Hello 👋 I see many langblrs/studyblrs have intros so I thought I should write one too.

Heritage Languages: English and Spanish. Grew up in a Hispanic household and raised in the States.

Target Languages: Japanese and Korean. I've studied up to the N2 level in Japanese and debating if I should study the N1 content 🥺😵‍💫. I'm on level 9 of the TTMIK core grammar course. (6/23/2024)

Other Language Interests: Italian / Portuguese / French / Russian. Those are just my top interests but I also think Greek / Thai / Arabic / Turkish / Chinese / Hungarian / Polish / German / Swedish / Romanian would be cool to learn down the line.

Outside of languages here's a little about me:

I'm 26 and I have more interests than I do hobbies 😂 The biggest reason is my biggest hobby/career path has to do with languages lol. But anyway, I'm interested in ice skating, kpop choreo, baking, cooking. I like watching movies, tv series (english/spanish/japanese/korean), and anime. Trying to get back into reading again. I am a café girlie 🫠 I am on the hunt for the best matcha latte. I would love to travel more but I've been to Japan and Korea at least once already.

no, in fact i finally found the time to read a few more chapters of this book. for the uninitiated, i read the start of this book many years ago, then put it down, then read most of it last summer, then put it down again....i seriously only have like 30 pages left at this point so come hell or high water i'm going to finish it before i leave for japan! so have some more random vocab!!

nouns:

魔法瓶（まほうびん） = thermos, vacuum flask (lit. magic bottle)

お辞儀（じぎ） = bow, bowing

お行儀（ぎょうぎ） = manners

野外（やがあい） = outdoors, open air

〜係（がかり） = person in charge (of ~)

以前も日記に書いたけど、こちらではクリスマスまでが日本の年末って雰囲気で、クリスマスを過ぎると通常運転。なので今朝もショッピングモールの駐車場は朝からクルマが沢山来てました。

世の中不景気ですけど、お金を持っている方々はいますからね。持っていなくても使っちゃう人いますし、悪い政治家のように一般市民の血税を無駄遣いするバカ先生も沢山いらっしゃる。

MLBの大谷選手、素晴らしい。同じ年頃の子供を持つ親として、親目線で拝見させて頂いてます。

「お金は後から付いてくる・・」って、正にこの事と言うか、純粋な気持ちを大切にしたいですね。裏金工作どうのこうのやってる方々が余計に哀れに見えます。

春の奈良公園　ガスメータの後ボケとクラウンになり切れない水紋を添えて･･

今日は日中20℃越えの陽気。興福寺から歩き始めましたが、ちらほらと桜が咲き始め･･。その足で奈良で一番早い桜と言われる氷室神社へ行くとやはりここは辺りよりも開花が進んでいました。

でもこのポイントも鹿さんと桜の取り合わせがなかなか難しい･･

木蓮の花もピークを迎え、大きな花弁が散り始めていました。

japanese learners/japanese speakers, is there any solid dictionary that i can use to look up words? like larousse for french, is there any websites/dictionaries for japanese?

the most popular online english-japanese dictionary is probably jisho.org. its front page will tell you what it can do, but it will likely have any basic info about a word you would want.

i use the app version of this which is useful, but jotoba also has a website version and the only notable difference is that it makes the pitch accent info more visible.

and honestly you can stop reading here, those two are probably all you really need if you just need a good dictionary. im going to throw in some more useful resources in case you (or anyone else reading this) are interested

weblio (the english-japanese dictionary) is extremely useful for example sentences and looking up phrases.

weblio (again, but this time the japanese-only dictionary) is also very useful if youre more advanced and can read definitions for japanese words in japanese.

コトバンク (kotobank) is probably the best and most popular online japanese dictionary, but only also if you're able to read japanese definitions.

kanjialive is a useful kanji dictionary that is meant for english speakers to understand.

漢字ペディア (kanjipedia) is the best kanji dictionary that native speakers use, but you also need to be able to read some japanese to understand it.

and im not sure how to link these but it's extremely useful to get a browser extension where if you gloss over a japanese word it will show you its definition. some popular ones are rikaikun, 10ten, and yomichan. i'd recommend downloading one so it makes things easier to look up, especially when starting out
