Who's abilities do you think are the most dangerous?
Anyone who still has no control over their powers.
Do you think most of the group trusts you?
I think so. I haven’t really done anything to make them…not trust me.
Do you still think the group should prepare themselves for a battle?
Absolutely. It’s pretty clear this demon wants a fight. We should be ready for it.
Do you plan to use your powers for anything else beside chilling the water bottles?
I’d like to. Thanks to the fog, it’s not hot like I thought it would be. I’ll have to see what there is I can do.
There we go.
[Elise nods at the thought of Evie. She was a sweet girl and it was a horrible thing for her to have to be so young in such a terrible, dangerous world. She smiles at him.] I think they’d probably appreciate it. [At his apology, Elise waves a hand and shrugs.] It’s alright, I mean, I don’t know about other countries but I’m assuming if America is in this state, all others are as well. Including Europe. [She tilts her head at him.] You don’t have to answer but did you have family? When all of this happened? [She doesn’t know if it’s too forward but she imagines that most people were with their family and lost them along the way or had tried to find them only to be disappointed. Elise picks up her water again, taking another sip.] Thank you, again, for the ice. It’s a good idea.
I'm pretty sure the entire world is like this, unfortunately. [His head hangs low at he question, eyes darting back and forth. The only person he told his family about was Anais, and now she is gone. He woke up one morning and there was no trace of her whatsoever. It is what it is, he guesses.] I did. A son and a wife. They were murdered twenty-six days before the world ended. [He holds his head up high now, knowing his son wouldn't want him to start feeling down on himself again, not now since he put his past behind him.] You're welcome. If you ever need anything put on ice, don't hesitate to ask me.
There we go.
[Elise smiles and nods with a slight shrug.] That’s probably not the worst idea. I’m sure it would be a good distraction, for the younger ones that is. [She doesn’t pretend to be completely content with this life but she knows that younger members of their group are probably struggling a bit more with the fact that their entire lives have been taken from them. She sets down the water and sorts some of the other cleaning supplies as he speaks, listening intently until he mentions the White House. Elise stills at that and purses her lips before looking back up at Bentley.] Were there…people there? At the White House? [She shakes her head, clarifying.] I mean, that worked there, of course there were people…I just, [she shakes her head and sighs,] never mind. My father, he was a diplomat so, [she shrugs again.] Wishful thinking, right?
Evie would enjoy it, Jack too. Caden has responsibilities now, so it'll probably be a lot harder for him to go. I'll have to see what I can do. [If not for the kids, then he could probably work something out for the whole group. Put on a show or something, distract them all given everything that's happened.] I...don't know. [He says, head hanging low.] If there was anyone there, they would be the ones to ask. I wasn't with them when they first got there. Sorry.
There we go.
[Elise raises a brow at his slight laughter and tilts her head.] Is something amusing? [She shrugs at his question, taking another sip of water.] I wouldn’t know, regular sculpting takes quite some time but if you can create whatever you want with ice, I imagine it can’t be that difficult. But, again, not my specialty. [Elise pushing some hair aside and nods as he mentions being there for a few months.] Where are you from originally then? [If he hadn’t been with them from the start she assumes he found them along the way which could mean coming from anywhere in the region or beyond really.]
[He shakes his head, dismissing her first question all together.] I'll have to see what I can do about that, maybe get some of the younger ones, they'd probably. [If he could actually make something, that is. The most he's ever made is anything to help him fight and defend.] I'm from Hershey, Pennsylvania. Spent almost the entire year there until I decided I needed a change of scenery. I ran into some people, another group of theirs, staying at the White House and they directed me to Quantico, the marine base. I've been with them ever since.
There we go.
Uh… {Charlie pauses to think over the question. She couldn’t recall the last time she had seen an animal, minus the dog.} Not like a deer or anything, no. Except the dog. That’s about the only animal I’ve seen. Not saying they’re gone. Just saying I haven’t really seen ‘em. Who knows? Maybe, they’ll be like a shit ton of buffalo out west.
[That's right. There is a dog in the group that belongs to Bella. Bentley is truly shocked no one has brought up they eat the dog. That'll be the day he loses faith in the group, stooping so slow they decide to eat a dog belonging to someone in the group.] I wonder about turkeys. I'd kill to have some turkey.
There we go.
[Elise keeps it in her hand until it dissolves and then wipes her palms on her keeps, still smiling slightly.] You know, I can’t help but think that in another time, you would be very popular to hire for weddings. Ice sculptures and all of that. [Elise shrugs at his last comment and takes out a water bottle from the bucket, taking a small sip.] I suppose it really is les petites choses, right? The little things in life. And I wouldn’t know if you weren’t. I haven’t been here for very long. Have you?
