Kuro smiles at the attempt to try to say it again, giving a reassuring nod at Yumihiko. āIt was good that he tried, at least.ā He thinks to himself appreciating the effort the teen gave on their behalf. That was at least something.
Then, things fell into motion fast as he saw something⦠else about the prosecutor who sat in front of him. He looked⦠so small ( well, height difference aside of course ), sitting in front of him. Yumihiko looks stunned at the idea of being asked, āWhat he liked to do.ā It felt strange to the young man it seems.
The red haired man doesnāt have all the answer to everything. Sometimes, he wished he could, like right now. But he only knows what is happening outwardly and he knows nothing of what happening inside. So he quiet nodding in understanding, even if in the inside he wants to reason with the boy that there were more to him. Yet, he shouldnāt.
He might be stepping on topics that Yumihiko wouldnāt like and ⦠well he doesnāt really know the young man that well enough anyway to say anything out of bounds. ( A little voice spoke to him suddenly, itās not like he knows about you either. ) He ignores it in favor to speak. āThatās kind of like you, Ichiyanagi.ā It is and itās painful, as well.
āThank you. It means a lot to me.ā More or less, he just doesnāt want to become embarrassed and make a huge mess over again, like last time.
Itās not like he knew Kuro indeed -- both had secrets, even small, that they didnāt want to speak on a normal occasion. Unlike Kuro however, Yumihiko hasnāt picked up on Kuro being too out of the ordinary....
Aside from his insistence to not talk to Laurent about him. Now that was odd! But he agreed to keep quiet, and quiet he will be!
āItās...kind of like me..?ā The phrase isnāt odd per say, but Yumihikoās mind had been, well, elsewhere, and it takes a moment for him to catch up with the conversation. ā...oh! The...yeah, itās me alright! Thatās how I am!ā He worriedly fills his voice with optimism, hiding the uncertainty as best as he can.
āWhat do you like to do?ā He follows up, hoping to branch the conversation into a lighter topic. Aside from teaching, he was curious what Kuro did!

The mage still feels as if heās shivering on the inside, though outwardly it has stopped - his red eyes look at his friend in evident worry and guilt that this ended up a disappointment (that he ended up being a disappointment): yet he finds none.
Instead, his friend gently rests a hand on one of his gloved own.
Reassuring, he muses they should stay here with a surprising amount of firmness - Laurent assumes he doesnāt want him, the mage, to go back to those painful visage again and that was why he was firm.Ā
Heās supposed to be the adult, be the strong one: but every time heās reminded of those terrible memories, which he already has nightmares of - he feels so small. Yet he is not in the desert, having nobody to turn to with his problems.
Yumihiko assures if he needed to talk, a listening ear would be given. Laurentā¦is grateful for it, truly. He canāt tell the whole story - it is simply too upsetting to - butā¦telling a little should calm him down.
āIā¦The world I come from - at a time, it was in great danger because of dark magics similar as those. I shanāt tell the whole story, itās too upsetting: but part of it resulted in me being separatedĀ from any friends or family for five years. I suppose Ā seeing it reminded me of those bad timesā¦how I donāt want something like that to happen again. I donāt want to be alone again.ā
Having admitted that, he felt lighter - but at the same time, was a little scared it would sound childish to his friend.
Not a word escapes from the latterās mouth when Laurent tells him the tale.
Heās mindful not to make any sudden outbursts, or at least, heās making a darn good effort of keeping all his thoughts bottled in. The way he glances briefly down at his hand, then to Laurent, shows that he desperately wants to speak -- but out of courtesy, he holds on.
...and then he hears the final phrase; I donāt want to be alone again.
The grip on Laurentās hand tightens. Yumihikoās words, as eager as they were to escape, had settled in the back of his throat. Five years. He told him that he had to endure loneliness for five long years...
He canāt say heās had the same experience -- far from it -- but thereās an understanding in those fears. No one wants to be alone, especially from those they hold dearly...
ā....ā He holds a brave face, but he canāt stop the tears that follow. Itās impossible not to, oh, oh its so hard not to. When he finally tries to speak, it comes out soft at first, but his words push though, getting his point across with one sentence;
ā....I....weāre going to make sure that doesnāt happen again.ā He keeps his hand locked with the latter, sure on his words.
spiriteddefense:
Ā āāRecognizing that this kid didnāt pose a direct threat to her ice cream (yetāshe had her eye on him), she immediately moved to help him up off the floor. Thank goodness he seemed to be a pretty laid back guy, because she didnāt think even Nick would want to take on her case if he pressed charges or something. She was totally guilty, after all.
