Poe enthusiastically befriends and embraces Finn within 5 minutes of him leaving The First Order, when for all he knows Finn has been slaughtering people as a stormtrooper for the past 5 years, and yet people think it's unrealistic for Star Wars characters to accept that Ben Solo came back to the light and not call for his execution?

It's a kids space franchise and was written to be a modern myth about good and evil, you're pushing Space Geneva Conventions onto a story where they don't belong.

There's no narrative weight put on the nameless people Ben killed, his only sin the audience is really supposed to care about is killing Han and that was resolved over three movies.

Ben didn't need to die for the story to work, he died because the writers couldn't be bothered to write something original or give their characters proper arcs and endings.

You also have examples like Iden and Del from Battlefront (which is a solidly current-continuity new-EU game) who were members of the Empire's Inferno Squad, an elite TIE fighting unit whose whole job was to kill rebels, which you play as them doing (yes you literally kill scores of rebels in game) for quite some time.

When Iden and Del realize that what they're doing is wrong, they seek out the Rebellion, fully expecting being imprisoned. And instead Lando welcomes them and sends them back out to fight for the Rebellion no questions asked because he believes in the power of people to change. And then at the end of the story, Iden meets Leia, expecting Leia to hate her for having killed so many Rebels, and they have this dialogue:

People acting like the Rebellion doesn't welcome people who turn back to the Light as the very pinnacle of their ideals of hope are fake AF, not only in their ethos towards SW but in their basic knowledge of lore. The Rebellion would have taken Ben's return as the biggest fuck you to the First Order possible and celebrated Leia's son coming home.
