We’re mad there are trans actors who can’t get roles because they’re trans and a cis woman is stealing a role that would probably be best played by a trans man.

This isn’t equivalent to someone playing a police officer.

This is the trans equivalent of someone doing blackface because they couldn’t be bothered with casting a black actor.

The main thing mbav disappointed me on is that they never really developed the characters. The most character depth we got was Sarah not wanting to be a full vamp, and even that was erased by season 2. I wish they had really put effort into making the characters real people.

I wish they had shown us more of Sarah and Erica’s friendship. We only saw them truly interacting at school and occasionally outside of it. And, yeah, that’s where the majority of the show takes place, but we saw tons of scenes where Ethan and Benny played video games or watched movies or just hung out in Ethan’s room. We saw Sarah and Ethan together outside of school more than we saw Sarah and Erica. Erica was a nerd once. And, although we don’t see it, I’m willing to bet Sarah was too. I’m sure there were plenty of nights where they just hung out and watched Dusk or just talked and be friends. Why couldn’t that be included?

I also wish they had delved past the characters at face value.

They present Rory as this awkward nerdy idiot who thinks he’s a ladies man, but people aren’t 2D. I speak from experience when I say that it hurts like hell when your only two friends are closer to each other and don’t really want to hang out with you. Sure, the show makes it seem like Rory doesn’t know, but Ethan and Benny don’t really try to hide the fact that they don’t really love hanging out with him. The only reason he became involved in the story again after he got turned is because they needed someone to snoop through Jessie’s library- not because they cared about him or were worried. And after he’s bitten, he finally thinks he belongs somewhere. And then it turns out Jessie’s evil. Erica and him are sort of friends after that, but she’s still closer to Sarah and kinda just keeps him around to manipulate him, from what we’ve seen. I’m willing to bet Rory isn’t as happy go lucky and carefree as the show presents.

Benny is another character that they don’t give much depth, despite being a very major character. He doesn’t really have any background, despite being the only character that actually needs one. He lives with his grandma, there is no mention of his parents ever - what happened? Are they dead? Did they leave him with his grandma? Either scenario would have some pretty lasting effects on Benny, but the show never even mentions it.

Ethan and Sarah are the most developed characters, which is kinda sad when you think about it. Not because it’s those two, but because they still don’t have real depth. Ethan had development hinted at with his reaction to the necromancer and his growing power, but that was in the last episode. And, as I said, the most development for Sarah was erased by season 2.

Tl;dr mbav didn’t develop the characters correctly and it bothers me because I love all the characters SO MUCH
