Day 1 is wrapped up and Bethpage Regal Eagles are ready to compete tomorrow and Saturday; looks like we've got a LOT of work (and fun) to accomplish!
week 1 video is up!!
Today's progress.
1/9/15 Tomorrow marks the end of the first out of 6 weeks, and we have already accomplished so much. Without the normal electrical person around, the next in line stepped in and did something no one thought was possible. Michael and I - with little FRC electrical experience - quickly researched everything and made a lot of progress. They connected 3 talons, rewired the robo rio to the breakout board, wired the light, and wired the d-Link wireless bridge. Basically eveyrthing is wired and ready to roll. However, we also made progress on the rest of the robot. With the prototype finished for now we focused our efforts on the drive train. Drew, Mr. Zabell, and Harshil built the entire thing other then connecting the wheels. All we need to finish it is a trip to Lowe's which Mr. Zabell is doing before our robotics meeting tomorrow. That means we will have a fully functioning omnidirectional drive train tomorrow. That also means we are ahead of our schedule. On some things not completed related to the robot; Smiti, Brianna, and Mackenzie did some major research that is while listening to the He-Man "HeyYeaYeaYeaYea" Song. They got all the info we need for our Chairman's award entry and researched other awards as well. Hopefully by applying for these awards, we will be able to come home after competition with at least one or more of them.

FIRSTers:
Your robot is important. You are more important. So: •wear safety glasses •keep your shoes tied •tuck the sweatshirt strings in to your sweatshirt •stick together •take deep breaths •drink water (preferably not near the robot) •keep your hair tied back That’s all, have a safe 2015 season!
1/8/15 Chris and Devin completed 3D drawing of crucial field pieces, in order to begin building them next week.

1/8/15 I think we can all say that the today’s theme is definitely cutting. We were able to get a lot of things cut and ready thanks to Brianna, the expert sawsgirl. Before that, Harshil, Gabby and I were able to get the motors ready for use right away! Melissa, Harshil and I were able to work on two batteries to also get them ready for use. Currently we are working on connecting some more wires with the batteries and circuit boards. We are getting a lot done so far!

1/8/15 Today was a good day for robotics (high five Lissy aka Melissa Cao). We successfully update the firmware of the roboRIO, imaged it, and then I wrote a sample project, deployed it, and was able to control the talon with the joystick. As for wiring/programming setup, we are looking pretty good now. Hopefully, we can have a completed wiring-programming interface by Tuesday! By the way, there are little kids singing outside and its super kawaii (sorry just had to add that).

Hey everyone, long time no see!
I've realized that nobody's updated this in a VERY long time, but that's about to change.
From now on, this page will be updated on a daily to weekly basis to show progress with both our team and robot.
More updates coming soon!

1/7/15 It's a beautiful, snowy, freezing cold Wednesday. We were hard at work trying to reach our goals of this week (building the drive train and a working prototype). Drew is hard at work on the prototype and is making impressive progress. His prototype looks good enough to be on our actual robot. Gabby and Mr. Zabell were working hard changing the gear ratios all while Mackenzie and Brianna were doing a salsa dance (hey, you gotta have fun once in a while). Melissa also made nice progression the electronics side of things. She is carefully wiring up the Roborio, circuit breaker, and the breakout board. This is all on her new glass workstation that both allows her to work more quickly and more efficiently.

1/6/15 It's a cold snowy day; the seniors are mad because they couldn't go out for lunch, and the students are as happy as possible on their second day back to school. The team got to work straight away with a couple of main tasks: Prototype the game mechanism, build the drive train, and build our new Drill Press. Immediately, we split into our teams. On the drive train side of things Mr. Zabell and Gabby Iocavano figured out a way to change the gear ratio on our gearboxes. That way we go faster while losing some torque. The good news is due to the non defensive game we have this year, speed is something we want more then being strong. Sadly, it's not the most conventional way to fix it, but we are making it work. On the prototyping side of things, team members and one of our mentors, Jenn Hoffman, are hard at work building the first prototype. We decided on making a forklift design with hugging arms to grip the crates.....again sorta ignoring the noodle. And last but not least Brian McCarthy and I built the brand new mini tabletop drill press we got. It is complete with a 5 speed belt system and even a little light to see what we are doing. We also cleared off a new table for the electrical and coding team to work off of.

1/5/15 Okay, so it's the first day back from our long restful break (okay maybe not that long) but regardless after our 9 periods of work the team came to the robotics room eager to start. We first decided whether to use omnidirectional wheels or the normal "KOP" drive train. We opted to use our omni wheels but that came with some challenges of its own. All this while the electrical team led by Melissa and the Coding Team, led by Harshil, began to work on the brand new control system for the first time. The Prototyping team was also hard at work using 3D modeling software to figure out the best way to execute the robot we want to build. The day was long and hard but a lot of work was done.

What do all of these people have in common? The love and passion of Robotics, of course!
And also the overwhelming desire to know what the game is about already.
(It's Recycle Rush.)

1/3/15 Today the brave members of the robotics club trecked out to the school at 7:20am to get on a bus to Stony Brook University, where the Kickoff of 2015 was broadcasted live internationally. The students anxiously awaited for hours to find out what this year’s objective is would be. We learned that the objective is Recycle Rush. From there we got our “KOP” or kit of parts and trecked on back to Bethpage High School for the first day of the vigorous 6 week long build season. We discussed the objectives of this year’s game and what to focus on. We all agreed to focus on the bins and leave the noodle for later. We then headed out nice and early (due to school restrictions) and put our brains to work at home. One particular student, Drew Maggio, did what he does best and started 3d modeling his ideas. All in all, the day was extremely eventful, both learning this year’s FRC game and brainstorming ideas about building a robot to win the game. 2015, here we come.