āā Scooping up her own basket (which was empty, since sheād gone straight for the ice cream the moment she came in), she beamed at him.
āāĀ āLooks like itās your lucky day!ā she declared.Ā āI happen to be an expert in all things dessert!ā
āā Although she had a clearly-established reputation in the burgers department, Maya excelled in eating and knowing about all kinds of food, particularly sweets. She didnāt have many opportunities to put her knowledge into action unless she was convincing Nick to buy something for her, so this was a refreshing change of pace.Ā It was pretty nice to run into situations like this where something she never thought would count as aĀ ātalentā of hers actually made a difference! If it was gong to be like this all the time, maybe Stella City wasnāt such a bad place after all.
āā āIf you want some advice, Iād be happy to help, umā¦ā She trailed off, hoping there would be no hard feelings and he wouldnāt mind introducing himself.
An expert?! Yumihikoās eyes lit up at that -- who knows what sorts of hidden secrets this person before him knew about! Were they the type that knew all the codes for getting the off menu sweets that were only told in rumors? Or know the deals to get fifty cookies from the price one?or know where the largest pudding in the world was?
Question upon question raced in the boyās mind, each one seeking the answer that the boy lacked. It felt like his head was going to explode from all the unsolved mysteries-
ā.....?ā Whatever the person had said flew in one ear, and out the other. He blinks a few times, the gears in his head turning to see if maybe, maybe, he caught at least part of the sentence the latter had stated -- and when he does find it, his mouth makes an audible āoh!ā sound.
āA name?ā He repeats back, āItās Yumihiko.....are uhm,...who are you? Aside from being really big in sweets, is there a title for that?ā There was probably something more formal than āsweet master extreme,ā right?
(tfw youāre so stressed that despite being busy as heck you need to rp to destress; anyway hi I MAY BE BACK Iāll be a little slow on yumi bc my muse has been ripped up from work but Iāll try to get back on these posts! My priority is gonna go towards ones I can see finishing soon, just so I can slim down on the number of tread I have!!!!)
((yoooo just so yāall know Iām going to try and update with one reply a week while I try and do the fun that is ātrying to get a job so I have income!ā If it gets really bad, Iāll send a hiatus to the ml but for now! Weāll see!))

The mage couldnāt respond verbally, but was thankful that his friend tugged him away from the awful memories (though he did have to be reminded of paying for the tome he had gotten first): far, far away.
Past any noise or other influences that would only make him freeze more, they left - and found a place to sit. Laurent sat on the object, taking shaky, long breaths: with the tome far away now, he felt like he could actually do something, start to try to calm down - but it had shaken him so much it took a good few minutes of breathing.
Slowly, but steadily, his breathing returned to normal. He nodded to his friend, but had an apologetic look on his face.Ā āIā¦I-iām terribly sorry we had to cut the tome observing short on my accountā¦ā
It was evident he felt pretty bad, even if he hadnāt been able to help that panicked reaction.
When the latter makes any verbal response, Yumihiko wonders at first if he misheard. He goes to repeat himself -- did he mispronounce a word, somehow? -- but then he notices the non-verbal cues.
The breathing. A trembling body. Lack of voice.
Laurent looked so, so small at this time. All of his composure was gone, his usually stoic disposition cast aside. Even when he does finally speak, its after a fair amount of deep breathing, and his expression....why was it full of guilt? Did he do something bad?
No, he.....
Wordlessly, Yumihiko puts a hand on Laurentās, and meets the mageās eyes. Heās quiet, searching, gears slowly turning as he seeks out a way to express what he thinks in words.
āNo, we should stay here.ā He means to say it as an option, but it comes out more forced than heād like. āJust me, and you, and this quiet place, ok? We can take all the time, and if you need to talk, Iāll listen. I can listen lots.ā
With that, he looks away, but his hand remains. Heās completely serious on the matter, and doesnāt look like heās getting up anytime soon.
neversaydie-chi:
Ahā¦his mind slowly recalling the horrors of the ultimate challenge which he had, in the end, failed, once he heard the boyās words, Daichi nodded, now understanding.
āWhoa!! I remember now, Iām awake! Soā¦uhā¦I havenāt been out a whole day or something, have I? Because thatās kinda embarrassingĀ if that happened.ā He wouldnāt be surprised if the answer wasĀ āyesā, though: he couldnāt see much light outside the windows when he groggily turned his head.
