useless Pitt hcs haunting me
Jack Abbot is neutral at best to music. like to the point that he rawdogs most car rides in silence when he drives alone. I fuck with the idea that he has some kind of rural upbringing, and even moreso that he was raised a mama's boy, so I imagine he has some nostalgic fondness for Tammy Wynette, Donna Fargo, and Dolly Parton. his wife brought her records to the marriage ofc and he liked some of her stuff, and listens so it from time to time when he misses her. everyone even casually involved in his personal life is at least tangentially aware of this. HOWEVER, my man would lay down his LIFE for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. It is the only form of music he has bought for himself that he still owns. Listens to the whole thing front to back at least twice a month. He has an original copy from 1998 he bought immediately after hearing it for the first time at the barbershop, a CD he burned for a Discman, an 8-track tape, two vinyls (one in his office and one at home), and a Zen mp3 player where that is the only album. He doesn't sing to it, but he does occasionally hum "Nothing Even Matters (ft. D'Angelo)" under his breath when doing sutures, and bops his head to the rhythm of "When it Hurts so Bad" when he's having a particularly rough day. The first time he hears Robby yell at Mohan can call her Slo-Mo, he burns "Superstar" and ONLY Superstar on a CD and chucks it at his face during a hand-off.
Dennis is indeed the Protestant/Catholic mutt very common in the rural Midwest and isn't as religiously traumatized as people think (which, like, isn't saying much because JESUS). He casually drops that he goes to church on Sundays, and people around him flinch little, worried Dennis is self-flagellating in a Catholic service or trying to "pray away the gay" at an Evangelical. No one pushes to ask, until an older Black woman comes in with heatstroke symptoms one afternoon and she recognizes "Denny baby!" because it turns out Dennis has been going to Central Baptist, an historically Black church over on Wylie, where he has quickly become a beloved regular - appreciated for his peach cobbler (that actually holds its own with the aunties') and the fact that he's willing to make house calls for some in the parish.
McKay has is on the hypermobility spectrum. It isn't impairing most days, but she does get joint pain with severe weather changes. The pain was part of what contributed to her alcoholism, though she's never admitted that to anyone.
Robby knows how to do cornrows. people think it's because of Jake, but actually he had a Black boyfriend in undergrad he was OBSESSED with and learned so they could spend more time together.
Trinity delivered a baby when she was 13. She was stuck on the backroads with a friends mom who was driving her home from a pool party when the woman started going into labor. Really all she had to do was "catch," but she also walked the woman through lamaze breathing, which she learned going to birthing classes with her mother before her little brother was born. Anybody who hears this story thinks it's why she wanted to be a doctor, which is why she doesn't tell it. There's a preteen boy in Canton with the middle name "Trinity," and he doesn't know why yet.
Javadi's parents had her a kid leash until she was 8. She has occasional nonverbal episodes and she was short enough that they would lose her in crowds or at medical conferences when they were distracted.
Langdon did a semester of online clown education on a dare during the summer between undergrad and medical school. He doesn't talk about it - even Abby doesn't know. But he did do the balloon animals for his eldest's third birthday and can juggle up to 18 spheres at once.
Mel minored in poetry. She loves poetry, actually. Most people assume the metaphors and entendres are lost on her, but she is very passionate about the art of Noticing and meter. she struggles at cafe-style open mics, but goes to readings of local magazine prints and author readings some Saturdays.
part of Samira's regulation toolbox includes deep pressure sensory seeking. she didn't realize this was "a thing" for her until she volunteered at an independent living center a year before pittfest. like she'd been doing some of it naturally her whole life: piling on blankets at night, pulling jackets and shirts around tight when she'd get stressed, sought out big partners and kept them on top of her often, even though she was generally touch averse otherwise. Jack catches her shoving herself between meal carts in an empty hallway one day after a long shift. he talks her down from any kind of attack, helps her ease out and checks her ribs for bruises. a week later, she gets a special delivery to her house that is unmarked and repackaged. after that, people think she's put on just a little bit of weight, but actually she's taken to wearing compression vests under her scrubs. there's an outer hugger fleece vest for when seasonally appropriate. regardless of the wear, she keeps the note they came with in her pockets at all time. No one gets the chance to read it but her; she doesn't take it out while at work unless shit gets dire, but it's quite possible (according to Pearlah, who caught her looking at once after a six-car pileup with no survivors; according to Dana, who snuck a peak after taking Mohan's vest to the hub so she could do better chest compressions; according to Robby, who just knows these things) that the handwriting is a familiar squat, pin-straight, micro-script they see on charts all the time. but who's to say?
