here’s a quick floyd tale o’ woe some of yall might find amusing.

english punk band the damned are pretty influential on the development of punk and goth music. they also are very big early pink floyd fans.

for their second studio album, music for pleasure, they tried quite hard to get syd barrett as their producer. you’ll all be very shocked to find out that this didn’t end up happening.

they did, however, get nick mason to do it.

the album went on to be a massive critical failure that resulted in the band breaking up for a little while.

on a lighter note, it is also the reason we have this very funny photo of nick mason with a bunch of punks:

quick aside: if you’re big on barrett-era floyd or, even better, early post-barrett floyd trying to sound like barrett; check out “nice cup of tea” by the damned. it’s an old demo track of their’s that has a distinct paint box vibe to it that you’ll probably really enjoy.
