where there was crime, there were supposed to be heroes - and where there were questions about why the world works that way, there were scientists. betty fell squarely into both categories, so she was here. towering buildings, people talking about superman (and a hell of a lot of birds and planes). if there was one thing she'd noticed since she'd arrived, it was that there weren't really organizations, so to speak. you didn't have a good dozen teams of heroes sitting around, dealing with all corners of the country (and the world, though betty tried to stay away from international flights). superman, batman, there was the justice league, apparently, but people seemed more interested in talking about the individuals.
made home feel like a million miles away.
since the stay in metropolis seemed like it would be, if not permanent, at the very least extended, she'd set herself up in the halldorf hotel for a while. It wasn't difficult to get herself set up -- if people thought of she-hulk, it was usually jennifer. which at present, betty wouldn't dare say she minded.
she'd started in on a late breakfast -- they'd been about to take away the whole 'breakfast buffet' thing, and she'd entrenched herself in a paper, beceause the world was so much more...grim than she'd last seen. if there weren't articles about the danger of heroes, such as they were, it was some tragedy happening somewhere else.
distracted enough, at least, that when she grabbed someone else's cup, she didn't even immediately notice.
"well this isn't- oh." she peered at the cup. the coffee was lighter than hers, but then she drank hers black in some attempt at being taken seriously, just in case a coffee order could help that. she glanced up finally, properly, making quick eye contact and muttering a quiet 'shit'. "sorry!"
