Summary: Humans and werewolves don't mix, so when Harry brings a human into his pack tensions rise and war is sparked.
In a clearing, curled up in the gnarled roots at the base of an enormous willow tree, he finds her. She's on her hands and knees, grunting and rocking back and forth on her knees. It's then Harry realizes what's wrong.
This human girl is giving birth in Harry's woods. Harry takes cautious steps towards her, stopping when he sees her turn her head. He wished he could shift. He should shift. She's scared. Scared of what’s happening but also scared of Harry. She looks back down, crying out in pain. Harry comes closer, leaning down to let her clutch at the fur on the nape of his neck. She tugs harshly, her hand shaking. Fear and adrenaline radiates off of her.
With a gentle lick to her cheek he lays down beside her. She shifts, her upper body resting against his back while she still rocks and cries. Harry can smell the child. It's almost time. He curls his body around her, hoping his fur will keep her and the child warm while he sends out a telepathic message to the healer of his pack.
Harry knows next to nothing about handling the birthing of pups. Typically as alpha he is present if requested as often he is, but this is a human. He should leave. It's law that humans and wolves don't fraternize. But he couldn't walk away. There was something about her scent. It was different than anything he's ever smelled. It smells like....home. And besides there are predators in these woods, feral, lone wolves and bears and evil humans. It is Harry’s duty to protect the innocent, and if this human isn’t that, then he doesn’t know who is.
Mum, need you. I've found a human.
She cries again, twisting her fists into his fur. He wishes he could shift, but if he did that now, she and the baby would freeze. Instead he nuzzled her, purring when her arm wrapped around his neck, burying her face into him as she began to push. He licked her arm, hoping the motion was enough to comfort her.
