There was no tension between them. There shouldn’t be regardless of where they stood in their current lives. Their opinions of each other never changed, in fact, Demi considers Amiyah as a HUGE exception to her perception of Cobras. Although their paths are no longer intertwined, she refused to ignore their years together. “Ha, ha very funny.” Sarcasm seeping through the captain’s tone. “I wouldn’t even think you had kids Miyah. In fact, you can probably slay a trash bag for all I know. Speaking of kids, how are they?” Once upon a time, Demi wanted a family. Now she wasn’t even sure if it’s worth it, but that’s a story that should be left for another time. “Perfect.” She then looked over at the bartender and ordered a round for themselves, along with a shot of something strong to get them through the night. They were definitely going to need it.
“This truce. It’s stupid and pathetic. However, if I had to take one good thing out of it, then perhaps it’s this moment right now.” She rarely, if not never, expressed much of her true feelings to anyone. However, she thought it was best to say it now before things turned to shit.
Demi and Amiyah were cut from the same cloth regardless of where they were now. They had the same ideals, the same outlook when it came to a lot of things and they were understanding of one another. There was once a time Amiyah wouldn’t take ownership of the side she took, placing the blame or rather redirecting it toward the person she fell in love with as a kid. But now? She knows no one is holding a gun to her head yet she continuously makes the choice. As much as she hates the rivalry, she likes the position. She can do so much when she’s on top and that’s her hope. Laughing at Demi’s reaction, Amiyah can feel that they’re back to being themselves, pushing their titles to the back of their minds. At least for that night. “A trash can.” She chuckles, some of her accent pouring out as it did when she was around Demi because the other woman always reminded her of home. “They’re alright. Eliza is in Boston with her uncles. Refused to come home for the holidays. But Matteo is here, still at the station. He likes it there. They’re both such great kids.”
Arching a brow at the order, a small smirk pulled at Amiyah’s lips, already looking forward to it. “I wouldn’t say stupid.” She couldn’t help but chuckle at the rest of the statement, lightly placing her head on Demi’s shoulder. It felt like old times, alright. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t come looking forward to meeting with old friends without worrying about soldiers standing between us. It’s like a Shakespearean tragedy, truly.”
“I am enjoying this party as much as can be expected. I don’t normally mingle with so many of my enemies you know. But even in a den of snakes, there are a few diamonds to be discovered.” He smiled hinting that she was, of course, one of those said diamonds. He had actually been surprised by how many Cobras he’d met that hadn’t immediately wanted to kill him. It was refreshing even if he did think they’d change their minds as soon as the treaty was lifted.
“I don’t normally mingle at all so that makes two of us.” She grinned at his words, knowing what he meant and feeling slightly flattered by it all. “Careful. Diamonds can be rough.” She wasn’t going to argue the point considering some of her closest friends were on the opposite gang. The truce helped, of course. “You look quite handsome by the way. A good look for you.”
she’s someone he’s always felt a sense of security around. he trusts amiyah explicitly and he hopes the same can be said in return. there weren’t many he could indulge in being one hundred percent his authentic self around, but the female was one of a handful and he appreciated more than words could truly uncover that he’d bumped into her tonight. without question, he follows her through the seemingly growing crowd, giving her hand a gentle squeeze of appreciation. stan had always struggled to admit when…he was struggling, it wasn’t a part of his dna. it was in the little ways he moved and reacted that one was able to tell. though one would have to know him well, amiyah was one of those people he predicted. laughter leaves his lips as she explains her night, “tell me about it. i’ve never felt more of an old man than i do tonight.” he’ll admit, talking a little louder than usual, and not enjoying it. “you look beautiful as always, really – putting everyone else to shame.” he’ll admit, before nodding his head, “oh yes, please. take me away from here.” he teases, but there was a sincerity in his words, that he was sure of all people amiyah would be able to detect.
