boom mob psycho AU except Francois is actually a psychic, runs a legitimate business, and has actual things they teach Suika relating to controlling her psychic powers. I heavily referenced Reigen and Tome’s references for these so I hope it actually does look like the style.

I love how prevalent rare pairs are in this fandom, and I do like a lot of them. But honestly I have mixed feelings on this one. It’s for that reason that I’d like to ask, and if you’re comfortable answering, what makes you like this ship? If it’s not anything deep, that’s okay. I just like reading into everything too much, which brings me to a rant ->

If you’re a Hyoga fan, you might not wanna read what I have to say about this guy 😅 Im sorry!!!!!

I have no idea how he’s so popular. This man is, or at least was a eugenicist. Which Tsukasa was too, but the way he upheld eugenics was more so a misguided response to the oppression people of the lower class face. He then goes through an arc that leads to him realizing why it’s wrong. Hyoga just reads as a supervillain to me, and is basically a prisoner for a good chunk of the series because of his refusal to change 😭 He doesn’t have some moral justification, rather a fundamental belief that the strong should be the only to survive. And while he does eventually ally with the KOS, the canon typical way of brushing off previous antagonist’s wrongdoings doesn’t really sit right with me regarding the weight of a topic like eugenics, and that is one of my problems with the series as a whole, not just Hyoga.

Now, I do appreciate his willingness to possibly die (which did happen lolllll) in battle with Kohaku and Tsukasa. But that’s really one of the only scenes we get that shows a direct change in him. The narrative only uses him for his value as a strong fighter.

Now, if you see potential in him and his arc, please tell me your thoughts. However, due to how he exists in canon, I personally do not have any desire to explore those possibilities. Which is why I posed the question of why this ship is appealing, I’m just very curious!

I personally can’t see it working due to the fundamental difference in their beliefs: Hyoga’s “survival of the fittest” mentality, and Francois’ (and by extension Ryusui’s) “everyone has some type of value to the world” mentality.

And also, if this seems biased, you’re probably right. The way Hyoga was framed throughout the early arcs did not make me like or interested in him as a character. So if there’s any weak points in my analysis, that’s once again an invitation to respond 🫡

Finally finished a brief comic of what it was generally like when the first mutations (Xeno and Stanley) occurred with the American team.

It was a very hard, painful week. A week where no one was listening.
