This project has been in the works for a while. Originally it was meant to be a visual novel, but ultimately that fell through. I’m enjoying the webcomic style though! Just bear with me, I’m figuring things out as I go. Never done this before.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of our game’s sprites!

I’ve always been a painter, so I wanted this project to feel more painterly. I’m really striving to give everything more of a children’s book feel. You’ll notice that designs and backgrounds are relatively simple! Maybe I’ll share my drawing process one of these days. 💜

I’m really not a character artist, but I needed sprites to get underway so I took them on myself. I’ve been challenging myself to practice expressions for these by only using the eyes and head tilts to convey emotion. Been having a lot of fun with it!

This is more of a standalone piece that really inspired the whole story of our game. It’s very sketchy in comparison to everything else we’ve been working on!

I’ve been very influenced by music boxes during our project’s development, so that’s what I’m intending for our soundtrack to resemble. The music of a music box reminds me of childhood, but it also sets an eerie tone, I think. That’s what I’m going for, anyway.

I’d love to start interacting with some folks! It’s been a long time since I’ve truly used Tumblr.

Here’s a sneak peak of some of our background art!!

I wanted to make all of these diverse enough to show the different sections of the woods but keep them cohesive enough so that they all look like they’re from the same forest. I used specific color palettes for each one and really stuck to those.

I’m not typically a background artist but it was kind of therapeutic to paint a bunch of happy (and scary) little trees

Flora and Fauna are the two main protagonists of Beyond the Flower Grove, although our story is told through the eyes of Flora alone!

When creating this story, I was greatly inspired by stories like Fran Bow. The character designs were pulled from two adoptables I'd gotten a year or so ago, but tweaked a little to give them a bit more independence from each other.

Flora is the sister with the more dominant personality. She's cautious and inquisitive, and she's more mature than her twin.

Fauna is the sister who's more emotionally driven. She's a bit naive, and she usually follows Flora's lead.

Their personalities work well to balance each other out! Sometimes Fauna needs a bit of grounding, and sometimes Flora needs a little push to do things.

I think you'll see that very evident in our story when it comes out!