This friendship she has with Stan is a dangerous one and now with the truce, it feels almost natural to allow herself to be open about it, holding his hand, sticking close to him, spending time with him at the party. She doesn’t even realize until they’re trying to make it out of the party that this is the first time they’re actually able to be themselves. It’s refreshing and while she’s a skeptic when it comes to this entire truce, she wants to at least relish in the benefits. “You and me both. I feel like an old man too.” She chuckles and feels the warmth in her cheeks at the compliment. “Thank you, Stan. Charming me as always.” She already detects the fact that he needs to be out of there and she takes it upon herself to lead the way, opening the door to an exit and taking in the fresh air as they make it outside. “Much better.” It’s not long before she’s cold but it’s worth it to have some quiet. “Better for you?”
“Would you truly? I’m flattered.” He sent a charming smile to the table as the other men and a few women sent him a glare for stealing the attention of their beautiful guest. “I would be honored. He held his hand out for her take and led her away towards the bar. “I think I might have upset them.” He nodded at the table she’d been previously sitting at, not an an ounce of apology in his tone.
“Absolutely.” She grinned when he smiled at the table and Amiyah grabbed her clutch to follow him, taking Rafael’s hand as she did. “Upset them?” She looked over her shoulder with a smirk, catching the reaction and shaking her head. “They seem to be convinced I’m the lucky charm there but even a talisman has to party, right?” Amiyah leaned against the busy bar and smiled up at her new company. “Are you enjoying yourself?”
hope for peace had dwindled over the years, though stan had tried his utmost to at least hold onto a thread of it, or at least appear to for the sake of everyone else that depended on him. nerves run rampant, but he doesn’t want the world to become aware of that fact. a friendly face is exactly what he needs and as if on cue, he spots amiyah in the distance, exactly the person he needed in that moment. it doesn’t take him long to approach her, hoping to get to her before she turns around – so he can stun and astound her with his presence. “…well well well, if it isn’t my favourite human being in the room. or perhaps the world.” he speaks with enthusiasm, thankful to be in the presence of someone he knows he can trust. a face that reminds him that perhaps peace is possible, if they allow it to be. he wraps his arms around her coolly, places his glass against the bar behind her. “how’ve you been then, ami? having a good time?” he hopes she is, whilst stan liked to withhold from violent acts – now, he was more than willing to fight on behalf of those he loved, cared about. // @benevolcntintent
The familiar voice causes her to perk up almost immediately, ignoring her present conversation so she could turn to fully pull him into an embrace. “Stan!” She greeted him warmly and kissed his cheek. “I’m so glad you’re here” and she truly was. Her long time friend always knew how to bring a smile to her face and ease her concerns. At his question, she reaches for his hand and threads their fingers together so they can walk around the place and find a place where they can sit and talk. “I’ve been alright? It’s so hot in here and a bit stuffy? And loud!” She yelled over the music, a laugh escaping her lips. “It’s nice! You look handsome as always! Want to go outside and chat for a bit?” She needed the fresh air and if she knew Stan well (which she did) he probably needed it too.
This peace was something Raf didn’t exactly believe in but new people around meant so many new possibilities and he was not about to pass those possibilities up. Therefore here he stood in the middle of a Cobra casino torn between concern for Mariana and the thrill that came with the added danger of mingling so closely with the enemy. A flash of blonde caught his eye and he smiled as he made his way to the familiar woman. He leaned closer to her, speaking over the music. “I see you are not celebrating alone this time.”
When she felt a presence beside her, Amiyah grinned, shaking her dice before rolling and celebrating at her newest win before turning in her spot to face the other. “Raf. Well, if I knew I’d be seeing you here, I would have searched for you.” She chuckled and looked around at her present company; a few gamblers here and there and some other officials. “Well. Still alone. Just surrounded by people.” She gathered her earnings and tossed the chips into her clutch. “Drinks? On me. I’m rich now apparently.” A tease, of course. The winnings were minimal.
ugh god, why did she say her name like that? why was she so attractive? why did she want to scream at this lady that she was married and had three children, as if to say stay away from me. not that she’d ever dream of having anything with her, but she just… had an effect on her. one night and then never seeing someone again was something that had an effect on a young rochelle. “amiyah.” she greeted her, a little stiffly. “apparently, yes.” she added, still uncomfortable and fighting the urge to run. “you’re back… i haven’t… seen you in, well years.” twelve years. she knew how many.
in truth, Amiyah could admit to making mistakes and never making the attempt to get in contact with Rochelle again was one of them. While they were both aware it was all just for fun, she couldn’t help but acknowledge that it was too much fun. Enough for Amiyah to remember vivid details of their night (and morning) spent together. She could sense the tension between them and chose to lighten up the mood by continuing the conversation. “I am. I know it’s been such a long time. You look beautiful as the day we met.” Amiyah reached for a flute from the silver trays being carried around. “How have you been? What’s new here?”
