Happy 5th birthday to this blog! 🎉
Five years ago, I started this blog as a place to create and share affirmations for myself and anyone else who needed it. I decided from the get-go that this would be purely a place of positivity; this wouldn’t be a forum for discourse or advocacy, but just a collection of positivity posts for myself.
Very quickly it became clear that I was not the only person who benefited from an account like this one. Within months I had thousands of followers, and this little community saw me through my first couple of years as an out bi woman. It spawned a book club which is still going strong, and between us we crowd-sourced advice for many a confused anon!
I’ve been mostly absent from tumblr for the past couple of years for a number of reasons, only occasionally going on to see what’s been happening, but when I got an email notification today about this blogs 5 year anniversary I thought it was time for a little life update!
I’ve been working full-time freelance for two and a half years now, including working with the LGBTQ+ community in my city, facilitating a social group and putting on events at Pride. I have found my people in the real world, and it’s everything I never knew I needed!
I have the most amazing girlfriend who I met last year. I never thought I would meet someone like her, and I love her so much. Being with her is unlike any relationship I’ve had before, and I’m so grateful that we met.
So, life is good! To be cliche, it gets better. I found my people, first here and then in the real world, and I hope that for some of you this blog was a part of that journey too.
Which just leaves me to say, happy 5 year anniversary! Here’s to a few more years of me sporadically trawling through tags and reblogging stuff…
