Tosh remained silent, turning his words over in her mind. She knew he meant well, but Torchwood was tiny. UNIT was huge. What could five people, including herself, do against a whole army if they really wanted to take her again. 

Still, she wanted to believe, to hope.

“Do you promise?”

“Of course I do, yeah. And jack would make it rain hell on Earth before they could touch ya.” He took her hand in his.

“And if need be, I’d be ya knight in shining armour- not that ya need one, because you’re already no damsel in distress, but ya get what I mean- and I’d run into hiding with you. Heck. I think the whole team would, but I definitely would in a heartbeat.”

Tosh huffed a laugh at the thought of Jack taking on all of UNIT single-handedly - actually, there was a good chance he’d come out on top, too, since he didn’t care about red tape as much as they did.

She squeezed his hand, fighting off a smile. Her knight in shining armour. A bit rusty, maybe a little banged up, but hers. “Careful, Owen, you’ll make me think you care,” she teased.

“I think it’s about time that I did, don’t you think. Can’t be a cold bastard my whole life, not when there’s a woman like you around me everyday.” He winks.

“I’m an idiot for not actually asking you for a date earlier, but heh, I’ve never thought that I was good enough for anyone. Wasn’t for my ma, I let down Katie and others at the hospital... I even opened the rift to get you and jack back and almost destroyed the world.”

Toshiko has been waiting for this for much longer than anyone realises, and definitely longer than what she will ever admit to. She kinda wants to make him sweat a little, because she also knew this particular request was coming, but she just can’t bring herself to do that. 

So instead, she just smiles and takes the rose, smelling it and trying to not blush. “Yes, Owen Harper, I will go out on a date with you.”

Owen couldn’t help but beam, his usual sour expression no where in sight. “Thats- That Great!” he laughed rather breathless from the awe he was feeling, and rubbed the back of his neck.

“So er- Coffee shop or restaurant? Im a bit stuck between the two choices that i have so i guess you can pick.” He gave her his usual charming smile.

For some daft reason he could imagine jack tearing up at the sight of them both…. a daft romantic the man was…. gosh he hoped he wont start meddling.

“How about lunch? A nice middle ground between coffee shop and restaurant. And then… see where the afternoon takes us?” She hoped she didn’t sound too eager, though honestly, Owen could take her to the morgue and it would be the best date she’d ever been on.

“Ah- yeah! Yeah. Sounds good to me...” he nods, before quickly looking at his watch.

“Well, it’s almost noon... do you wanna go now, if jack allows it I mean? Can’t just run off out on the captain. We can go and get lunch together.”