Demetria silently cursed the moment she heard the familiar voice of her past. She kept her distance when it came to Amiyah, someone who she had once looked up to back when they grew up in South Africa. However, it was difficult, especially when they’ve had quite a history together. “Since when am I ever wrong?” mused Demi with a scoff. She then remained silent as the blonde spoke on and finally, her lips cracked into a small smile as she nodded in response. “And so are you Amiyah. You’ve got the theme down to a tee.” Noticing that she didn’t have a glass in hand, she then politely asked, “Did you want something to drink?”
She knew that with the rivalry, their friendship was unconventional but it truly had been too long and see Demetria again stirred up some old feeling of attachment that Amiyah couldn’t simply ignore. Not when there was a truce in place. “Hm. Good point. Though...I can probably point out an occasion or three.” She teased her old friend, a smile cracking from her own lips in response to seeing Demi’s smile. “Well, it’s my favorite theme as you know. I had to go all out.” She nodded at the question, glad that for a moment, the ice has been broken and followed Demi toward the bar. “I would love a drink.”
Demetria might as well off herself right now over the ridiculous thought that two enemies could share common ground. But alas, here she was, dressed in black as if she was attending a funeral, a drink in hand and her cane in the other. With a darkened gaze, she kept her sight on the crowds of people in front, before looking over to a presence beside her and asking, “How long do you think it’ll take till someone displays bad behaviour?” Her lips curled into a devlish smile as she brought forth her opinion. “I believe the obvious choice will be when the alcohol kicks in don’t you think?”
“I sure hope you’re wrong.” Amiyah had mustered up the courage to approach her old friend and while it was probably the worst decision at any other time, this was the best way to get rid of what stood between them. The Casino was open for everyone and peace was the theme of the night so when she was addressed by the woman who obviously hadn’t realized who she was talking to, she cleared her throat, a smile reserved only for someone she loved gracing her features. “Hello, Demetria. You look stunning.”
rochelle walked around quite cocky and considering what she was packing, she felt that word applied quite well. she still couldn’t believe that aside from a gun and knife, she was also hiding quite the different ‘gun’ in her trousers and though walking around without looking weird was hard, she was managing. she couldn’t wait to surprise her wife by pulling her close and having her feel her surprise. she looked over at the love of her life talking with some friends and hadn’t noticed that she ran straight into another person, luckily they both weren’t holding any beverages.
as she looked up, her mouth opened slightly as she looked into the face of an old one night stand, twelve years ago or so this woman had absolutely rocked her world and disappeared… and now, she was right here. holy shit. “oh.” was all she managed to say as the blush on her face was instantaneous. this lady had seen her in positions and had seen her body do things, only her wife had seen and it felt very naked.
Amiyah had busied herself with spectating, her eyes on everyone that walked through the main door. She wasn’t the type to trust these type of things. Anytime there was a crowd, she swore she aged a bit more. Treaties meant nothing in her eyes. Actions spoke louder and so she kept herself reserved, hoping that she was just paranoid. Whatever the case, Amiyah was here to keep an eye on her son and hope that this wasn’t another episode of Valdez’s finest ruining a good thing.
When someone bumped into her, it pulled her focus and for a moment, she was almost grateful. Tilting her head to the side as her brow rose slowly, she let out a small laugh. “Rochelle.” She grinned and looked around. “Well, you know what they say about the world. Rather small.”
⋆ ◦ ° ☾ charlize theron + cis female + she/her — amiyah “miyah” Pillay? they sure have been hanging out at the cobra estate a lot recently. they are forty-five year old known as the circumspect, and they currently work for the cobras as a council member, which they’ve been doing for six years. a bisexual sagittarius, they are strategic + wise, as well as cryptic + skeptical. blurred face, baby in arms, dark red lipstick. She was born and raised (until the age of 12) in South Africa and on a military base. Her father, a decorated Admiral and soon to be an advisor to the President, received a promotion and amazing opportunity in the states and he decided to turn down the advisor position to focus on his family so they’d move around less. Amiyah’s mother passed away from complications of childbirth after having her. She has an older brother, married to his husband and living in Boston, Ma whom she is incredibly close to.
