Wander Interview
Here is our interview with Wander! They are a four piece band from Frederick, MD. Jack Rentschler, their guitarist/vocalist, answered these questions for us.
How many band members are there? What are their names and positions? There are four of us; Andy Cizek – vocals Jack Rentschler (me) – guitar/vocals Mack Gallagher – guitar/vocals Brett Schleicher - drums
Where is Wander from?
Frederick, MD
How long has Wander been a band? Why did you want to start one? We have been a band for about two years. Live music has always been a passion of mine, and I wanted to spread the euphoria that I feel when seeing a band in a live setting. There's nothing better.
How did you come up with the name Wander? My girlfriend had pitched the name “Wanderer” to me as I was in the middle of playing Shadow of the Colossus, a video game whose main character is named “Wander”. The whole situation was a massive coincidence so I pitched the name to the guys, they loved it, and the rest is history.
Who are your influences?
Anyone who makes music.
What are Wander's songs about? Do they cover any specific themes? They cover a variety of different topics but one revolving theme is wandering through life without really knowing your place in the world. The journey of life is a pretty difficult thing to fathom, and no one has it all figured out.
What direction is Wander's music heading?
That's a great question, and one that I don't really have an answer to. I think about it all the time but in the end, I write what I write and that's what we end up sounding like.
Has Wander recorded any previous CDs or have any songs online?
We've just released our self-titled debut album so far. We've got some big plans for the near future as far as more material goes.
What separates Wander from other bands?
I think we have a unique sound. If you listen to our debut album all the way through, you'll see that we cover a very broad spectrum of sounds ranging from fast and poppy, to slow and ambient. Our band name is a pretty good indicator for what we sound like.
What is Wander's favorite venue to play? Dream venue?
We played Ram's Head Live in Baltimore last year, that was pretty intoxicating. It was by far the biggest stage I have ever been on, and it was a great show. Honestly, that place is probably my dream venue; aside from Madison Square Garden of course.
