How to write friendships
Well-written relationships between characters are what makes a story beloved. And while writing romance has it's own difficulties, it's even more tricky to write good and believable friendships.
What role do friends play in a story?
It depends a bit on if the friendship is between MCs or if the MC is friends with side-characters. The friendship with another MC could be the focus of the story and driving point for the plot. But the friendship with a side-character could help your MC to rant about their problems, to get a second opinion, to get an honest truth, to see a situation from another perspective and to realize that they are not alone in this. They can also be helpful to show your MCs regular life outside of whatever special happens to them in the story and helps to show why your MC is the way they are.
Types of friends
the best friend
the friend group
the situational friend
the old friend
The best friend - they share almost anything with each other, their opinions matter, able to tell them off if they are wrong, closest thing to a sibling, people know them as a duo
The friend group - in on all the tea, give honest opinions, help out where they can, can have deep, but also very casual scenes
The situational friend - friends because of circumstances (having classes together, being on the same sports team, having mutual friends), are friends when they see each other, don't really seek each other out outside of that situation, knowing about specific parts of each other's life, but not other parts and wouldn't share deep conversations
The old friend - think about childhood friend vs. college friend - the friends have met in completely different parts of each other's lives, know each other in different ways and probably have a different understanding of each other, the old friend would probably not know everything about their life right now, but they still fall back into old patterns with each other (good and bad)
Give them something in common & some differences
Humans like to flock together with people with similar interests, personalities and lives. So give your fictional friends things they have in common. Sharing the same goal, liking the same things, having compatible personalities, having the same outlook on life,...
But friends are not a carbon copy of each other. Give them some differences that don't hurt their friendship in the long run, but rather some that can the characters can build off of these differences. Taking advice from a friend who has more experience with something, a friend who sees things a bit different, or becoming more confident because of their friend's confidence.
More tips
Make sure to give the friends their own life. They are not just there to bounce ideas off with your MC. They should have their own goals and personalities. Make sure they could be their own character without the MC.
To have a friendship that the reader likes and roots for, you have to make sure that the reader can see why they are friends. The quite, nerdy kid is not going to be best friends with the loud, edgy, popular kid without a believable reason. Why would they hang out if they have nothing in common? Having been friends since kindergarten is not enough of a reason to still be best friends in high school if they have nothing to talk about and don't like to do the same things and if their personalities just don't match at all.

Prompt #1282
"It was a choice you made, and now I have to live with it."
Touch Starved Prompts
It was strange to touch each other without one of them dying, but maybe touch was also something for the living.
Like magnets they moved together, pressing into each other's warmth.
There always needed to be a reason, an excuse for their bodies to touch.
Being touch-starved and needy was really starting to mess with their reputation as a tough guy.
It was like their skin was calling out for the other's gentle touch.
They didn't like to be touched by just anyone. But that didn't mean they didn't also crave it sometimes.
A coldness took over their body that only the warmth of another person could erase.
They wanted to be touched, to be missed, to be loved. Was that too much to ask for?
Leaning onto each other, just being close, was enough.
Their bodies fitting together like they always were intended to become one.
Prompt #1284
"Hi, Princess."
"Not my name."
True Idiots in Love
Asking the other one to marry them, before even being together or having confessed their love for each other
Being in a really healthy and nurturing relationship that people love to witness - without realizing they actually are in a relationship
Living together for some time, being engaged to get married, and still questioning if the other one actually really likes them or if they're just being nice and a good friend
Both trying to ask the other one out on a date, thinking the other one is talking about dating someone else
One of them breaking the news that they got together to their friends and family, excited that it finally happened - but their partner missed the memo, completely misunderstood their "getting together" story, and is still thinking their love is unrequited
Being a couple is an inside joke for them, casually "joking" about being each other's wife/husband, even in front of people who don't know it's a joke, and that make them realize that it never really was a joke

Reactions to... the other being jealous
"Aww, you don't have to be jealous."
"Do I detect some jealousy there?"
"You don't have anything to worry about."
"I'm yours, remember?"
"Don't be jealous. There is no reason for that."
"I kind of enjoy you being like this."
"Is it bad that I like your jealousy a tiny bit?"
"I feel really flattered."
"Why did you act like that?"
"This is not like you. What's going on?"
"Oh, jealousy looks good on you."
"You're not allowed to be jealous. Not after everything that happened."
"Promise me you will talk to me next time, ok?"
"Stop it. You have nothing to worry about."
"Jealousy is a normal feeling. Just don't let it consume you."

