The bells of the clock tower echoed through the whole village as it struck midnight. Jin heard it with eyes wide open as he stared at the ceiling above him.
He laid on his back trying to sleep while his lover was already asleep beside him. He had so many things running in his mind but only one stood out the most, it was to keep Amber safe at all cost. He loves his girlfriend so much that he would take a bullet for her despite being tougher than him.
Confused and afraid was he and that is because for the past few days, shocking events unfolded as his friends were killed one by one. He felt like he was riding a roller coaster that went too high only drop down to a never ending rabbit hole of darkness.
And it all started when he joined the fraternity, BTS. Now, he’s regretting for ignoring his girlfriend’s warning before joining the brotherhood. She said ‘it was dangerous’ and she was right.
He looked at his girlfriend beside him. He hugged her tightly, hoping that it would last forever. Inhaling her scent as long as he could to remember her sweet strawberry smell.
Then there he collapsed. He cried silently, careful not to wake her up, but to his dismay, she fluttered her eyes open. “Jin? What’s wrong?” She asked as she tried to release herself from his tight grip. He shook as he sniffed. “Nothing.” He said and continued to sniff. “Nothing important that is…”
Amber looked up to his fragile state and her eyes softened almost instantly at his weak image. Her hand went up to caress his face and wiped his tears away. “Sshhh.. Don’t worry, they’re in a better place now right? And you’re with me. I won’t let them hurt you.” She tried comforting him. She knew about his brothers being killed and she was afraid that her boyfriend might be the next target. Slowly she slipped some tears herself.
Jin opened his eyes and stared at her girlfriend’s brown amber ones. They talked with their eyes like they knew what was happening inside their heads. Silenced lingered around them and their lips locked. They moved with rhythm, both moving in sync with one another.
Tonight it was just the two of them. Tonight they ignored all of their surroundings. And they wished that this moment could last forever.

Amber woke up to the scent of freshly cooked eggs and bacon. She picked up the nearest clothing she could reach—which was jin’s plain white shirt—and draped it over her as she walked towards the delicious aroma. Because jin has wide shoulders, his shirt was big on her. It hid her curves but it emphasized her petite self.
She peeked from the door to see him—back facing her—wearing boxers and a pink apron while cooking with pan on one hand and spatula on the other. She giggled at the sight as she remember their first encounter in the middle of winter on one cold afternoon.
•flashback•
She warmed herself with a cup of warm coffee that she bought at the cafe. She checked her wrist watch for the time, trying to not be late for her duty–again.
Being a police was tiring, and she knew it, right from the start. That’s why she loved it ever since she was a kid. She remembered how she would always dress her stuffed teddy in a police costume and fight “crimes” with it by her side. She smiled as she felt a bit nostalgic. ‘Good old days. Back when everything was perfect.’ She thought.
Amber heaved a heavy sigh before standing up to leave and attend work. She stopped when she was already outside the cafe. She breathe out to see the steam from her mouth, it has always entertained her.
When she was walking the street, she kept her focus on the ground—where the snow was, she kicked it and played around with some of it while walking. There’s no denying it, winter is her favorite season. Despite having red as her favorite color, white has always calmed her down and soothed her stressed mind.

“Oh My God! I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to! I’m really sorry for not looking where I was walking!” Amber groaned as she tried to stand up, and the person who bumped her helped while spitting out words continuously. She looked at him and paused, she fell in a trance.
She quickly shook her head and waved her hands for him to stop. “It’s okay. I’m not injured and the coffee didn’t spilled on me so it’s okay.” She told him with a reassuring smile. His eyes shined making his light brown eyes even lighter—if that made sense.
“A-are you sure? I can make it up to you! Maybe buy you a new coffee?“ She chuckled at him for being so nervous. Surely he doesn’t know that she’s an officer under the multiple thick jackets that she was wearing. She checked her wrist watch for the time and she only had 3 minutes left until she was late.
Her eyes widened at the time. “Yeah sure why not? But not now, I have somewhere to be.” She quickly dismissed him and jogged towards the station. “When?” He shouted at her.
“Tomorrow! Same time! See you!” She shouted right back as she ran to save herself from being late again. She smiled at the thought of him—the cute boy in pink sweater with light brown eyes.
That’s when she knew, her life was about to change.
•end of flashback•
“Good morning little llama.” He smiled as he walked towards her—still wearing the pink apron. “How long were you standing there?” He asked as he wrapped his arms around her waist while she wrapped her arms around his neck. “Long enough to see your wide shoulders in action.” She smiled cheekily and tiptoed to peck his lips.
“Aigoo still the same cheeky amber that I met before, you even flirted with me as soon as I bought you coffee.” She was blushing and he knew it. She hid her face on his chest and he chuckled at how shy his girlfriend could be. “Y-yah… I did not flirt… I’m just friendly! I do that with all of my friends!”
He smirked and lowered his head to her ear. She felt his hot breath and she honestly liked it. “Well did you stare at your friend’s butt while they were at the cashier?” He whispered huskily and it turned her on. She groaned inwardly and cursed at him mentally for making her stomach feel butterflies.
Now it wasn’t just her cheeks burning but also her ears. “You have a cute butt okay?” She confessed and pressed herself more onto his chest—an attempt to hide herself more. She doesn’t even know how he knew and she didn’t cared how either.
He ruffled her short black hair. “This is why I love you.” He muttered silently only for her to listen.
“Yah!” He flinched as she pinched his butt and ran away towards the dining table. He walked towards the table to find her already sitting at her spot with a mischievous smile. “So what’s for breakfast?” She asked happily like a kid.
