v1point0:
Zheng himself remained upright, damn-near rooted to the ground in place, legs and back straight though his arms remained crossed for a moment longer. “I am.” He admits, but his tone lacks any of the anger that might be customary in someone who has taken offense in the actions of another. Not that he is being dishonest, either. Dark hues scan idly over the mess that had been made of Ryker’s arm.
“One of us had to have fun today, I suppose. Congratulations.”
“It’s not about fun, Zheng. It’s never been about fun,” he hums in response, allowing limbs to cross gently, careful to avoid bloodying his clothing too much. After all, his injuries would rouse definite suspicion, but he was quick to get himself out of such situations. A sigh is given after a moment and he breathes, “Look, it wasn’t planned. I found something in the database -- I must have overlooked it before.” Eyes scan briefly, reflective of numbers and codes if only for a split second. “I was upset.”
v1point0:
“I ask that you refrain from doing so.” Zheng sighs, stopping in his tracks and crossing his arms. “I… also ask, as a friend, that you refrain from continuing this jest.” He’s always careful about that, especially when on their own- He asks. He requests. Ryker always knows that nothing Zheng says is ever an order, but when they are far away from the watchful eyes of the inner city, Zheng finds it necessary to reaffirm this by carefully, consciously asking. “It has been a long day.”
“As you wish.” The silverette exhaled, slouching slightly as he allowed himself to rest against the cooled bricks of a building whose name he knew, but refrained from allowing it’s history and inhabitants to slip his mind and make a robot of him once more-- tricky, tricky wiring. A hand raises to tug at his sleeve, shrapnel ripping at his skin, eating it’s way into his bloodstream yet he picks at it with no real sense of urgency. “You seem upset -- are you offended that I didn’t take you with me? Personally, I’m regretting it, seeing as they did a full biometric reboot out of nowhere this morning -- could have avoided this,” he offers his arm toward the other with a shrug and continues to pluck at it. “Though I suppose it’s better than dying.”
v1point0:
“Two entire sets of ordinance about the emotion, and yet here we are.” Zheng raises a brow, gesturing vaguely at their surroundings. “Father forbid the crumbling outer city buildings see you smirking.”
“I can read them aloud if you so wish,” he taunts, giving a wave of skeletal digits as he circles the other, “as far as the outer city goes, it was in dire need of a remodel, don’t you think? Of course, I am simply basing my statements off of yours as C6-Bio code number 452 prevents me from having an opinion of my own.”
v1point0:
“Someone appears to be very proud of themselves this evening.”
“The direct expression of and/or feeling of pride is prohibited by C1-Bio codes number 1278 & 3409 -- I am afraid you are mistaken.”
v1point0:
“Your concern is misplaced and unnecessary. I am fine.”
“You are a worrywart. Also, please do not stand there. I would not recommend dumping over the contents of the canister behind you.” Highly flammable, difficult to remove from clothing.
“—you are still giving me a look.”
"If you insist," the silverette offered in response, allowing the notion of his own unnecessary concern in light of the fact that often his thoughts were misplaced or scrambled about by an overpowering knowledge of numerical codes and totalitarian laws. Regardless, he had already assessed the surroundings, as any well-trained bodyguard should have. "It is empty," came his voiced response, eyes wavering slightly as he took in the later remark.
"--it is hard not to."
“It is the gentlest of requests.”
"If that is what you so wish, Zheng; a change of expression, however, does not absolve my concern."
“Stop that—”
"Is that an order?"

"Here, kitty-kitty." And cue the overdramatic finger waves.
He understood why Ryker was so uptight when they were at home, and it doesn’t make Zheng angry in any way; contrary, it often makes him want to laugh. As if the O Powerful Leader Shun Lan didn’t already know that his son still saw Ryker as more than just a bodyguard. The two had been friends as children, and no amount of reprogramming or time in jail could change Zheng’s view on his silver haired companion. Still. Caution is a blessing and secrecy a necessity.
“I have not gone over my recommended carb intake yet this week.” He muses, climbing off the bed and curling his toes into the carpet. It was new, still soft and not dirtied yet by years of being walked on. “We should go out this afternoon.” He poses it as a decisive statement, because that’s how someone of his stature is meant to speak to their bodyguard, but the tone of his voice and sheer experience should be enough to let Ryker know there’s no attempt to truly control him. “Pizza, maybe.” Anything is better than the pre-made foods Zheng ate at home based on his diet plan.
Zheng's words never registered as an order to him; a suggestion, an idea, an imperfect communication of feelings or emotions, but never an order -- not once had there ever been any attempt on Zheng's part to access the functioning recesses of Ryker's biocircuitry. No matter how hard his father had tried to mold him into the perfect heir, it seemed within Zheng's very nature to resist. A respectable trait in Ryker's eyes, for it was rather hard to resist taking on the traits of such a powerful and fearsome man. To Zheng, Ryker was a guardian, a friend; to Shun Lan. however, the silver haired rebel was nothing more than a faithful dog -- an iconic plaything for those who knew of his true origins. There was a cruelty in Shun's eyes that Zheng lacked altogether -- something Ryker knew the boy would never develop.
A smile was given at the thought, head bowing slightly at the other's suggestion, "I will follow you wherever you wish, Zheng, as are my orders." An indication of his approval, one might call it, for if he disapproved of the idea he might have recommended something more healthy. "It has been quite dangerous in the lower sectors, however, so I do suggest remaining within those of the upper levels though, if you wish to stray, I will act as your guardian nonetheless." Though he doubted he needed to reiterate that well-known fact.
ᶦᶰᵖᵘᵗ ᵈᵃᵗᵃ ❞ - - - ╏▐ Stares.
Stares.
“How you manage to have less of a sense of humor than me is a wonder.” He rolls his eyes, closing his laptop. If there’s one thing he hated about school, it’s the fact that he never gets a break from it. Year-round schooling, only one day off each week, and only a few government holidays off. “We should go and find something to eat.”
"Humor is a commodity granted only when we are beyond the reaches the government's ears and eyes, I am afraid. As it were, the emotion is a direct violation of code 5917 and strictly prohibited in the presence of a city watch member," came the usual repeated drawl, sounding rather robotic as the information was leaked from the recesses of his mind. Perking up only at the mention of food, crystal blue pools blinked once or twice before he asked, "What would you like to eat, Zheng?"
