You know thinking about “Alone”, that whole episode…just everything Daryl did, was FOR Beth. From the beginning to the very end of it.
He was teaching her how to track, rushing to her aide when she stepped on the trap, helping her walk, the piggy back, stopping at the grave to let her mourn her father (picking the flowers), holding her hand, continuing to carry her to the funeral home, getting safely inside….
When he made a joke about the dead bodies being dressed up, she quickly stated she thought it was beautiful, he respected her opinion….he stood there (just basking in it) taking that all in. He didn’t snicker, or make another joke, he didn’t say Stop….I might add…as he did to Carol when they were in the office, in Consumed, when He made the joke about the painting & then she said she liked it…think about that…same type thing but two different responses, he didn’t see her appreciation, just a totally different vibe there. Because one was just a Friend conversation…as opposed to the other which was a relationship developing with very deep feelings. Beth opened his eyes & he respected that she saw something beautiful that moments before he thought was funny or to be made fun of.
Softly speaking to her & tending to her injured ankle, mirroring her thoughts & stating they will only take some of the food & leave the rest for whoever is living there, wanting her to continue singing as he laid there & listened (because he knew she enjoyed to sing).
Scooping her up & carrying her into the kitchen where he had so thoughtfully sat out their food at the table, commanding she stay while he investigated the rumbling of the cans outside, then concerned she didn’t stay & she inquires about the dog, to which he says maybe he’ll come back.
The dinner scene where he decides they should stay there & the moment he can’t put in to words, when she asks what changed his mind. He then tells her “you know” with a quick awkward smile. One of the first things he says at the beginning of the Ep, “the signs are all there, you just have to know how to read em”. Everything he did for her up until that point, where they are sitting at that table, stated exactly how he felt, being the type of person he is…being very guarded & hard to trust, he felt his actions SPOKE louder than any of his words could. She finally realised…with her “Oh”!
Folks, that’s love! And Undeniable!