OT3 Ideas
Can be used for even more partners!
1. Holding both their partners’ hands doesn’t leave room to do anything else
2. Loving to be in the middle while sleeping
3. Swapping all their clothes, even though they have different body types
4. Sharing a bathroom with a bunch of people is a nightmare, especially when all of them have to go to work
5. Having different pet names for their different partners
6. Being super excited when they finally have a shower big enough for all of them
7. Even with different work shifts, there will always be at least one partner home to eat dinner with
8. Finding a travel destination all of them enjoy is not the easiest endeavor
9. They have a routine for everything, who cooks, who cleans, who does the dishes,… it’s much easier like that with so many people in one relationship
10. Fighting over who is riding shotgun and therefore gets to pick the music, and who is sitting in the back like a child
11. Labeling items with their names that they have the same of, that they don’t want to get confused, like mugs or toothbrushes
12. Trying to take the same day off, so that all of them can spend the day together
13. Always putting one partner as their phone’s lockscreen and the other as their background
14. Sharing a Netflix account and screwing each other’s watch-lists up, because they like different things and don’t always have time to watch everything together
15. Meeting new people and letting them figure out that there is more than one partner can be a lot of fun

Hi!! I absolutely LOVE your page btw! I was wondering if you had any prompts for a childhood friends to enemies to lovers trope?
Hi and thank you!
@glossyvirgo2021 asked me the exact same thing and it's a bit hard to write something like this without any further info (what exactly means enemy in this context and how old are they during all of this), but I tried to come up with some dialogue prompts that fit into the trope. Mostly on the stage from enemies to lovers.
Childhood friends to enemies to lovers prompts
"You broke my heart, you idiot. And the first time always hurts the most."
"Why do you always seem so angry with me?" "Why? You really have to ask me why I'm angry? You left me when I needed you!"
"I actually miss being friends." "I don't actually want to be friends anymore."
"We used to be best friends. What happened to us?" "Well, we got older."
"Mistakes were made, I get that. But shouldn't we start to try to get past them?"
"We were always a good team. And we could still be one."
"I miss how we were back then." "The good old times are not coming back." "But maybe we could try again for the future."
"What's the saying? With friends like you, who needs enemies?" "Maybe I don't even want to be just friends anymore."
"We grew up together..." "And we also grew apart."
I hope you both like them!

Dialogue Prompts
"I'm sorry for how it ended." "I'm sorry that it ended at all."
"Do you still have place for me in your life?"
"Three years was not enough to get over you."
"We'll always find our ways back to each other."
"I couldn't stop loving you, even if I tried. And I did try for some time. But it didn't work."
"Seeing you again brought everything back."
"It was a mistake to just go away. We should've fought more for what we wanted." "We are doing it now."
"Being back in your arms is everything I wished for since we broke up."
"I can't believe you would actually take me back."
"Do you have any idea how much I wished to take it back? To just go to your house and apologize?" "I would have waited for you. I did wait for you. Even if it took some time, you are here now."
"I shouldn't have ever let you go away. I need you by my side."
"The fight we had was so stupid and breaking up was irrational."
"We work much better as a team."
"I don't ever want to lose you again."
"It was the right thing at the time. We weren't ready for it." "Do you think we are now?" "Yes, absolutely."
"People called me crazy for letting you get away. And they were right."
"I will never let you go again."
"We were both so hurt that we didn't see how much the other one was hurting. I hope that we're now able to look past that and be able to heal together."
"Honestly? I never stopped loving you."
"Let's never break up again. Ok?"
Text Prompts
Having broken up, but still living in the same area they keep running into each other. At the park, the grocery store, the laundromat, … everywhere.
They are still in the same friend group and they want to make it work as friends. But hanging out all the time makes it hard to get over each other.
Person A moves to another apartment and finds some of Person B’s, their exes’ stuff while moving and the former lovers meet up for the first time since the break-up to exchange the goods.
While not having adopted it together, Person A’s pet becomes miserable after Person B stops being over, so finally they have to arrange for a meeting in a park, like two divorced parents.
They are still each other's emergency contact. Which becomes apparent when one of them ends up in the hospital.
Having their car breaking down by the side of the road is bad enough. Their ex being the one to come save them is even worse.
They had already booked everything for their friends' destination wedding before they broke up. To celebrate them and not lose their deposits they decide to still share the hotel room.
Person A’s family still invites Person B to all of their family events. And Person B actually goes.
They bought tickets for their favourite band’s concert one year in advance. It’s been a few months since their break-up and they believe the emotions have calmed down a bit, so they decide to still go together when the time comes. But maybe they don’t have calmed down that much, when their song comes on.
They know each other best. Even after their break-up their ex is still the first person they want to call when something good or bad happens.

Hello! Could you please write some dialogue prompts or scenarios of two people who are exes but they both still love each other. Person A is trying to move on but Person B keeps trying to improve themselves and win A back. They broke up due to different goals in life and A thought it was better for them to break it off.
Hi :)
Exes Dialogue Prompts
"I will better myself. You'll see." "I'm happy to see it. But it doesn't change anything."
"Don't you love me anymore?" "You know I do, but that's not enough."
"I don't know why we even broke up." "And that's a problem."
"We just have different goals in life. They... we are just incompatible."
"I wish you would give me another chance." "I wish you would see why I can't go back to how things were."
"If people still love each other, then they should be together." "That's where we disagree."
"I still care for you, I really do. But I also care for myself and I feel like it's good how it is now."
"Come on, you can't have already moved on." "Of course not. But I want you to believe me when I say I'm trying to get there."
Have fun with them!