[Bentley laughs to himself finding it funny if he were to freeze the water she wiped off. He isn't that mean, so he decides against it. Instead, he nods along with her theory about being in another time.] You know, I never really tried to make any kind of sculpture. I wonder how hard it'd be? [That's an experiment for another day. When she speaks another language, Bentley has know idea what she means, but he doesn't bother asking. It really doesn't matter. He focuses on her last question.] Since the end of April? I was with them when the second blackout happened. But it's what, July now? So three months.
There we go.
{Charlie caps the plastic bottle of water and inclines her head. It would be nice to put food on ice and to keep things that easily spoil good for a few more days. But that seems unlikely now. She shrugs her shoulders.} Ya never know. Could happen one day. Down the line. Waaaay down the line.
[There isn't a place around that has meat that hasn't been spoiled for over a year. The image of rotten meat is ten times worse then that of rotten flesh he sees everyday. But like Charlie says, you never know. They could stumble upon something that is such an amazing find, they wouldn't know what to do with themselves.] Maybe we could send people out to hunt. Are animals still a thing?
There we go.
[She shakes her head at his warning, a slight laugh escaping her mouth as she looks at the ice. It’s been ages since Elise last saw ice, she can’t even remember when and instead of taking a water bottle in hand, she picks up a cube, holding it in her hand. She glances up at him.] This is your ability then? Ice? [She doesn’t say it disparagingly, instead it’s approval. Ice, cold water, it was a luxury none of them had anymore, well, at least not until right now. Or maybe they had and she just didn’t know it. Regardless it was still great.] I don’t think I’ve ever been happy over ice.
You would be correct. [A smile works itself on his face when she picks up an ice cube, practically mesmerized by it, as he presses his lips to the bottle and taking another drink. He has ever only used his power to fight things, though he knows how useful it is outside of battle. Cold water goes to show it.] I don't think any of us have. I can't believe I'm just now doing this, really. You think I would of been doing it for months now.
There we go.
{Charlie nods, her lips curving into an impressed grin as she does so, eyes still upon the ice until she looks up at him in approval.} Fantastic. Well done. {She steps closer to him, smacking her hand against his arm before she bends down to snag a bottle of water for herself. Unscrewing the cap, she pours a bit of the cold liquid down her throat.} Holy shit. That’s amazing.
[Bentley nods. not wanting to get too boastful. He's glad he could contribute something to the group they'll like after sitting around most of the time like he use to. The proud smirk on his face is hard to hide.] Thanks. [The smack against his arm comes as a sudden surprise that at first he didn't know how to take it. He takes another drink from his bottle, satisfied with the turnout.] Too bad there isn't food we could keep on ice anymore.
There we go.
[Elise is helping organize some of the supplies when a man walks over with buckets filled with ice. She blinks for a moment, staring at them before glancing up at him, a slight smile on her lips as she nods at the buckets.] You made this? [It’s her first conclusions since she doesn’t know where else he would have gotten it from.]
[Bentley is sure there will be people who'll tell him he should of been doing this sooner. He would of liked to more than anything, but it's not like he had anything to hold it in up until late. He had that cooler once, but it fell in in the rift back at the museum. There's no getting that back.] I did. [He answers, unaware anyone else was near until she spoke.] Help yourself, but I warn you, they probably aren't that cold yet.
There we go.
Where’d you get this? {Charlie questions as she takes a few steps towards Bentley, eyes staring at the buckets he’s filled with ice and water. It could make her laugh. Ice is like a luxury. Like a miracle.}
[Bentley takes a drink from a bottle, happily enjoying the refreshment it brings quenching his thirst. Before he could guzzle it down, Charlie's questions makes him look down at the buckets then back to her.] Oh, uh, I made it. Ice is my power. I figured we all could do with something cold to drink.
There we go.
[Waverly had been keeping to herself after her last lapse in who she was, but decided to socialize again. She didn’t like being by herself for too long and preferred to keep busy As she walked over, Waverly saw Bentley and was unsure what he was doing] What are you doing?
[Bentley takes a water bottle out for himself, unscrews the cap, and takes a drink. Refreshing, but it'll be some time until it's cold enough to truly enjoy. His patrol partner, Waverly he believes, from the other day comes up to him looking a bit confused.] Making ice to put some of the water bottles in. I figure some of the others would like something cold to drink.
There we go.
[Bentley walks in from outside and places two buckets down in front of the supplies, full of ice and a few of their bottled water. It's beyond him why he is just now supplying the group with cold water, but he figures it's better late than never. Bentley managed to find a few buckets with the cleaning supplies, so along with his bucket and the Inn's, he now has three in his possession. Two bucket-fulls should be good for now.]
