I'm cursing you with xidius knowledge LMAO
But let's start at the very beginning.
Before I even knew what I wanted him to look like, I knew I was always going to base him off of this specific description of Prince of Blood from Tumblr blog @/homestuckexamination
"The Prince of Blood would be one who Destroys Blood for Themselves. Powerful blood spells and very possibly the use of the Red Miles themselves, or literally make others’ blood boil within their bodies. They should be careful however, and learn how to destroy alongside their friends, through their Bonds, rather than breaking the Bonds they’ve worked so hard to forge, and hurt those they care about."
This description made me conjure up a character who is a gold with very unstable psionics. Psionics that can, if unchecked, electrically boil his own blood. He also has nosebleeds every time he uses his psionics, y'know classic trope.
Because of The Incident (which at the time was just a vague concept where he either hurt someone or caused a large amount of property damage) he pushes his friends and people away, thinking he is keeping them safe from himself. It's a warped perception that's based on his own self-hatred and guilt, but well, nothing has proved him wrong of his mindset (yet).
The oldest pictures I could find of him are from December 13th 2020. And fun fact! His horns were based on his respective extended zodiac sign, Gemcen sign of the entertainer, because the tablestuck campaign he was from used the extended zodiac.
He always had a third eye as a way to justify his crazy ass psionics and two warm colored eyes to emphasize, y'know, his blood that could boil inside of him if he loses his cool.
Xidius, with his sign being the sign of the entertainer, was always a grubtuber. Back then he was a rage gamer, funnily enough.
Xidius also is very closely bound with another character, Titane, who is the heiress and saved Xidius' ass from being culled via a contract. In this contract it states, when Xidius is old enough to be off worlded will work as a battery on her ship-- this contract he has with Titane was also baked into Xidius' character since his earliest concept days.
Now the biggest shift in Xidius' design came with the new campaign i exported him into, Bloodpact.
In Bloodpact's universe, the extended zodiac doesn't exist, which is why the players had to come up with new signs... Which uh. Took awhile for me...
Later I added a little dot in the sign (to represent the third eye) and changed his horns to reflect his new sign, because in Bloodpact the signs tend to be based on the horns.
Not exactly sure when I decided I should make Xidius' orange eye yellow, but his eye colors (and his hair if you wanna be specific) are supposed to represent CMYK. The whole idea of printers needing ink and ink being an important motif/component in Bloodpact (gotta have something to sign all those contracts with).
He later became associated with Greek mythology more, and I named his three-headed bloodhound lusus Argos.
Now no one asked, but you might be wondering what kind of grubtuber he is if he isn't a rage gamer. Well, he's the type who makes joke inventions and is specifically based on Michael Reeves. And that is only because someone told me that I reminded of them of Michael Reeves. When I inquired who that was they said, "y'know the guy who electrocuted himself to force himself to dab." Here is a visual I drew from when I streamed mspaint to a friend and explained Xidius' lore.
But in all seriousness, Xidius is very special to me because he represents a lot of my struggles (especially the Big struggle everyone had in 2020...)
If Xidius can manage to fight for a happier end rather than dying alone inside a refurbished government arctic base in troll Greenland, then shit man, why can't I?
