Power ups || Benjamin & Knox
knoxwilliams-sabr:
“Perhaps I should claim that title.” Knox chuckled, watching approvingly as Benjamin took the flask and added its contents to his drink. “Most mornings are emergencies in my opinion.” Knox said, looking to the cup of coffee in his hand before taking a sip. “Especially when you find it hard to function.” He gave a small shrug then, as if it was a basic fix that everyone should be willing to accept.
“Ah, I’m in the business of the law.” He said with a small grin, leaning back comfortably in his chair. “Though I’m making it sound way too alluring.” He added with a small laugh. “I’m a bounty hunter basically, I help the police department bring in those that skip out on bail.” Not the most envious of jobs, but he enjoyed it, plus it gave him the benefit of looking into profiles in hopes of finding his family in the area. “You mentioned a class. Obviously you’re some kind of teacher, what’s the subject content?” He asked curiously.
This sitting down with strangers and conversing was different, though so far pleasant. Knox hadn’t been the most social of people when he first arrived in Los Angeles, but since then he’d really perked up. There was still a real lack of trust for other people, his swaying moods often leading him to give warning looks to any who try to converse with him when he wasn’t having the same urge to talk. For today at least, despite his tiredness, he was willing to step forward and meet someone new. Besides, the man wasn’t unattractive, and so far had managed to keep Knox in his seat.
“Well, experience makes masters.” Benjamin shrugged with a smile and kept on drinking his spiked coffee, enjoying it more than he should by that time of the morning. “And you’re right on that one, being awake before 8 a.m. should be considered a sin or against human rights.” He added, he wasn’t a morning bird and he did better in the afternoons and evenings, picking up the pace was always a tough process, but he had his coping ways.
As he heard about Knox’s occupation his curiosity woke up and he found it incredibly interesting to meet someone with such profession. “Wow, that’s quite cool, I mean, it shouldn’t be as glamorous as they make it look in Hollywood movies, but nonetheless. How long have you been doing it? is it a full-time job or do you have your own schedule?” Benjamin knew too little about the mechanics of the work with the law, this kind of conversation he found stimulating.
“I’m a professor at UCLA. I teach music production among other things related to the musical field. I’m also a DJ in clubs at night, so you can say I get to know the best of both worlds.” Benjamin was good at talking about his job, but he tried to keep it simple because people didn’t always worry about the details of what producing music was really about. He would answer questions if they were asked, but he would not bore his companion making a spoken essay of his multiple occupations. “What took you to the site? An investigation or just personal curiosity?”

I go to school at USC and I do volunteer work here and there. You?
Wha do you study in USC? i’m a music teacher at UCLA and I am a DJ.

mariana-jimenez-rp:
Oh wow. You’re very talented. How long have you been playing and making music?
Well, thank you. Since I was 4 actually, but in the electronic music world, since I was 17 or something. What do you do?
Marian & Benjamin
marian-byrd:
Definitely. I’ve just been relaxing a bit. How’s the new stuff coming? Any special projects?
I’m producing a rap album, it came in this week and the artist is really talented, we’ll see where this goes. What do you do when bored?
Jason & Ben
jason-mcconnell:
Nah. I mean, you’re right about getting out and trying now things, and I guess so far that’s really what I’m doing. Plus, I’m just trying to get ahead of debt and make my apartment look like less of a slum.
Fair enough, clearing debt is the most important thing to get to do other things after. Are you from here?
Benjamin & Bailey
bailey–simmons:
I know… I know. I just want to get producing set off first.
Well if you ever need help, I’m around
Neslyn & Benjamin
neslyn-beinte:
Ah – those all must be wonderful to teach! There isn’t a particular animal, no. But, I do have my favorites.
it’s fun when you love it and when you don’t pretend to know it all, in music it’s important to keep your mind open. Oh, well, that’s even better, no favorites.

nicholas-simmons:
Sounds like you have a busy schedule because you are teaching, doing music, playing in clubs. Sounds incredible in the end. Even in science not everything can be a formula, you need to keep your mind open to see what nature can show you. It’s evolution, baby.
That sounded better in my head with Eddie Vedder’s voice than here written.
I like to keep my mind active, when I’m bored I become a little exasperating. See, the element of surprise is just as necessary in science just as in music or the arts, there are paths that take you to incredible places. Classic rock fan, huh?

What do you teach? Oh, I’m a Zoologist and I work at the LA Zoo.
I teach music production, technical stuff and contemporary music. Cool job, do you specialize in some animals in particular?
Benjamin & Bailey
bailey–simmons:
Nothing is stopping me… I have small things put together I just never put it out there.
Why not? yours is quality stuff
Ben & Jen
jenmoray:
Originally, I came to the States to be closer with someone, which didn’t go too well. But now I’m working as the director of the LA Parks Department, and I’m loving it.
Wow, those are two very different careers you’ve got there, but that’s fantastic! I’m sure they’re both incredibly interesting. And ah… DJ-ing, that explains your knowledge of the club scene!
How long have you been here? That sounds like a cool job, you out in the field a lot? or is it mostly office work?
They are, and I like to think they are good enough for the people I touch with either of them. I’m a little grown up to go around clubbing carelessly, but here in LA that’s not a surprise. I do it for professional reasons, not because I like to get drunk and stuff.
Ben & Mariana
mariana-jimenez-rp:
Do you only make party music?
Mostly, but I play piano with the Philharmonic too, sometimes.
Ben & Boyce
boyce-redden-sabr:
Thank you. I really appreciate that.
You’re welcome. So, what do you do other than preparing awesome coffee at Java?
Benjamin & Bailey
bailey–simmons:
Uhh… sometime in the distant future.
Distant? what’s stopping you?
Benjamin & Nicholas
nicholas-simmons:
It was. I wanted to do something for myself. I traveled few times with my family, with all, in good hotels. That was different, and I knew I couldn’t do it later. Are you a teacher? Can I read your thesis? I’d love to do it.
I am agree. I don’t like when people told all in life is science, or all is art, is like we need to be inside a religion or something!. We need art and science, period.
I teach at UCLA, I specialize in music production. Of course you can, but you might find it dull, technical stuff all around. Well, sometimes they hold on to their belief of what is right or wrong with too much conviction and that deviates them from the truth.
