i know this is a privileged way to think because lots of people aren’t allowed the chance to not see bad stuff but do you ever get tired and depressed and overwhelmed by how bad everything seems to be? like sometime I want to just ignore the news for a while but i know i shouldn’t because it’s important to stay informed but it’s hard i guess which is like stupid cause it’s obviously harder for people who live it. idk you don’t have to respond to this lol p.s. I like your blog and I think i’ve learned stuff from you so thxxxx
Okay but think of it this way - whose lives are you tangibly improving by refusing to let yourself take breaks from the news? Because the answer is generally no one's. "Always thinking of the bad stuff happening in the world" isn't actually activism. It does not automatically translate to anything but making yourself miserable and stressed out all of the time. Yes, many arguments can be made for "staying informed", but translating "staying informed" to "never allowing yourself breaks from contemplating the horrors of the world" just makes your life more miserable, usually without this translating into making a difference for anyone else. I can't claim to know whether you do activism, but if you do, it matters even if you aren't preoccupied with other people's suffering 24/7, and if you can't, feeling guilty about it all the time is still purposeless suffering.

Trying to make sense of other people’s actions will drive you to insanity.
