let's try this again.
@benayoung
like it or not, intend for it to happen or not, there's sides that are taken in the wake of every breakup. it's too awkward not to; as much as everyone says it doesn't bother them, it's weird for the friend in the middle, the person who knows and loves both parties but ultimately must choose who cries on their shoulder and screams about everything they hate about their ex.
now imagine how alex must feel in the wake of sarang and ren calling it quits. the love of his life and his best friend turned lover, the two most important people in alex's life, deciding that they're not good for each other, that the misunderstandings have piled up too high, and they can no longer move forward together. alex blamed himself; he should have been there to mediate between them sooner, to translate ren's abruptness and sarang's softness until they learned how to communicate better. he should have... done something. now he's sleeping on jindallae's couch, avoiding both of them, because how can he pick a side in this? alex decidedly isn't poly; he can't do two separate relationships at once. the joy and beauty of the three of them was the fact that it was all three together, one relationship shared between three people. this? this right now is a mess.
alex plants himself facedown, cheek resting against the table defeatedly across from nayoung. it's good to see her again, but there's a sting to their meeting as well. "how's ren doing?" alex asks her, hopeful for a good update even though he hasn't been able to bring himself to see either of his boys since things fell apart. he feels guilty no matter what, plus he's still processing his own grief.
"should i just kiss you?" he laughs, but it lacks any humor or joy behind it. "i'll get drunk again and kiss all my exes. maybe that'll fix me." he sighs. "probably not."
quiet falls, unusual in alex's normally chatty presence. any trace of a smile fades from his face, practically melting further into the table in his sorrow. "i don't really know what to do from here," he admits.
