i wrote this song after looking back on my past. realizing that i spent so much time just investing in things i should’t have. it took me a while to really process all the changes in my life. i needed someone there for me who took my side. a lot of people were left watching on the sidelines not knowing what was going on or what i was going through. when everyone walked away i was left with little to nothing. sometimes it doesn’t feel fair when someone leaves ‘winning’ and you feel like dirt. wanting to speak up but no one will listen. eventually it will be okay. when you have nothing your only choice is to rebuild.

Sometimes it only takes a single listen of a single song to know a band is headed to bigger places than the bar in their hometown. For Southeast Texas pop-punk trio Dear You, it is more than just playing music with their best friends, they are here with a statement. Dear You is a band that drives upbeat and thoughtful instrumentals with emotional lyrics and gritty vocals, directing intensity and force into their music.  Drawing musical inspiration from The Dangerous Summer and The Wonder Years, Dear You got their start in 2010 and within the next two years they thrived. They were included in Rock Sound Magazine's Band's To Know in 2012, in Alternative Press AP&R section in 2012 and 2013, and secured an opening slot on a few dates of the Heart Attack Tour 2014 (Man Overboard, Transit). Now a year later, the band has solidified their lineup of Chris Roach (vocals), Thomas Marsella (guitar), and Louis Moore (drums) with new material to be released this year. Taking pride in a deep connection with their fan base, Dear You has proven that the short time they have been together is only the beginning. The trio just released I Can Only Blame Myself. The EP will reel you in and refuse to let go. Bonfires is a band hot off the streets of Chicago, representing Illinois very well with their debut EP "We all talk about dying like we've done it before" Bonfires is emotional, while very punchy at the same time, The EP starts out with "Waiting" which in my opinion, is one of the catchiest songs on the whole EP. Seaway is a pop-punk band from Oakville, Ontario. The band has released three EPs and one full length album. Hoser is a very high energy album, a bunch of dudes partying in there beloved town of Oakville, these guys are a major contender to be a huge name in pop punk, my favorite song, Shy Guys instantly catches you and gives you the feeling to go out and party, very fast paced drumming, clean and raspy vocal transitions, and high driven guitars. Hoser is an album you shouldn't miss out on.

The Rebound

Location - San Diego, California

Genre - Pop Punk

For Fans Of: Forever Came Calling, Neck Deep, Set Your Goals

Album - Diary of a Tin Man(2014)

Rating - 8/10

The Rebound is a pop punk band from San Diego. The unique in your face sound The Rebound brings to Diary of a Tin Man is sure to have any listened hooked instantly, this has become one of my personal favorites front to back, every single song on the album has a different feel to it, very little repetition through out each track, and an all around So Cal Pop Punk vibe that sends chills down my spin. I would highly recommend this album, which you can buy off their Bandcamp for only ten dollars.

Brighter Brightest

Location - Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Genre - Pop Punk

For Fans Of: The Summer Set, Handguns, Carridale

Album -  Arrow Ep (2014)

Label - Black Box / Maple Music

Rating - 6/10

Brighter Brightest captures your attention with their catchy chorus opener “Strike Gold”. The guitar riffs in “Give Me Something” propel the song through and provide a perfect build up and transition to and from the chorus. The band writes genuine lyrics, it’s not something that you will find redundant or what you’ve heard before. Derek pleads with his audience in “Roll with Me”, “Why can’t you learn/ It’s not what you see/ It’s what you feel”. The melodies stick with you even after you've closed your computer; you’ll find yourself humming along to “Waiting for You” and if you’re a musician, you’ll most certainly want to figure out some of the guitar riffs and leads or drum along at home. My personal favorite, “Grey Sweater”, captures the essence of Brighter Brightest. This song holds everything you could want in a song: connection to lyrics, cool guitar parts, sing-a-long feel, guitar solo, and kick ass drums. The final song on “Arrow” is titled “Someone New” and gets you on your feet with the fast paced drum intro. This song is a good end to an EP, because the message is about moving on and most importantly, moving forward. The bridge hits me right in the feels with the words, “And I know it’s so hard to explain/ But the times we had/ I was holding back the pain/ And I know that you won’t understand/ But, If you love someone/ You don’t lock them out in the rain”. Definitely a connectable piece. Overall, the album is well-rounded and professional quality. This is definitely a band you will want to keep your eyes out for.
