I feel like making sure someone is okay mentally BEFORE asking them to make plans or just do anything in general and NOT getting upset with them if they aren't, should be normalized. It's so exhausting having to pretend to be fine to not inconvenience anyone when YOU'RE the one in a weird place. And shame on the people who make it seem like you're just a "Debby downer" I think if they're truly a friend they'll take time to make sure you're all good.
