Only 2 days until the election!
Make sure you’re prepared, with this handy infographic courtesy of Elections Canada.
The Fair Elections Act has made it harder for homeless people to vote. This election is not proving it will be any easier for them to get affordable housing.
According to Elections Canada and the lawyers who argued for the government and against the Council of Canadians and Canadian Federation of Students in their Charter Challenge in the Fair Elections Act case, if you are homeless, no worries, you can still vote in this federal election.
If you are homeless, especially a homeless youth, please vote.
i can confirm that homeless youth can vote! many in my shelter have gotten letters from the shelter or the food kitchen. alot of organizations are trying to help people get ID by vouching for them rn too.
Important voting info! You need proof of address BUT the voter info card they mail you is NOT proof of address. (But ANY OTHER bill mailed to you is proof of address)
The Canadian election is on October 19. Here’s what you need to know to cast your ballot and make an informed decision
Where Do I Vote?
Alright, seeing as I had to walk a friend through this tonight and it was less straightforward than I expected, I’m going to show you how to find your polling station for election day. If you got a voter information card, this is probably pretty easy, but you might want to check the website anyway, so here we go.
When you go to Elections Canada Home, right now it looks like this:
I’ve put a big red box around the thing you want to pay attention to. Yeah there’s a postal code in there. No, it’s not mine. You want to put your postal code in this box, and click go. That’ll bring you to a page that looks like this:
This was not what I expected to see. Where’s the polling location? My friend and I spent a few minutes trying to sort this out, but the picture above already has the answer for you. Click on the link I’ve surrounded with a red box, and you get this:
And there you go. That’s where I would go to vote, if that were my postal code at the start. It’s not, of course, but hey, this isn’t about me: This is about you. Now you don’t have the “I don’t know where to go” excuse any more. So go vote, on October 19th, in the right place, between the right times, and let your voice be heard.
Some resources to prepare you for October 19:
- Pollenize Platform Breakdown
- CBC’s Vote Compass
- Maclean’s Policy Face-Off Machine
If you don’t choose, other will choose for you.
Can you imagine your dad choosing your Tinder dates for you?
CAN YOU IMAGINE THEM VOTING FOR YOU?!
Vote savvy is a great organization that is engaging youth across the country; challenging them to learn, choose and vote Savvy. They have a website with videos, a voting survey and resources to organize voting actions. you can find their website here.

Want to influence the future of Canada’s environment?
Get out there and vote on October 19th, and convince a friend to join you!
If you have a disability that may cause you to make a mistake on your ballot, you have the option of asking for the DRO to assist you to ensure that your vote is not spoiled. If you do not feel comfortable with this, you are allowed to have a family member or someone you trust assist you when voting. If you spoil your ballot by accident, you may ask for another ballot BUT YOU WILL ONLY GET ONE MORE. You will NOT get another. We want to make sure your vote counts, so ask for help if needed!

Avoid FOMO and head to a polling station.
Advanced polls saw a 71% increase in voters when compared to 2011.
So proud of my fellow Canadians right now!
Dan Mangan, Ryan Guldemond and The Boom Booms are some of the musicians performing while heading to advanced polls with buses of young people as part of Turn Up YVR campaign.
Want to have a say in the future of Canada’s education system?
Vote on October 19th, and get a friend to vote too!
