Julia and Andrew of Makerhappener led a workshop on play, using blindfolds to heighten each person’s sense of smell, taste, and sound. Someone said “We all identify as creative people, but we rarely play.” It’s true, we need to risk making fools of ourselves. Let’s be ridiculous together! As Sharon Hayes said earlier this year, “let’s get embarrassed!”

Why didn't I think of that?
When it comes to learning and design, the first hurdle is simply looking around and asking yourself, "how could this be better?"
For instance, someone applied the design process to a traditional watering can and came up with this:
This idea comes from the Cooper Hewitt Museum.
"Replace fear of the unknown with curiosity." Amen.

Diana Laufenberg, a friend and teacher at Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia, PA, gave a great TED Talk that speaks directly to what learning is and what it is not.
Specifically, Diana mentions that schools should not be repositories of information but rather opportunities for students to have the following:
Fantastic video from David Kelley, the founder of IDEO, re: "the child's mind" (vs. the limitations of those with age and experience) and a step-by-step process of creativity called 'design thinking'.
Is there beauty and grace in something thrown away? And should failure be embraced?
To me, the image is visually beautiful. And conceptually for me it represents the idea of play, exploration, experimentation, and of process, especially since that is how the image came to be in the first place.
Rather love what one of our Be Playful / Prototype Design Camp co-developers wrote in one of his September, 2010 blog entries.