āWell, thatās trueā¦I never said where I lived? Maybe you should make that a thing to do? Make people tell you their hotel rooms as part of the contract?ā
As dorky as he was, Daichi had a good idea there. When asked if he could get up, he did try - but was still groggy from how much the challenge had taken out of him, and so he fell towards the floor.Ā āAw, jeez, Iām sorry to make you worry this muchā¦note to self, big challenges like this are out of my leagueĀ for the time being.ā
Yumihiko listened silently as Daichi spoke, watching him slowly put together what had in fact happened. āAh, yeah, you....itās been a while...." Heād look out the window himself, noting how dark it gotten.
Despite Daichiās next comment, Yumihiko continues to stare out the windows, focused on how empty the streets were now that itād gotten dark....but then gasps, returning his attention to the boy.
āT..thatās a good plan! Then I can bring them home if these things happen.......mmmm, but if they were too heavy, I donāt know if I could carry them there...ā Granted, heās not even sure if he could carry Daichi home, but given his size, the probability was a bit higher that someone taller than him.
Ah, thatās right though! Now that the latter was awake, he could close up the establishment. Listing the order of procedures to himself, he double checked the kitchen, the lights, the tables, and then returned to Daichiās side.
āIām going to close this place up!ā He exclaims, āDo you need anything before I do? I donāt mind walking home with you if youāre still feeling weird either...ā He knows for sure that Daichi isnāt going to pass out again anytime soon, but it was late out....

@bestofdebeste
āā Although Maya had every intention of getting out of this creepy place as soon as possible, she recognized that progress on her investigation was pretty slow-going. Or, you know, nonexistent. It was hard to interrogate witnesses when they were all sheep, okay?
āā The way it was, she didnāt think sheād be getting out of here any time soon, and that meant she had to start livingĀ here. Which meant food! Lots and lots of food. Thus, she found herself perusing the wares of Cereal Market, heading straight for the sweets because she was in charge of her own diet now, thanks very much.
āā She saw the last container of triple chocolate chunk ice cream from all the way down the aisle, and her heart sang a sweet, sweet melody of chocolaty goodness. It was some sheep-themed knockoff brand (Brayerās), but ice cream was ice cream and she was in heaven!
āā With her dessert tunnel vision activated as it was, she didnāt realize that someone else was trying to walk through this aisle until she had crashed right into him. Like, straight-up bulldozed him into the ground and stepped right on his hand! She wasnāt surprised that she was capable of violence in the name of ice cream, but she was definitely embarrassed.
āā āEep!ā she squeaked.Ā āThat was an accident, Iām so sorry!ā
āāĀ āBut if you were going for the ice cream, thereās more where that came from!ā
Ah, the cereal market. Itās been a while! A long, long time.
Yumihiko recalls all the times heād go to gather every single snack food in the place and pay for it without a care in price. Instinct even brings him to head towards the biggest cart he can find -- but, no, this isnāt how heās going to be shopping today.
Since Hajime was busy with work, he offered to take on this weekās grocery shopping. He even got a list from the latter with the strict intention of following it -- not because he was using Hajimeās money, but because he was using his own money. Even with the job he had now, learning to manage the money he received was very important! He needed to practice this skill.
After collecting a few of the requested items, he stops at one of the aisles, brows furrowing at the wording of one of the list items. Oh, he went over this with Hajime, this word was-.....
Whatever that word was, it flew away -- much like his body as a whole. To add to that, he felt something press against his hand? And it hurt a lot? Ow?! Who was the one who caused this?! Was...
.....w-was this going to be like the first time he went to the market?! What if Bitsy got mad at him again-...wait!! This was a person? One that looked extremely sorry at that.
Blinking a few times, he listens to the latterās apology before replying. āU...uh! Itās ok, youāre not hurt r-...ice cream? I...maybe itās on my list, uh...ā Taking a quick glance at the list, he looks back up at the stranger. āYeah it is! Do you have any suggestions?ā
solaignemmagi:
Laurent wants to look away from the accursed tome that brought back so many horrid memories that he already had nightmares about almost every night - but he simply canāt look away. Heās frozen due to the overwhelming feelings it brought.
His hands shake - goodness knows he looks pathetic to his friend right now, and he wouldnāt blame Yumihiko if he felt embarrassed - but inside, the mage is pleading with a tiny internal voice that the other doesnāt walk off without him. He didnāt want to be alone with such horrid memories.
Heād had enough of that in the desert for five years. His hands quiver and shake, so frozen with fear the mage is - he doesnāt even note his friend walking in front of him.
Feeling the warmth of anotherās hands through his gloves was enough to snap him out of his frozen state, though the shakes were still evident. Ahā¦Yumihiko took his hands? He wishes he could thank him, butā¦
Heās still petrified by those haunting memories. He canāt even speak. He registers Yumihikoās words of seeing something else cool as a lie, being the sharp mind he is, but he knowsā¦his friend is trying to help. He can only give a truly grateful look and allow the other to tug him away.
