I post richtok drama on tumblr so I can collect more rich people anecdotes on the notes from this website. Yes all for #mycollection
this dislodged the memory of this anecdote from my brain: (from Kickstarter update #32 of sad pictures for children)
When I was a young teen, my best friend from my “homeschool co-op” in Dallas, Texas started attending a wealthy private school and made friends with a boy whose family lived on the same block as players for the Dallas Cowboys. This was in the nineties when the Cowboys won a lot of superbowls. This family’s house was the largest I had seen and is still probably the largest house I have ever seen in person. I remember a movie theater, a garage with a full-size basketball court and a backyard with a forest in it. I was young so I’m sure it seemed larger than it was, but there were rooms with furniture you couldn’t sit on. That was one of the first hints I got that being rich is a joke.
In the kitchen there was a wire cage with a rat in it. There were several family pets, I think, but the house was big enough that this was the only one I ever got a good look at. The rat had a large tumor on its neck. The cage was maybe a cubic foot or two, with wood chips for bedding. It was in view of the windows to the backyard, but I’m not sure it got to leave the cage.
The people who lived in that house had enormous wealth, and they could have used that wealth to make the rat they lived with the happiest rat in the world. No cage, dirt and grass under its feet, mental and physical challenges, a balance between new and familiar environments, relationships with other rats. There are a million little ways rich people have found to spoil their pets. They could have paid attention to its needs and learned to shape their environment to improve the quality of its life. Instead they chose to watch this rat die in a cage every day at every meal.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you make your dolls' hair?
basically all of my dolls have their hair glued directly to the head. i've made one or two wigs, but i don't really like using them because a lot of my dolls have visible hairlines & hair that lies very flat. i avoid gluing anything on top of the head cap seam so the head can still be opened, but it tends to be a hassle with the way i make dolls.
for materials, i love unconventional stuff like paper, fake plants, or craft foam.
silk clay is a fun new discovery i've used a couple of times & will use again. in both of the above examples i rolled the clay into a thin sheet, cut into strips, and then curled them, but you could do so many other things also.
feathers are cool & versatile because you can embrace the clear feather look, or use the fluffy parts to make something more like fine hair. i've also made feathers out of felt when i've wanted the vibe but not to deal with the finickiness of actual feathers.
all aforementioned materials are just glued straight into the doll head without needing to make wefts of any kind. then there is proper hair-hair, which i don't like working with, but sometimes we Must.
the few times i've done ultra long, sleek hair, i've used old wigs from either my own or friends' cosplay stashes. i've also harvested doll hair. i usually make wig fiber into wefts using hot glue, and then glue them to the head in whatever pattern works for the hairstyle. i hate wig hair though. it's thick and hard to style in doll scale and too slippery to stay put. very situational.
i vastly prefer acrylic yarn. it can be sleek when straightened with a hair straightener, frizzy when left as it is, or curly when styled with a heated metal stick. if you want to curl acrylic hair on a small scale, i would recommend gluing it into small wefts, curling them, and then gluing the hair to the head.
there are a million tutorials about making acrylic wefts, and i recommend following NONE OF THEM. i Do Not Get why the common method is to cut the hair to the length you want and then forcefully tear it open with a brush. you lose most of the hair that way.
instead, buy your yarn as thick and loosely spun as you can. i personally use this one with only two strands. cut it into 50cm - 1m pieces. while keeping the yarn under tension, unravel the strands from each other. then you can just pull the fibers apart gently, and get the maximum length of hair [usually a little over 10cm] out of it without wasting material. if you cut the yarn into short tufts and brush it open, you will get shorter fibers and also a lot of them will come loose and be an unusable ball of fluff.
after unraveling the yarn, i glue it into wefts with white glue on top of a plastic cutting board it's easy to pry of off when dry.
my favorite thing about acrylic yarn is that it can be posed with the doll, and can easily hold gravity-defying positions. also really the only type of hair that it's easy to do short styles in.
you can also do fun things like soak it in glue for a wet look.
sometimes i also use fur fabric. it's super dense & thick for hair, but can work well situationally. the little fur ponytail on the troll above is one of my favorite hairstyles i've made.
it pains me to say it but the more people talk shit about the women who wear those shorts/leggings with the weird butt seam that looks like it gives you a terminal wedgie, the more compelled I feel to take the women’s side
ohhhhhh my godddddddd you saw someone wearing really tight revealing pants in public? should we throw a party? should we invite goody proctor
and while we’re at it, I’m done worrying about cameltoe. I don’t have time to be pulling and tugging at my clothes all day. if you can see the outline of my pussy you should say thank you and go about your business
SAME WITH NIPPLES!!!!
another idea for how reviews should work: you're strapped to a chair with two IVs, and every bad review sends a little pump of that blue euthanasia juice for dogs into your left arm, and every good review sends a little pump of jones cream soda into your right arm

after i made my wooden doll, i was musing about what other unusual materials i might use for a bjd. my partner suggested paper, and also gave me access to their craft paper collection -> i made this.
