“at first i thought you might be kidding but ––” but the job had taught her otherwise. taught her to doubt, to second guess, to never take anything at face value. everyone had secrets, everyone had something that they didn’t show the outside world if they could help it. “are you about to confess to something that you have been up to?” she asked, glancing over towards him. “actually, maybe i don’t want to know.”
working in this job, living his life, has more than proved to him the unfortunate truth behind that. whether it be something good, something bad, something villainous, or something altruistic, everyone has something up their sleeves that they aren’t disclosing. stiles releases a scoff, shaking his head in bemusement. ❝ you definitely don’t want to know. the things that i do in my free time? psh, ❞ he spins in the chair at his desk idly, kicking his legs out in front of him and crossing them at the ankles. ❝ you’d never sleep again. he’s not a liar, he wears his honesty like a badge of honor, only truth passing his lips. lexi has always doubted every word out of someone else’s mouth, trying to find their angle, the truth behind the lies. see, when you lie to a child enough times, when you never keep promises made, that child grows up into a distrustful animal, it cannot be helped. but she finds in the tilt of his lips, in the movement of his hands, in there she finds truth &. honesty. she relishes in the feeling, bathing in it. this trust she has in him only came after one conversation, a gut feeling telling her to trust him implicitly and she had not regretted it yet. smile is offered to him, head slightly tilting as she steps slightly closer, the noice drowning his voice when it’s the only thing she wants to hear. words upon words of reassurance, confidence bubbling in her chest, expanding like butterflies wings against her heart. ❛ then i’ll stay if you don’t mind. ❜ there are thousands of words she wishes to say, fingers itching to reach for his, to draw the lines of his palm, to hear every story he has. ❛ i’ve been meaning to see you again to be honest. ❜ she tries to be brave, to let him know that she thinks of him, not only when he makes her screen light up but also between those moments, teeth digging into her cheek to try and keep her smile from turning into a full blown grin. ❛ would you like to walk around or do you want to stay here ? ❜ she doesn’t mind anyway and turns to rest her hip against the stand next to him, her body fully turned toward him. she thinks, she thinks, she thinks she could never regret a thing as long as it brings her fezco.
there’s a COMFORT that lexi brings him that never fails to wash over his entire body and calm the never ending vibrations in his bones. it’s a ridiculous thought considering that they had only been face to face a handful of times, but each of those times left him wanting for more. he’s always after more, which is especially selfish considering the circumstances at play. ( he likes to think he deserves the chance to be selfish. but the risk is higher than the reward with lexi howard, the possibility of bringing her down with him is high. it’s a game of pros and cons, WINS AND LOSSES, and he’s never been any good at those. ) he can’t help the broad smile that progressively appears, growing wider and brighter as the realization sets that he’s got lexi as company for the night ― that she’s been wanting to see him. ❝ should’ve come around sooner, shorty. i’ve been looking forward to it. ❞ they’re speaking more often than not through the screen of his cell phone, but he knows better than to wrap himself up in the idea of it being anymore than that. HE’S FOUND SECURITY IN FALSE HOPE BEFORE, only to end up being left to the elements when reality hit. regardless, he yearns to return the bravery with his own candor, his cheeks growing warm in response to her smile. he knows damn well that he’ll get shit from ash later, but the potential consequences dissipate into unavoidable stipulations that he would conquer later. ❝ yeah, let’s walk around. cotton candy and whatever else you want on me, ❞ he says with a firm finality, shooting ash a look and giving a casual goodbye before walking down the stairs of the truck to join lexi. ❝ you take the lead. ❞
