Ben cracked a small smile.
“Just because he’s annoying you, doesn’t mean you would have killed him. I know you better than that.”
Amelia groaned and rolled her eyes, crossing her arms, a slight pout to her face. “What’s to cover? We complete our missions in a timely fashion, not much collateral damage, and we haven’t killed each other… I say that makes us pretty damn effective,” she grumbled.
“…Think anyone would notice if we just…happen to accidentally lock him in a box and send him to the Savage Land?”
"I have a feeling it's because they think we're too close." He had actually been thinking about it for a while. "Want to make sure that one of us won't go rogue on a mission to save the other or something." That might not have been that far off for him, though. The fact was, Amelia was one of the best friends he ever had. He really enjoyed having her as a partner, having someone to look out for him, for once. "That, or they just want to annoy us."
‘ I guess I can’t believe you really came.
“What? And miss my own funeral?”
Ben was with Amelia a good distance away from the ceremony, collar turned up, freshly dyed hair under a hat. He really shouldn’t have been there, but she had slipped him the time and location, as she was going to make sure that no one suspected what was going on.
He watched as they lowered the coffin into the ground, sighing.
“Any word on how my sister is doing?” Darcy was still in her coma.
“Well, it doesn’t look bad on you, but…it really changes your appearance,” Amelia commented, looking over at him. To be honest, had she not known it was him or heard him speak, she wouldn’t have known at first glance it was Ben, which of course was what he was going for. “I mean, not in a bad way,” she added, realizing how it sounded. “It looks nice.”
She wished she could give him more of an update on Darcy. The doctors still seemed positive though, which Amelia was going to take as a good sign. It was…sadly just out of their hands.
“Well, that was the idea, right?” He smiled softly. He was lucky to have a partner like her. Ben placed the hat back on his head, looking back to the funeral. “Actually more people than I would have guessed showed up.”
“What? Did you think it’d just be me?” Amelia half-joked, chuckling quietly under her breath, but she clearly was watching him carefully to see if he was truly surprised or thought that lowly of himself.
"Let's just say it wouldn't have surprised me if it was." Everyone that he thought would have come were either dead, in the know, or comatose. "Never was that great at keeping friends."

Amelia took in a deep breath. “Okay, maybe not kill, but God, I wanted to hit him…maybe break his nose,” she confessed to Ben quietly.
“I’ll cover for you if you do.” Truth be told, the guy was annoying him too. Their partnership was strong, they didn’t need some bureaucrat assessing them, and he especially didn’t have to be such a total ass about it.
A silent chuckle came from her as she smiled gratefully. She lightly nudged him in the side. “Thanks, Lewis,” she replied, then sighed heavily. “Any idea how long before he’s gone?”
“Not a clue. I asked him about it, and he said “until he feels our partnership meets certain parameters.” It’s ridiculous.” Ben rolled his eyes.
"What have they done to you?"
Ben was shirtless, bruised everywhere. He had no idea how long he had been down here, but his wrists were raw where the chains holding his arms above his head, and he ached everywhere.
He didn’t recognize this woman who came to see him and shied away as much as he could, given his restraints.
“Who are you?”
“I don’t believe that really matters at the moment, do you think?” She asked, ignoring his question as she went to work on the chains that bound him at such an awkward angle.
“No time to look a gift horse in the mouth…”
Ben nodded, letting out a soft noise as his hand were freed, an extra ache in them as he pulled them down. It had been so long. He wasn’t complaining about being freed, but there was a possibility that this woman was just going to take him somewhere worse. “What do you want?”

He sighed as well. He hadn’t really thought that Darcy would be better yet, but he had hoped. He chuckled humorlessly as he lifted the hat and ran his fingers through the dark hair.
“Guess being brunet suits me.”

Late Night Haunts
“Pretty shitty,” he agreed. “You would be the highlight.” The idea sounded amazing, honestly. He was wet, tired, stressed, the adrenaline of the night and the fight and the near crash all starting to wear off at once. He rubbed his face, letting out a small, exhausted laugh. “God damn.”
“You are in bad shape if I’m the highlight,” Eliot quipped, thinking that humor would keep Bennet aloft long enough to get him home.
It took some doing, and some coaxing on Eliot’s part to figure out where they were going, but eventually he marched Bennet up to his door, under the cover of a small awning (not that shelter would make a difference now).
“Please tell me you have your key,” Eliot said. He shoved his hands into his pockets and shifted from foot to foot.
Ben nodded, pulling his key out and opening the door. He turned around to Eliot, leaning against the doorframe.
“I can manage getting to bed from here, with the tea and everything, if you want to go. I honestly wouldn’t blame you. But... you can come in if you want.”
He glanced up at him with a shy smile.
