Hopefully one day Lena Dunham will stop using her body shape as an excuse for why people don’t like her and start realizing it’s because she’s a terrible person.
Lauren Bacall’s nine-room apartment was located in the Dakota Building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, directly across from Central Park. Bacall lived at the Dakota until her death at the age of 89. Bacall collected antiques and art throughout her life, as seen throughout her apartment.
any book/blog/zine recommendations on feminism for poc?
wow !!! the best ask ever!!! !!!!!!
I always recommend bell hooks’ “feminist theory: from margin to center” or, as an intro, her “feminism is for everybody”
the most important text to me as a scholar and as an activist and as an tender pinay baby is “this bridge called my back: writings by radical women of color” here is an online link : http://www.mediafire.com/view/?t0vp3t4n9e8s3ebbut I suggest a physical copy so you can hold it to your chest when it reads the most real Gloria Anzaldúa is the biggest influence on my personal writing as well as on my academic writing as well as on my spirit and wellbeing.
here’s a tumblr post that has links to PDFs on race/gender/class/sexuality:http://flanneryogonner.tumblr.com/post/40237682151/free-pdf-books-on-race-gender-sexuality-class
some concepts in feminism that are v important to check out are “intersectional feminism” and “transnational feminism”
make sure to steer clear away from 1st / 2nd wave feminism (even 3rd wave tbh) and especially from radical feminism because no one likes a TERF and ya I’ve read Virginia Woolf but it’s boring and basic af and hella exclusionary. read those kinda things as side notes they aren’t helpful to existing and resisting as a POC every day
for blogs/online resources I really like http://www.blackgirldangerous.org
honestly I’ll plug myself and http:///www.brownreclusezinedistro.com/ the majority of zines on here are affordable accessible intersectional and written by and for POC. I like “Empower yoself before you wreck yoself: Native American feminist musings” and “not straight not white not male” by yellowxperilI also have a zine called “a lil’ critical race & gender theory” which contains snippets of essays on intersectionality, transnational feminism, rape culture, and whiteness ive written that are mostly starting points for folx
ok I’m on my phone and on the bus and just got off my 5am-230pm shift so im headfoggy but hopefully this is helpful and some of the lovely folx I follow can add to this!!!
xoxo bless you !! anyone plz message me on or off anon / add me on fb/ shoot me an email and lets talk forever abt this
from forever ago but still makes me smile that someone reached out !! xoxoxo
These are the photos of the Louisiana flood the media hasn’t shown you.
The situation is devastating.
this is my quick, unedited response to recent anons asking about help with starting a zine / motivation!
NOTE! I wrote this just a few hours ago, a little sleep deprived on a long flight back home. it’s not complete and it’s just thoughts off the top of my head. sorry to anyone if it’s visually straining,
@sundayschoolkid totally inspired the zine prompt about making lists (Grace is one of my favorite zine makers + based in l.a. also)
PLEASE BOOST THIS!!! The recent disappearances of girls of color from the Bronx is concerning, please share to help find Katelynn. She was last seen at Pelham Parkway and White Plains Road on August 2nd.
This is getting so fucking scary. And yet, no news media coverage.
Aliens are probably involved.
America’s pungent corpse flowers are all mysteriously blooming at once
Botanists across the US are trying to figure out why so many titan arums – better known as corpse flowers – are blooming simultaneously around the country this year.
This is super weird, because there have only been 157 recorded blooms ever between 1889 and 2008. But this year in the US alone, at least seven flowers have bloomed.
2016 continues
2016 is a weird year
Eric Garner’s daughter calls race relations town hall televised by ABC a “sham”
The town hall was billed as an opportunity for Americans to talk openly about race with President Obama. But Erica Garner, Eric Garner’s daughter says she wasn’t even allowed to ask a question. And other protestors are saying this is par for the course with the POTUS.
