on accident. Post-Blip it become a regular thing)
Literally just. Any term of endearment in Italian
Buddy (this isn’t cannon!!! Literally cried when I found out)
Peter Benjamin (not really a nickname but it happens after Peter gets himself hurt on a mission and when he hears it he RUNS)
Good Morning.
Remember what they took from us.
If Marvel could let Peter Parker have a loved one that he doesn’t have to watch die I would appreciate that.
I can’t believe Tony really uttered the words “skedaddle young buck” and the irondad fandom almost completely ignored this as if Peter doesn’t deserve to roast him for this for the rest of his life
Peter: I have a science headcanon!
Tony: Can’t you just say you have a hypothesis like a normal person?
Peter:
Peter: So my science headcanon is –
sorry but i can’t take anyone who says tony was just as wrong in civil war seriously because if you just left your tony hate at the door and watched the movie you’d see that he tried to do everything right but team cap are the ones who escalated things. they refused to sign the accords even though they could have worked to make adjustments to them as time went on, caused havoc because of bucky, had wanda throw vision through several floors and initiated the fight at the airport. tony also was holding himself back in that fight because steve and bucky would’ve been dead in a heartbeat but that’s not the outcome he wanted and how was he repaid? by having a shield slammed in his chest and left to die. and you want me to believe what he did was just as bad? be fucking serious.
Team Cap (especially Steve) only got off easy because the avengers have plot armor. The whole world could have sued them six ways to Sunday like it would have happened if it were real.