she is almost entirely made of paper & cardboard. the joints are wooden beads & worbla, because i did figure out a way to make ball joints out of paper, but it really was not worth the effort. all her limbs have tubes of rolled-up cardboard in them to keep the structure sturdy, and the origami flowers are glued around those.
this is extremely different from any doll i've made before, and i had so much fun working with pretty papers & figuring out how to turn them into a poseable 3d object.
why did i get the eating disorder hotline for deedee megadoodoo

Just Us Two 2022
i've neglected to comment on recent discussions regarding pedophilia, incest, and related kinks for a variety of reasons, but it is a topic I can not in good conscience scroll by and say nothing forever.
i've outlined in a past post my opinion on the concept of pedophilia (thanks to tumblr's useless search function I can't find the post) but regardless, I subscribe to the model of human sexuality that goes as follows: it is so obviously socially constructed and conditioned there is really no point in arguing it is innate, and innate/'biological' arguments feed directly into reactionary sentiment surrounding sexuality. probably preaching to the choir here but felt the need to clarify regardless.
patriarchal societies (and resulting "family units") have widespread issues with child sexual abuse and sexuality. it has been stated before that incestuous abuse is an inevitable result of patriarchal family structure--especially with the role of the father. at the same time, there exists this persistent sexual shame and repression that--especially when coupled with entitlement--is a breeding ground for depravity. these things seem contradictory on the surface: everyone knows of the nefarious pedophile, but victims of sexual abuse (especially children) (especially if the perpetrator is a family member) are so often failed by law enforcement and peers alike when they try to do everything 'correctly'. everyone insists they hate pedophiles and rapists but the second that shadowy cartoon villain image is shattered by reality, they refuse to accept it. the reality is simple: perpetrators of such crimes are more likely to be someone you know, someone you trust, even someone you love. there are also common misconceptions about csa that I do hold the "innate" model of pedophilia accountable for: not enough people are aware that an adult can sexually abuse both children and adults, and be "attracted" to both. while some offenders may have a preferred age, they are still opportunists, and not all are wealthy or respected enough to have preferences in victims like those in the epstein files. I put "attracted" in quotes earlier because the way people who commit sex crimes are approached in most related research is frankly stupid as hell and it's very hard to take any of it seriously. or "interviews with pedophiles". to me this is about as useful and insightful as true crime content. oh well, it'll still be taken far more seriously by society at large than anything i'm saying here will, because terms like "feminism" and "social construct" are scary buzzwords to many.
now this is where I may upset people. a lot of discourse surrounding incest and pedophilia is extremely online. like i'm going to be so completely honest, I do not give a fuck if someone watches an anime with incest in it, or engages in some sort of sexual roleplay with another adult. do I think lolicon and shotacon are particularly helpful additions to society? no. but these did not appear out of nowhere as some sort of conspiracy to make people abuse children. rather, they feed into already existing power structures. cart before the horse type of situation. anime in particular gets a lot of flack for its themes but the men making whatever media you find acceptable will form secret societies, blackmail each other, and even travel internationally for the opportunity to rape children so perhaps the reality is capitalism and patriarchy reward this behavior universally.
the current attitude towards victims of csa/incest is hostile and far removed from reality and my recommendation is reading about how average people and the legal system actually react to these cases in real life. about how there are entire organizations whose purpose is defending child abusers. it's ironic, isn't it? how the fuck do you get to such a point, where "pedophile" is such a horrible thing to be, but the money and legal power sure seems to paint a very different picture? this is again where I mention the 'very online' phenomenon. a lot of outrage you see online is performative. I feel like as social media use becomes more common, this will be more and more of an issue. we have a unique ability today to hear from and communicate with more people than ever before. with that comes consequences if you do take internet algorithms driven by engagement as accurate portrayals of wider communities offline. remember outrage drives engagement. you are more likely to see something online that pisses you off. maybe it'll even be this post today.
father-daughter incest is the most commonly reported. this is only as "natural" as the concept of the nuclear family.
by the way I chose to post this not because I aim to argue with any particular user. I was just genuinely furious over some of the things i've read. I can look away one or two times, i've been on the internet long enough, but it's been like, a month. my biological father is a serial sex offender, okay? i've known these contradictions in society a long time. coincidentally, i've never wanted to live
everyone wants to stab a pedophile in the guts or ban media that makes them upset because it’s easy. it’s easy to do. and frankly society is mostly made of stupid people who see the world in simple terms. to them, this is the solution, and the fact that it feels really really good on their justice boner isn’t a warning that maybe these actions serve them personally more than they do anything for victims, it’s clearly a sign they’re doing things right.
no one wants to reform society so that men see women and children as people. well not “no one” but it’s a lot of fucking work, it’s not satisfying, it threatens people benefitting from the current status quo, it’s complicated, and it asks for people to change themselves, not simply lash out at others. so far we don’t seem to have the capacity.
capitalism is still a blip on the human timescale. there is a chance that we get better. but if we don’t, i hope a fucking asteroid kills us all and soon.
