Ilya getting cute aggression for Shane and pretending to die.

Like Shane will come back from having a shower and curl up on the couch beside Ilya and his cheeks are pink from the warm and his hair is wet and in his one of Ilya’s hoodies and he smells like soap and his conditioner and he yawns so big it makes his eyes water and as he curls into the the back of the couch he asks Ilya if they can watch this documentary about penguins that his dad said was good and Ilya just clutches and his chest and crawls forward and keens over and mushes his face into Shane’s chest.

Shane is like “what are you doing?” In a monotone voice and Ilya reaches out to blindly fit his hand to Shane’s cheek and is like “you have killed me” groans and rubs his face into Shane’s chest. And Shane is “from my boring?” Because Ilya does like to die from that every now and again, the last time was when he tried to explain to Ilya how the pans should be stacked in the draw so they don’t scuff. “No” Ilya sighs “even worse, you are so cute I’ve died” and Shane laughs and just smacks Ilya on the side of the head and then pulls at his curls. Ilya drags his face up and pouts and says “you need to give me mouth to mouth” and Shane frowns and mumbles “uh oh” and leans in and kisses Ilya. Because he’ll always play Ilya silly little games with him.

Ilya keeps doing it- dying of Shane’s cuteness- and Shane always needs to revive him with mouth to mouth (many many kisses).

Ilya so immediately clocked Shane's little autistic flirting in that Saskatchewan parking lot but I honestly don't think Shane clocked it himself so, years later, when Ilya talks about it as "Shane coming onto him" and Shane goes "hello??? I just wanted to introduce myself??" Ilya just says, "Shane, the apple of my eye, the light of my life, my breeze in a stuffy room, my sunshine in the dead of winter, when have you ever willingly initiated small talk with another person?" and Shane is forced to concede that, yes, looking back, he was flirting.

okay but the fact that being on the same team means that shane and ilya will be spending like. almost ALL of their time together. makes me laugh imagining the rare cases where they'll have to be without the other one because he's sick or something and had to stay behind.

just the saddest most pathetic lost puppy vibes. bonded pair do not separate has been forced to separate. yeah they're going to be here and do their job and play like a champ, but you bet your ass they're gonna be a little wet cat pathetic about it. their favorite person in the world isn't even here. what's the POINT.

there is an ongoing team joke of catching videos of a solo shane or ilya looking at their phone and then sighing or looking out of the window at the airport with "in the aaaarms of the angels" edited over it because they truly just look like a sad aspca commercial. "for only one good immune system a day, you can make a difference in lives like this one" sent right to the one who is having to stay home.

This is not who said that, but my favorite post-election analysis concluded the same and, ever since I read it, I've just been seeing it proven correct over and over. (I am very sorry to tell you that a British person wrote it. I know.)

The craziest thing about this whole situation is that Ilya thinks in Russian and in Russian ‘lovers’ LITTERAL TRANSLATION is ‘возлюбленные’. Which ACTUALLY MEANS ‘people who feel love and attraction towards each other’. MY BOY WAS CONFESSING HIS LOVE TO SHANE AND LOST IN TRANSLATION GAME. HE WAS SO PURE ABOUT IT AND ONLY GOT ‘No, Ilya, that’s gross’. MY SWEET LOVERBOY.