While Yumihiko was worried about his friendās lack of voice, he doesnāt push on it. He can tell by the expression on his face that he needed to be away from the situation at hand, perhaps quickly at that.
After being reminded by the clerk to pay for his book -- whoops! -- Yumihiko brings him away from the loud and boisterous crowds flocking by the various vendors. Away from the noise, the hoards of sheep and people, and off to someplace quieter. Calmer.
ā...ā Once the two of them find a nice place to sit -- there were a few benches about here, perfect for taking a breather -- Yumihiko allows the latter to take a few deep breaths before speaking up. āIs...is this better?ā He asks, watching for any signs as to how to approach things next.
Movie Night
kusamochilover:
The look onĀ Ichiyanagiās face already made all the time and effort Hajime had put into setting up everything for their movie night worth it. He didnāt remember a time Ichiyanagi had been more happily surprised around him before.Ā
āYes, of course. We can start watching after you put on something more comfortable. No need to hurry either, I donāt have a shift today.ā
They could stay up all night to binge-watch series. That is if Ichiyanagi wanted to do that, of course. Hajime was pretty confident he could stay up extraordinary late because he already worked late hours for his job, but Ichiyanagi probably was tired already after a long day of work.Ā
āIāve never done something like this before⦠I might have gone a little overboard with the pillow fort, haha.ā
As soon as heās given the ok, Yumihiko searches his belongings and finds a suitable set of clothes. He eagerly heads into the bathroom, properly changes into them, and rushes back out -- and gosh, his face is nothing but smiles and starry eyes, a excited expression ever present despite work wearing him out.
āYou havenāt?ā The boy remarks, as he finds his way into the excellently crafted fort, peeking out from the opening; ābut this looks like a pro work!ā He really, really doesnāt want to ruin such craftsmanship! That would be awful!
His eyes glance over to the TV. āIām all set now, so we can watch it! As much as possible. Yeah! All night!ā Of course he didnāt want something this exciting to end, but given his day, who knows how quickly heās going to dose off! But...
Whether he knew of that or not, Yumihiko didnāt seem to care. Given how often the two of them worked, it was uncommon to see each other! So, why not take the chance to use as much time as possible when together?
vkusnokatsudon:
Thereās a small smile on his face as he watches Yumihiko trying his hardest to keep himself upright. He seems to understand what to do, albeit he might be doing a bit too much, as his knees bend a bit more than necessary, but Yuuri tells him what he did wrong and to watch how he does it.
Though saying that might be a less helpful since heās been skating for years and knows how to do this like the back of his hand, but it still is a good thing heās watching him. Learning from observation helps of course, but most of the learning comes from doing, which Yumihiko is trying to do, so theyāre slowly but surely making progress.
āAlright then, but if you fall itās okay. Falling is a part of learning to skate. Iāll be right here if you need to go back to holding my hands.ā Yuuri lets go of his hands and skates away a bit, not too far from him, but far enough for him to have space to skate on his own.
And slowly they are! When Yuuri corrects him, the gentleness and care in his voice surprises him -- there are people out there that donāt just yell, lots of people, but these sorts of people had been scarce most of his life. Though, that isnāt quite right, either; if it wasnāt yelling, it was being ignored, pushed aside for being āincompetentā and seeing no desire to change that...
Even if Yumihiko barely knows the person before him, thereās a sense of trust forming. Every correction, every gentle reminder to ātry it this way,ā every single action builds on that foundation.
āAlright.ā He says, perhaps a bit more emotional than heād like it to be, but alas! He watches his hands slide away from Yuuriās, and suddenly, his focus is on the ice -- ok, his legs were bent a little, and he was still standing! Now he just needed to move, and move, and...
Oh, heās moving! His posture is still a bit wonky, and heās waving his hands a bit to remain his balance, but this is the longest heās been up so far! āI, Iām actually, Iām moving--!ā And then he realizes heās moving too fast, hands waving furiously in a feeble attempt to stop himself from crashing into the side of the rink.
solaignemmagi:
āAh, I see. That is good. I hope whoever you plan on making the food for likes it, hmm?ā A smile and an accepting nod at his friendās statement, Laurent did not ask further about it. If he didnāt want to say who the food was for, that was a secret he could keep to himself. He certainly wasnāt about to pester his friends for things they held close. He had secrets he didnāt speak of, to.
That thought aside, he was glad that the prospect of snow was a good idea that Yumihiko could agree with as well - but on seeing Yumihiko look at another set of books, he felt his heart almost stop.