When she arrived to the United States, she struggled with fitting in and making friends right away which is why Amiyah started hanging out with members of the Cobras. She didn’t think anything of it, thought that they were just immature teenagers and that the gang rivalry meant nothing. That’s when she met her first love. She fell in love with one of the boys and were inseparable. After leaving South Africa (the only home she knew), this boy became her home. Her father opened up his home to the troubled young man and she knew he was the love of her life.
Amiyah became pregnant with her son Matteo when she was only 16 years old and her father, while upset at first, offered her and her boyfriend the chance to move in with them and raise their child. They were married at 18, happy and very much in love. She was his biggest supporter and advocate, often getting into arguments with her husband’s father who treated him poorly. After the birth of their son, she no longer wanted her husband to be involved with the gangs but he continued while she chose to ignore a lot to make her marriage work. She feared for her husband’s life every single day.
Despite the issues surrounding the gangs, Amiyah and her husband still loved one another unconditionally until he returned from his service in the military. He was different and she could tell. Amiyah offered him help, pleading him to speak to her father or to seek counseling. However, something had changed in her husband and she couldn’t reach him anymore. Their connection was hanging by a thread. On a night of confrontation, Amiyah and her husband had a terrible fight that made her believe her life and her son’s life was in danger. It was that night that she chose to leave her home. Matteo was 7 years old.
Living back on the base with her father, she continued raising her son and decided to enlist as well. Her father’s political influence drew her in and it sparked an interest within her. She met a much older man on base. He was a friend of her father’s and his friends and they began to date within months of meeting one another. Amiyah ended up pregnant with a girl, Eliza. While it wasn’t love, she did respect the man she was with who gave her the stability she needed. When Matteo turn 10 years old and Eliza turned three, they moved to South Africa after her now fiance landed a position there. Her father joined them and things were great for a while.
Five years passed and Amiyah was happy after serving, returning to school and learning about politics and business. She was rather successful in South Africa. Things were perfect. Her kids were happy and she was finally falling in love with her husband (Eliza’s father). Amiyah had remarried a few months after stepping foot back home. Unfortunately, her husband became very ill and their union only lasted those five years. He passed away from complications of diabetes.
Heartbroken, she fell into work and into taking care of her kids, travelling back to Valdez to visit friends but always avoiding the ghosts of her pasts and most importantly, her first husband. Six years ago, she had returned to Valdez on a long-term trip where she had learned more about the Cobras and befriended some members. It was at that point that she was told that her skills could be used within the gang. She didn’t want to run into her ex but knew that it was inevitable so she kept it professional, travelling back and forth until about three years ago, her son decided to move to America again. Her father also decided to make the final move so that he could retire in Valdez and Amiyah couldn’t turn down the offer to do the same. She wanted to be close to her family. She waited until Eliza finished off her fall semester before her full return to Colorado and days before the big move, she received the call that her father had passed away. Eliza decided she wanted to continue her studies abroad and Amiyah stayed in Colorado with her son where she chose to lay down her roots once more.
She’s a council woman for the Cobras but aspires to become a politician in Valdez.
Personality:
Amiyah is strong-willed. Very cautious of the people she allows into her life.
She does not trust easily and if she does trust you, she will be there for you always.
She’s clever and has incredible foresight.
She is rigid and believes in rules. Is tough as nails.
Despite her usual demeanor, Amiyah is compassionate and charitable.
She is a devoted mother and will do anything for her family.
Amiyah has had enough heart break that has almost jaded her when it comes to the topic of love and romance.
WC:
The Cobras that brought her into the gang- When she made one of those trips to Valdez, someone definitely spoke to her and made the Cobras attractive. This could be your muse!
The Hookup- So she doesn’t believe in love but doesn’t mean she can’t keep her bed warm especially when she’s traveling.
