I'll Write You a Tragedy | Bruce&Betty
Bruce wouldn’t tell. He knew what it was like to become a science experiment rather than a scientist. Even if he was mad about her making his mistakes, he wouldn’t wish that on anyone. “Your secret’s safe,” he promised. And unless there was a threat to more than just his own life, it was a secret he intended to keep.
It wasn’t easy. There was nothing easy about the Hulk and Bruce knew that better than anyone. He’d had to handle it alone, any help he ever sought turned on him in the long run. He didn’t necessarily blame her wish to keep it all a secret, to handle it alone, but she had no idea what she was doing. Bruce had had several years to figure it out by now and even he was still struggling with his mistakes.
He sighed and nodded his head reluctantly before following her down to the labs. It was the most uncomfortable elevator of his life, and he’d had several of them where guns were pointed at him courtesy of this girl’s father, but this one still took the cake. He was the first out the doors and bee lined right into his usual lab. Once Betty was in he turned to the panel y the door and set the room to privacy mode.
"I don’t consider myself the best teacher for this…but since I’m the only one you’ve got…." He shook his head. "What happened the uh first time?"
Perhaps it was because he'd now discovered that there were not one, but two dangers to SHIELD to worry about, or perhaps it was because they were now both in an enclosed space with no where to hide, but Bruce seemed rather uncomfortable. Understandably so, because she was rather uncomfortable as well. Part of her wanted to ask him how he felt about the weather, but she didn't feel much like joking.
He didn't hesitate to exit the elevator as soon as the doors slid open, and Betty barely had time to think about what was happening before he was halfway down the hallway. Following behind him, Betty walked quickly, but nonchalantly. Pretending like they had something to hide would do them no good in the long run.
"Word to the wise, Bruce, if you don't want people to be suspicious of you, I wouldn't act so suspiciously." She said as she passed him on her way in. The large expanse of laboratories had never felt so empty, and Betty was busy admiring the pristine equipment like she always did, that she barely noticed when he began speaking to her.
"Well, I was at home, with my father actually. I didn't experience any normal symptoms of radiation poisoning, rather my experience almost exactly mimicked yours. Except, my hulk form is red, not green. I have yet to figure out if that actually means anything though." Betty explained, twiddling her thumbs uncomfortably.