āT-thoseā¦are not magic books I want to touch at all.ā He recognized the covers, and knew - they were tomes for Dark Magic. Such as necromancy or black magic as the kind Henry or Tharja might specalise inā¦it was exceedingly powerful, broken magic, butā¦frightening to behold. Heād never touched one of those tomes at all. Because it reminded him too much of the unholy Risen that hadā¦well.
āPl-please, letās not look at that set, and look at something elseā¦?ā
His voice quavered and shook. Evidently he didnāt want to look at those tomes further, and they brought up bad memories.
Likes it? Of course he was going to like it! Love it, even! Yumihiko was going to make this food so good, heād want to eat every single bite, no leftovers left, not a speck on the plate itād be served on-
A..ah? The demeanor that Laurent had changed; the voice he had was nothing like Yumihiko had heard before. He wondered why, but the answer came with the words that the latter spoke of.
There were magic books that couldnāt be touched? Yumihiko would go to voice that, but he cuts himself off, looking between the tomes and the person.
Without warning, his arms reaches out, but halts just moments from Laurent's own. His eyes stare down at his hands, which then -- with much more care -- puts into his own.
āI think...I saw something else cool!ā The boy tries to lie -- but gods, itās such an easy lie. āUhm, overrrrrrrr, uuhhh.....itās this way, you want to follow?ā Even with the obvious lie, itās clear that he just wants to get Laurent out of this situation -- and hopefully to somewhere more comfortable.
The Star ā
The Star: If your muse had one wish, what would it be?
While the concept would be very daunting, heād wish for a family again. OneĀ that actually teaches him things and treats him as a human, rather than another pawn to be used, and not purposely trying to leave out facts..
Heād need a lot of time to adjust to this if this wish came true, however. Heās way too used to being on his guard...
Wheel of Fortune & The Hanged Man!
Wheel of Fortune: Does your muse believe in luck?
Iād say to some extent, yes! But...not necessarily good luck? I mean, what are the odds that kidnappers -- one sent by his own father, by gosh -- would accidentally kidnap him instead? The fact that someone found him could been seen as good luck, however......
The Hanged Man: Name a bad habit your muse can't give up.
He comes off as a lot more insensitive to idea of my murder than one would expect! Itās not just because heās used to it, but past cases were performed with the mindset ofĀ āIām going to solve this because Iām the best.ā Because of this, he held little regard to how others felt about the heavy topic.
Heās gotten a little better at latter now, and ultimately wants to be someone other than āthe best,ā but deep down, he still wants to be in the spotlight. He probably struggles a lot with this, but doesnāt really like to talk about it!
The Sun: What was the happiest moment of your muse's life?
For canon events: Itād be a tie between him graduating (at the time, he felt really accomplished, and while things have changed, that initial āyou did it!ā was so strong), and the moment when people are finally not pushing him under a rug and actually. Listen to him (defs bittersweet, tho)
For steci: When he goes into the dang maze and meets three friends and itās really good and pure and he heads home realizing that he really has friends what, what, whatttttttt
neversaydie-chi:
Daichi groaned as he slowly came to - his stomach was grumbling as if in protest, and he felt groggy. What was going on? It felt like heād been lying on something flat a long time, but as far as he knew, he hadnāt done something like that.Ā āW-whaa? This isnāt my room? Whereād my room go? Why isnāt it here?ā
He didnāt understand, still being half-asleep and somewhat sore - but a familiar voice approaching him almost makes him jump in a mixture of surprise and relief. Waitā¦it was the waiter from the burger challenge. Why was he in this bedroom? No, waitā¦maybe he wasnāt in a bedroom at all?
Oh, man, he really wasnāt good at processing information when heād just woken up, and he turned to the familiar face, seeking answers.Ā āH-hey, I just woke up, so Iām a little confused: what happened? Am Iā¦actually still in the Burger Barn, and not back in the hotel room?āĀ
A dweeby boy, Daichi was - but one couldnāt blame him for being disorientated with how much heād eaten to fall asleep in the first place.
Oh, geez, was he actually ok, if he thought he was in his bedroom? Though, waking up after what happened would be rather disoriented, he canāt blame him on that!
āYouāre still here, yeah.ā Yumihiko awkwardly explains, āI donāt...really know where you live, so I couldnāt carry you home...ā Though, if it got too late, he had considered bringing the latter back Hajimeās -- but this was his final resort, itād be rude to just bring someone to someone elseās home...
Even if it was technically Yumihikoās home now too, respect was important!
āCan you get up? And walk?ā The boy then asks. āEven if you got knocked out by the challenge, itās very needed to know your condition. Policy and all.ā But, it was also because Yumihiko was super concerned! Who knew a burger could do that?
