The Fair Elections Act has made it harder for homeless people to vote. This election is not proving it will be any easier for them to get affordable housing.

According to Elections Canada and the lawyers who argued for the government and against the Council of Canadians and Canadian Federation of Students in their Charter Challenge in the Fair Elections Act case, if you are homeless, no worries, you can still vote in this federal election.

If you are homeless, especially a homeless youth, please vote.

i can confirm that homeless youth can vote! many in my shelter have gotten letters from the shelter or the food kitchen. alot of organizations are trying to help people get ID by vouching for them rn too.

Where Do I Vote?

Alright, seeing as I had to walk a friend through this tonight and it was less straightforward than I expected, I’m going to show you how to find your polling station for election day. If you got a voter information card, this is probably pretty easy, but you might want to check the website anyway, so here we go.

When you go to Elections Canada Home, right now it looks like this:

I’ve put a big red box around the thing you want to pay attention to. Yeah there’s a postal code in there. No, it’s not mine. You want to put your postal code in this box, and click go. That’ll bring you to a page that looks like this:

This was not what I expected to see. Where’s the polling location? My friend and I spent a few minutes trying to sort this out, but the picture above already has the answer for you. Click on the link I’ve surrounded with a red box, and you get this:

And there you go. That’s where I would go to vote, if that were my postal code at the start. It’s not, of course, but hey, this isn’t about me: This is about you. Now you don’t have the “I don’t know where to go” excuse any more. So go vote, on October 19th, in the right place, between the right times, and let your voice be heard.
