Worst "Date" Ever || Finchel
Tagging: Finn Hudson & Rachel Berry
Time Frame: April
Location: Rachel’s apartment
Summary: After starting to confess his feelings to Rachel, Finn decides to talk to her in person to hopefully make a better impression.
Finn would be lying if he said the whole Disney World thing didn’t confuse him even more. He shook his head because he’d never been there, but that didn’t really change how the story was gonna go. By the end of it, he understood what she was saying, but it still didn’t really fit. He didn’t get how the two things matched up. So okay, she didn’t have a good time in the theme park, but this was something else. This was real life, and a very real relationship.
He was still so torn between trying to fight for her, and then respecting her rejection. He was stuck in the middle because he knew she wanted this but he also heard her very clearly say she couldn’t and he didn’t want to push. “I get it. If I didn’t live up to what you thought, we’d be ruined,” he said. He guesses he was just trying to show her that he got the message. What he didn’t say was that he’d try to be everything she dreamed of and more. He figured it wouldn’t be worth it to say.
He managed a small smile when he finally got the nerve to look at her. “You’re really special to me too,” he said, “One of the best friends I’ve ever had and I wanna keep that. This… me doing this isn’t gonna change that, right? I don’t wanna lose you completely.”
Rachel Berry
The brunette nodded and smiled a little, “Yeah, that’s what I meant… And because you mean so much to me, I can’t run that risk right now.” She looked down and sipped her coffee again. It was a decent distraction from everything that was happening. Rachel had no idea how she had managed to come to the point where she was saying no to Finn, but somehow she was. She knew that Finn was just coming around to the idea of a relationship with her, but it had been years for her. She knew that he was good – she had seen how he treated his girlfriends in the past – but she had a block in her mind that just told her it could blow up in her face if she wasn’t careful.
“You’ll never lose me, Finn… I don’t want to stop being your friend – I wouldn’t want that even if I had decided to date you,” she said, tailing off a little towards the end. Rachel looked across at Finn and took a few steady breaths in the silence that followed her words. “Finn, I’ve made some questionable decisions in the field of the no- existent ‘us’ and you’ve managed to remain my friend through it all. There’s no way I’d ever let this get in the way of that. It might be different for a while, but we’re going to be back to normal in no time,” she said, a little panic in her voice as she finished. She didn’t want it to change with Finn, but she had a hunch that it all would.