The one that got away- Could be someone from when she was a kid in Valdez or someone she’s hooked up with while traveling but basically there are feelings there they both try to ignore yet every time they run into each other, it’s a different story. Can be in their mid thirties ++
Okay, guys! That’s all! Like this, if you would like to plot! Love youuuuuu!!!!
Hey my lovelies. Ugly mobile post. I'm going to change a few things on Amiyah and redo her intro so hang tight ! Ill be home in a couple of hours and will post then.
she shook her head softly, strands of gold falling out of her bun, not believing the other. maybe the younger blonde wasn’t meant to cook, everyone had their own qualities and hers most definitely weren’t in the kitchen. ‘ only because you’re helping me out otherwise this whole plays would be on fire, ’ she joked, trying to lighten up the situation. her hands moved to the cherry tomatoes, so she could slice them up with a knife; cutting something she excelled at and there wasn’t much of a difference between a scalpel and knife. ‘ yes, boss. ’ placing the sharp object down madeleine playfully saluted. ‘ as ready as can be. ’
Amiyah chuckled at the other’s words and shook her head. “If it makes you feel better, I wasn’t a great cook until I learned from my father. I once burned hardboiled eggs. It was…rough.” She grinned at Madeleine and plucked the cutlets from the flour mix, shaking off any excess. Carefully, she dipped the cutlet into the olive oil and watched as it simmered. It already smelled so good, the familiar scent of basil filling the kitchen. “Oh, that smells so nice.”
kenzie smiled brightly at the woman “that’s amazing! happy birthday.” she said trying but failing to give the other a hug over the table so instead settling for a shake of her hand. the young cop didn’t usually celebrate her own birthday but for others she always got very giddy about “tell me about it, how such a beautiful thing causes so much trouble. shouldn’t be allowed.” she let out a playful sigh and smiled at amiyah “quite well, actually. i love it there and i had found i really enjoy the dumb stereotype of cops loving donuts? because there’s always fresh donuts on the break room. what about you? how is life?”
It was always nice to see the young woman—one of Valdez’s finest. Despite her issues with the gangs and her recent affiliation, Amiyah acknowledged the hardworking officers. Amiyah chuckled, holding out her arms in the hug and shook Kenzie’s hand in the end. “The good thing is the city is prepped for the clean-up. Or at least I hope so.” She chuckled at Kenzie’s words. “Who doesn’t love donuts? Life is good. I was at the station visiting Matteo the other day and left you all breakfast. I hope you got to enjoy some of it too.”
He nodded in something akin to understanding. “Sometimes the family we choose is stronger than even a blood relation.” That said this was still not somewhere he’s want to spend a birthday. But for a lady he could at least pretend he was alright with it. “From the smell I think you are right. But it’s no party without a little more flavor.” He sighed and leaned his head back a little. “What I wouldn’t give for a good Tequila right now.”
“I…agree.” She offered him a small smile and gestured toward the seat beside her for him to join her. “A little more flavor?” She chuckled when he mentioned tequila and looked over to the small bar behind the waitress, leaning in to whisper. “This isn’t the place for that but perhaps after you join me for dessert, we can venture out to find something remotely close?”
Arlyn was learning quite a bit about her in a short amount of time - he’d had no idea she had a son. He smiled as she spoke about him, the love apparent in her voice. “I don’t, no. Always have wondered what it’d be like, though.” There had been a point in his life when he’d wanted kids, but all that had gone out of the window when they’d, well, when they’d dumped him. The moment they’d found out he was a Savage…that relationship was doomed. “How old is your son?”
He glanced at the menu, perusing it a bit absent-mindedly. “I’d love some recommendations. I don’t come her very often,” he replied. She clearly knew what she was talking about when it came to this place, so he’d follow her judgement on this one.
“Highly recommend?” She chuckled at her attempt to make a small joke. “My son is 28. I was very young when I had him. Truly my best friend and companion but you know, as they get older they go their own way which I’m happy about. The world can be cruel and he needs to…live his own life. So, you like children?” A smile came to her face at the thought and Amiyah finished off her peace slice.
“Sure! How do you feel about good ol’ spaghetti and meatballs? Their sauce is delicious from what I can remember. Also, Chicken parm.” She grinned, looking over to him. “We can get two different dishes and share. Now that’s an idea.”