He sat in front of her. “The typical american breakfast because I know how much you have missed american meals.” Amber looked at the meal right in front of her. Two plates with two eggs for eyes and two bacon strips for mouth, a plate full of toasts on the middle with butter knife and strawberry jam beside it. For beverages, there was a pitcher full of orange juice that she loved.
She clasped both of her hands together and smiled widely, she missed this, she truly missed this. It’s been years since she left LA, the city of lost angels, and it was a city of lost angels indeed.
She stood up to peck jin from across the table and sat back down again. “Thank you thank you thank you so much! You know me too well.” Jin smiled at her girlfriend that was spreading jams on the toast and eating it almost immediately. He stared at her as she continued to eat deliciously, trying to memorize the whole moment.
This morning he received news that the last brother that he had, Min Yoongi, was killed this dawn, and now he’s the last one in their brotherhood alive. He bit his tongue to fight back the tears from his eyes. Amber looked at him. “Hey… Why won’t you eat?” She asked.
“Uhhh ah nothing! I was just amazed at how you muched on three toast that fast.” He lied. “Tch. Says the man who eats a burrito with one bite! Now eat.” She ordered and continued to eat as he chuckled and nodded while picking up the fork to eat the egg first.
Her gaze was on the smiley face that was on her plate and her eyes flinched—tears slowly building up. She knew it, all this time.
He was next.
-
Jin woke up with duct tape on his mouth, a bag over his head and hands tied behind his back as he was laying on a seat he guessed was at the back of the car. There was no doubt that they were moving. ‘but to where?’ He asked himself.
He was on his way home from work when he was abducted in the parking lot by three slender figures with mask. His guess was that they were girls and that they were strong because he couldn’t budge a muscle when they were holding him back and covering his mouth with a handkerchief full of something he doesn’t know that made him faint once he inhaled some of it.
‘This is it.’ He thought. 'This is how I’m gonna die.’ He felt the door open and he was dragged out to walk towards an unfamiliar place he doesn’t know. He walked downstairs and they sat him on a bed full of white lilies then took of the bag from his head.
There he looked around and saw a figure standing in front of him. It was not the ones he saw before because this one didn’t showed it’s figure with a red cape draping over the body and red mask to cover the whole head and face. The hand of the figure in front of him went up to his mouth, removing the duct tape for him to speak.
“Why are you doing this?” He asked almost immediately when the duct tape was ripped out from his mouth. He was very confused as to why their brotherhood was targeted. Then slowly he started realizing like solving a puzzle.
All of them came from a wealthy family. All of them were heirs to their own rich company. All of them were invited to join the brotherhood. All of them were targeted from the start. 'It was all a plan.’ He thought and he looked up to the figure in front of him with eyes wide open as he figured out everything. He solved the puzzle.
“So I guess you know by now?” The figure in front of him talked with a deep automated voice that hid it’s real voice. A tear slipped his eye thinking about the people he would leave behind—not having the chance to say goodbye one last time.
The figure pulled out a gun and directed it to his head. “Close your eyes.” Jin followed the order and closed his eyes with tears still streaming down. The figure pulled the gun down and removed her mask, revealing her identity. Because of the rustling noise and long silent pause, jin curiously opened his eyes to see someone unexpected and he cried even more.
The red haired girl was standing in front of him with eyes full of sympathy and tears threatening to fall down. “Why…” Jin whispered and sobbed quietly as he looked at the girl he loves.
“You should’ve kept your eyes closed.” She whispered as she wiped the tears away from his cheeks and kissed him gently one last time. He kissed back despite being betrayed. She pulled away even though she didn’t want it to stop. She stood tall to cock the gun and pointed it towards jin’s head.
Jin shut his eyes for a second to open it again and saw the girl that he’d take a bullet for was behind the trigger. More tears streamed down from his eyes and he heaved a heavy sigh. He was ready to died in her arms. “I love you.” He whispered.
She trembled as she pointed the gun to him. “I’m sorry…” She whispered back and closed her eyes as she can not bear to look at him. Tears slipped down to her cheek, then she pulled the trigger.
-BANG-
“…I love you too.” She continued.
She opened her eyes to see jin laying lifelessly on the hard white bed full of white lilies. “Nice going amber! By the way, love your new hairstyle!” Luna said as she leaned on the staircase. “Leave.” She ordered and the other girl shrugged and left the room.
Amber walked towards jin and closed his eyes that were still open. She sat and laid his body to lean on hers and hugged him tightly. “I told you… Never accept that invitation… I told you… It was dangerous… Why didn’t you listened to me?” She whispered to herself as she sobbed and rocked back and forth trying to wake up the lifeless body she was hugging.
-
“You did great amber.. He was the last right?” Victoria patted her back. Amber nodded silently while looking at the peaceful lifeless body laying on the bed with white lilies around him—it was jin’s favorite flower and she requested it. 'It’s like you’re just sleeping.’ Amber thought and smiled a little.
Victoria held the younger one on her shoulders so she could look at her. “Look amber, I know it’s hard… But this is our job okay?” Vic held her chin up to look at her. Amber nodded silently again at the words the older one said. “Okay, I’ll go first.” Vic then left and went upstairs.
Amber corrected vic in her head. This wasn’t their job, it was their life. Growing up as a killer and live their daily life hiding within a crowd by being someone else. She could never leave. It was them who accepted her the day she came to korea to run away from problems when she was a confused teenager. It was them who accepted her whole self and never judged. They became her family since then.
She was deeply sorry for jin for meeting him that day. She wished she had never met him. She thought that maybe if she stayed longer at the cafe then maybe they would never meet. Then maybe she won’t get hurt. Then maybe it would be easier for her to let go.
She never felt it in a long time, but she knew. She was a Lost Angel, yet again.
