goodbye nyc from top of the rock
Bummed that we missed our sunset booking at the top of the rock a few weeks ago we decided to hit this tourist destination first thing this morning! Whilst we look like we just got out of bed it was a great way to say goodbye to the city. The views were amazing!
mad dash eating spree with enoch and nicole
Mad panic struck us on our final day as we realised that this would be the last opportunity to enjoy all the food that is in NYC! Few photos were taken in the following 7 hour window as it was spent eating and drinking frantically with our friends Enoch and Nicole!
5:00 pm - STANDARD HOTEL BIERGARTEN (CHELSEA)
6:00 pm - CRIFF DOG & PDT (PLEASE DON'T TELL)
8:30 pm - CHICKALICIOUS
9:30 pm - MOMOFUKU MILKBAR
10:15 pm - LA ESQUINA
2:00 am - FOOD COMA
williamsburg flea and smorgasboard
Bic and I spent the last four nights of our trip living in a cute brownstone apartment in Cobble Hill. Whilst we were constantly drawn back to Manhattan we did take the opportunity to explore the chilled atmosphere of Brooklyn and eat ourselves silly at the Williamsburg Smorgasboard! Our grilled cheese and horchata obsession was definitely revived this morning!
brooklyn botanical gardens
Our last full day brought with it the most lovely goodbye weather which we enjoyed at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Despite the huge clean up that was being undertaken following Hurricane Sandy it did not disappoint! It was a chilled way to begin the day and Bic sure did enjoy posing with the flowers!

bic & mum in the bahamas
We have arrived at the Bahamas. First stop was into Nassau which is the main town. We took the local bus around which was an interesting experience and talked to the locals to find out where to eat and to learn about the town.
We were introduced to the local watering-hole and proceeded to order fritted conch which is essentially a sea snail, fried chicken, and the local beer Kalik. The conch had an interesting taste but I'm still craving those chicken wings. The local beer Kalik we were told was named from the sounds of the cowbells heard during the annual Bahamian festival of Junkanoo.
Oh and did we mention the sea water is the clearest we've ever seen! Warm weather and clear skies. Next stop is the long and thin island of Eleuthera where the eastern side faces the dark blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean, and the western side faces the calm turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.
We made it onto the webside of the inside out project in nyc by the artist jr. Check out the link to see bic & mum.
east village and ice cream with shemanda
We have spent the past few days staying and exploring East Village which is an entirely different scene compared to Chelsea. There is a lot more food shops around and we have taken full advantage of this. Multiple meals and the discovery of ramen comparable to the ones found in Japan has not put mum and I in good shape for the Bahamas.
Regardless we pushed on with Shemanda and had a great time getting massages, late night karaoke, and eating ice cream and desserts at our favourites (Chickalicious, il Laboratoria del Gelato & Van Leeuwen).
shemanda and bicmum eat
prada and the great gatsby
Love the SOHO Prada fitout by Rem Koolhas! Got a wonderful opportunity to take lots of happy snaps that is usually not permitted due to the release of the Great Gatsby. They filled the store with the costumes from the movie, was absolutely dripping in pearls and sequins and all things vintage!

shemanda visit bicmum in chelsea
Our friends Shemanda have arrived in New York and the first thing we did of course was eat. It's great to have them here as it reminds us of home.
Highlights have been riding around central park and visiting the MET again for the 5th time. I think we will try and squeeze in one more visit before we leave. We also saw a ice hockey game, New York Rangers vs New Jersey Devils which the Rangers won 4 - 0, but if we were to go watch another game we will remember to double up on coats as Madison Square Garden was like a freezer.
Mia, you will love New York and the Van Leeuwen ice cream truck. They have a store but buying from their trucks are more fun. They have amazing flavours and our favourite is the Earl Grey Tea.
Packing all our clothes and clearing the apartment in Chelsea seems like we are packing up our lives. We definitely made the apartment feel like home, and when we next come back to live or visit here again we know exactly where to stay.
home at chelsea
Since arriving back from Washington DC mum and I have come to the realisation that we are entering the final stages of our long holiday. We still believe that there is plenty of time left to do, see and experience things but as we have become settled we can't help but feel a bit sad at the prospect of having to pack up and leave our apartment in Chelsea. So to counter that we have been walking a lot, did things like spending lots of time in the Chelsea market, saw the 9/11 Memorial, visited the Jewish Heritage Museum, and went inside the New York Public Library.
Of course we can't forget the food!! We are obsessed with Shake Shake that I have lost count the number of times we have eaten at this fast food burger joint. It is amazing and I don't believe I will get over this when we return. They need to bring this back to Melbourne pronto! You can even see mum eat a chip and burger at the same time. We have also been having morning breakfast at Murray's Bagels and morning desserts at Billy's Bakery to have their banana cream pie.
Our friends Shemanda will be visiting us on their short New York holiday and there is where our belly's will grow even further!
