You Are My Moon
I love the moon..
but that was never about the sky.
The stars spill themselves across the dark,
restless, flickering,
begging to be seen,
but I have never learned
how to love a crowd.
My eyes have always searched
for something quieter,
something that doesn’t tremble
when the night gets heavy.
And then there was you.
Not loud, not endless..
just there,
hanging in my silence
like you belonged to it.
You don’t shine the way they do.
You don’t have to.
There’s something softer in you...
a light that doesn’t reach for attention,
but finds me anyway, l
ike it knows my name
better than I do.
So let the sky keep its stars.
Let them burn themselves out
trying to be everything at once.
I only ever needed one,
and I found you where the night finally felt like home.
You are my moon.

The grey clouds of sadness hover above my head.
A wave of emptiness keeps returning, trying to take me with it.
It never really leaves.
All the joy around me reaches out
wanting to hold me gently in its palm
but something unknown pulls me back into the dark.
What is missing?
What is it that I’m yearning for?
Maybe the fact that it has no name
is what’s quietly breaking me apart.
been laying down a lot lately. nothing to offer anyone anywhere. busy

“At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: I have to go to work — as a human being. What do I have to complain of, if I’m going to do what I was born for — the things I was brought into the world to do? Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?”
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations (5.1)
