Alarm is perpetually set for 6:30 AM, and he only sleeps in on high holidays.
At the gym before 7 AM every day and works out for 60 minutes.
The only time he has more than one drink as a nightcap is when he doesn’t have to work the next day (which is, basically, never.)
He has been known to use cocaine or Adderall recreationally if he needs a pick-me-up, but he’s very particular about every aspect of it and it’s very infrequent.
Has a standing phone call with his father for 30 minutes at 3 PM on weekdays.
Eats brunch with their parents on Sunday mornings pretty religiously. The only real variation in this is sometimes they let him cook. (Usually not, though, and definitely not since the breakup because he doesn’t want them at his apartment.)

It was a little controversial when Greg Walsh took up with Valerie King. Walsh was a significant and powerful last name, and Valerie was a woman of color in a place where there weren’t many women of color. He was also young to settle down with anyone according to society when he was a ‘man with such promise.’ That was a significant portion of the reason the couple named their son after Greg, to give him an air of legitimacy even though they weren’t married when he was born. That would come later. Weeks later.
The product of their union, Gregory Benedict, has a strong opinion on all of it to this day. None of this opinion is particularly favorable. However, it happened and there’s nothing Ben, as he prefers to be called, can do to change that.
Except only use his legal name on documents that require it. And he wears his mother’s face, according to the handful of pictures he’s kept, though, there’s nothing he can do about his face.
He also didn’t have control over the fact that all the money in the world couldn’t save Valerie when she died before giving birth to her second child, another son. The baby also died. Ben, less than two years old at the time, doesn’t remember any of it. He doesn’t remember his mother at all. The only memories of a mother he’s got are of Amelia Walsh, Greg’s second and all-around more ‘appropriate’ wife. (Depending on who you ask. Ben has some thoughts on that, too.)
It’s not that Amelia has ever been terrible to him. No, in the end, he’s the oldest son of a very traditional family and that means more than some of the other details. When siblings were born and adopted following his father’s remarriage, Ben was expected to be an example, to walk the walk and talk the talk of being a Walsh. Because he’s smart and more than a little ambitious, he figured it out pretty quickly. Because some small part of him intrinsically carries that doubt of belonging, just beneath the surface, he’s always been a little afraid to do anything but what he’s supposed to. That means fitting in, being bold and confident like a Walsh is supposed to be, and definitely doing his best to make their father proud.
For Ben, that has always meant excellence in sports, academics, and optics. While he is bold and opinionated, there is always an underlying need to earn Greg’s approval and, as a result of his tenacity, he’s got that approval in spades. Fortunately, he’s always been able to keep up. Unfortunately, it’s exhausting and has created some tension within their family when they’re not all on the same page. He created a relationship with his stepmother when he attended law school at UBC. Though due to concerns over nepotism he wasn’t allowed to be in her class, they bonded through the experience and have continued lively debates and conversations while he’s been practicing law. His relationship with his father has continued to grow as Ben has gotten older and proven himself capable of maintaining an image consistent with the Walsh brand.
Underneath it all, though, Ben is kind of bored. Part of him wants something that’s just his, even if it’s not the best house in the nicest neighborhood, or the latest car, the most prestigious position in the best law firm in Vancouver. He was engaged for a while, and that relationship felt like maybe something that would be just his, but it went up in smoke thanks to his trainwreck of a younger brother. In spite of the optics, he never told their dad how the relationship fell apart. Maybe he’s hoping to foster something with his younger brother? Or maybe he’s just saving it as an ace in his pocket.
