in my mind this is all one storyline thing where they manage to find some kind of space mumbo jumbo shortcut between Erid and Earth that massively reduces travel time, so Rocky and Grace go on a political (vacation) trip to Earth to build further connections between the two planets...
...and with Rocky being one of the two saviors of both planets naturally needing to come along as well, he gets a human body to (temporarily) transfer his consciousness into
(keeps their profiles lower, cuts the time, effort and storage space that would normally go into a mobile life support system for Rocky etc - eridian scientists probably also just wanted to see if they could, now that they've figured out stable stem cell based cloning for lab grown protein for Grace)
...... full transparency, I just wanted a plot excuse to have Grace and Rocky hang out on earth and get into shenanigans while Rocky experiences being human for a while and I'm having fun <3
