Imagine being the criminal who returns weekly to make sure his fucking plant art is doing alright
Later
I found it! I fucking found it! In my fucking dash! Nothing can stop me now! *EVIL GIGGLES*
OMG SAME RIGHT I SAW IT A YEAR AGO AND WAS UPSET I COULDNT FIND IT AGAIN

no one ever talks about the part of adhd where everyone in your class has got their group of friends and you’re just there, mindlessly tagging along with anyone who is willing to put up with you for a few minutes. either you’re too loud or too quiet. if you’re lucky, it won’t affect you much. you’re a loner, so what? but then the moments come around where you find yourself yearning to be like the others. you’re not depressed, why would you be? you’re a child who just happens to be a little different. sure, you’re usually the last choice when it comes to groups and you’re rarely, if ever, invited to birthday parties but… it’s alright. everything is fine. or is it?
for the people questioning whether this really is part of adhd or not
In case anyone was wondering, this is Dr. Russell Barkley, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and expert on ADHD.
This quote comes from his lecture “30 Essential Ideas You Should Know about ADHD,” which you can find on YouTube as a 27-video playlist. This part is specifically in the second video of that playlist (about 8 minutes in).
I highly recommend watching these videos. If you can’t focus that long (I can’t, lol), then open the transcripts and read through them. Lots of info.
Fascinating how this is the case and yet when you try to look up the difference between autism and adhd online one of the big things that comes up is ‘social competence‘
Yeah, social issues are a massively ignored part of ADHD.
In the video, Dr. Barkley talks about components that play into social issues for ADHDers. Emotional dysregulation is #1 on his list.
In Driven to Distraction, Doctors Hallowell and Ratey add:
People with ADD may not make friends or do well socially simply because they don’t know how. They don’t know the rules. They don’t know the steps of the dance. They have never been taught what we all assume everyone learns as second nature. People with ADD may lack this second nature. They may need lessons in how to interact. Social “reading” can be as difficult for these people as the reading of words.
Add in the trouble focusing, the mood changes, the memory issues, the obsessive and constantly changing interests, and the delayed brain development, and it’s obvious ADHD affects a person’s social life.

THE BEGINNINGS OF KAWAII
No, no, you have no idea. It actually IS the beginning of the whole so-called “kawaii culture”. And it started because girls started using mechanical pencils, which provided fine handwriting. After being banished (more precisely, during the 80s), this kind of writing started being used in products like magazines and make-up. And, during this time, icons we usually associate with the whole kawaii industry (like the characters from Sanrio) came to life too.
And what many people don’t realize is that this subculture was born as a way for young girls to express themselves in their own way. And it was also used as something against the adult life and the traditional culture, often seen as dull and boring and oppressive. By embracing cuteness, these young girls (and adult women, after a while) were showing non-conformation with the current standards.
So yep. Kawaii is important, and it all started with cute, simple handwritting a few hearts and cat faces in some girls’ school notebooks <3
!!!!!
NO OK THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!
This is also how the kawaii fashions started! Girls began dressing in cute and off beat styles for themsleves, they were criticized by adult figures telling them “you’ll never find a husband if you dress that way!” to which they began to reply “Good!”
All the japanese subcultures and fashions that evolved out of this became a rebellion to tradition and the starch gender roles and expectations the adults were forcing on the younger generations. As early as the 70s and still to this day you’ll see an emphasis on child-like fashion and themes in more kawaii styles and the dismissal of the male gaze with styles like lolita (a lot of western people assume lolita is somehow sexual due to the name of the fashion, but ask any japanese lolita and they will tell you that men hate the style and find it unattractive which is sometimes a large reason they gravitate towards the style - they can express their femininity and individuality while remaining independent and without the pressure to appeal to men)
Its so so so important to understand the hyper cute and ‘odd’ fashions of Japanese girls carry such a huge message of feminism and reclaiming of their own lives.
so are you telling me that Japan’s punk phase was really the kawaii phase
Yep. Kawaii has a lot in common with punk when you think about it. Fun quirk in cultures.

i hate that all painting-inspired clothing is monet and van gogh. well maybe some of us want artemisia gentileschi’s “judith slaying holofernes” on a skirt, ever thought about that?
not to sound like a boomer but i am so afraid for so many minors online in this day and age
for real its so upsetting to see, and this is something i saw on twitter tonight, a 13 year old girl defending a post where a 10 year old was wearing an ahegao hoodie at a con, saying she “first watched porn when she was 8” and sees no problem with it, saying ahegao is just “funny faces”, and retweets from notorious pedophiles/lolicon loving freaks
they dont know what the consequences of this kind of shit are and its so fucking scary theyre playing with fire and are so close to getting into an e-relationship with some smelly 30 year old weeb who poses as a teen or trafficked because theyre so desensitized
like i really wanna call child protective services for some of these kids
AGAIN not to sound like a zoomer but back in my day all we had were the shock sites like blue waffle, meatspin, and 2 girls 1 cup. the divide between early gen z and late gen z is unreal with the increasing amount of kids born with an iphone into their hands with the internet at their fingertips from such a young age, and how accessible porn (and a lot of times fostered through influential people with a large audience of children) is now. the brainrot of the mid 2010s online is fucking staggering and the job market for psychologists and therapists is going to skyrocket because of it.
and its disgusting how this isnt widely being talked about
i can also say i was exposed to porn at a young age because curiosity got the best of 9 year old me with the shock sites. but the reason why im not obsessed with sex now (and actually averse) is because nobody was saying the content of these shock sites were like, good? or acceptable?
which i think is a HUGE part of the issue now. it’s not just the accessibility of it, but these loli pedophile freaks are basically saying “getting off to young anime girls is hot and good and age doesnt matter actually. we shouldnt ban ahegao hoodies in public theyre just wet faces” and these 10 year olds are like “oh ok yeah!” and its so fucking dangerous to be inadvertently teaching them that through observational learning
i think also a big issue is that there aren’t that many sites for kids to do things on. now everything is on the big 3 social media sites. there’s very little sites aimed at kids like how there were when i was a kid. spriteworld, club penguin, webkinz, other gaming sites FOR KIDS. hell i would even spend weeks/months just playing games on disney/cartoon netwrk/nickelodeon sites. (these are just the ones i can name at the top of my head but there were so much more.
like did this stuff exist before? yeah. i dont think it was that huge of an issue because of the reasons you said. now it’s SO EASY to access it that you can access it by accident or algorithms will take you right too it. before you had to know what to look for/search. i get so worried when i see porn just out in the open on twitter sometimes (even tho i have a fandom account lololol) because i keep thinking of my little brother and how easy it would be for him to see stuff like that.
i think a huge part of the issue is the wave of parents just giving their children iphones/ipads with full access to the internet that started a good 5-6 years back. literally why. WHY. also, and im not an expert here, but i definitely think capitalism has something to do with it. what exactly, i dont have the words or knowledge for. but i feel like it has something to do with it all.
