idk consider this as au where harold did kill alicia and went completely off-rails, giving up on his rules very early. he still helps the numbers, had set the machine free, but became a criminal mastermind (oof). also his injuries from the bombing are different here

john met carter like in the pilot but agreed to try and get better. she helped him to become a cop and for some time john thought his life is better now, but he wasn't really satisfied with this job. he got obsessed with catching harold who by that time already ruled the city, but almost died in the process and was saved by harold of all people. admiring john's persistence he gave him the opportunity to work on the numbers, and john tried the new job after some convincing and stalking

john thinks that egret is a dangerous little bitch (he's right) while harold finds riley useful and amusing (and hot) but ready to get rid of him if john will cause him trouble
