what always sticks out to me about bob is that he has no clue who johnny is. like he beat johnny so badly that johnny thought he was going to die. bob permanently disfigured johnny. johnny is deeply traumatized by the assault when we meet him. and the first time they encounter each other again bob has no idea who johnny is. the brutal assault left no impact on him and he never thought of johnny again (if anything we see an escalation in bob's violence from the attack on johnny to the attack on pony). it really speaks to the senselessness of the violence that hinton writes about, and how systems of oppression work to dehumanize a group of people. as a whole the greasers are viewed as a faceless and nameless part of society, expendable and useless and replaceable - or, in other words, "trash". to bob, johnny and pony really are just "trash"

i will personally never understand that thing people do when theyre like "i thought this was a good piece of art until i realised its fetish/pornographic" like why does art lose value if the artist was a little horny when they made it. why is that so scary. im sure a lot of the old masters were doing portraits of their lovers slightly bricked up & theyre still displayed in museums. why is sexual arousal not an acceptable source of inspiration when like every other emotion is. well i mean i know why sadly but i do not like it so i'll continue to complain about it
