Oh that man, he's insufferable sometimes. Don't know how ma grandchild deals with him. He's either sitting his ass on my front desk, that tail of his waving about, scratching the paneling...or he's off rambling about who knows what!

All's I know is I'm trying to get the little kids who came by to watch a nice little movie, all happy and settled, then he goes off blasting with a curse word and those kids were just repeating it within a few minutes... that's why I went yelling at em.

You got all sorts of secrets, don'tcha?

Well maybe I do and maybe I don't, Child. That's why they secrets. Meant for jus me and me alone. But thank you for worrying about me, Child. I'll be right fine on my own, I'm sure.

Light crystals? Gems? What have you been hiding away there?

Oh, I got plenty o'things Child! Got me a nice set of light crystals, that used to hang around the library, before the electricity was started up.

As for hiding away, well I've got lots of things set aside. So don't worry about lil old me.

Is it usually tradition to give someone a gift when they become engaged?

Don't right know, but I'm gonna be gettin' em sumthin at least. It's a nice thing to be celebrating, even if it's just a lil something from myself.

And if I can't get em nothin off the computer, I'll just give em a little money or some gems maybe? I know light crystals were a traditional present, but that was before the core was built...

Hey David, did you hear the news? Ivy and Papyrus are engaged.

Why yes I have! Oh my gracious, my sweet grandchild is gonna get married! Oh... I neva thought I'd see the day when I had kids or grandkids, and one of em got married.

I'm so happy for em!! I gotta go get them some sumthin special fer their engagement! Thankfully I've set aside quite a bit o'gold for special 'casions like this!

[The squeaking of the walker was heard, as he went back towards his apartment, to use the computer.]

Well bless your soul, child. Thank you for worrying bout lil old me. It's gettin' harder fer me ta move around, been using my walker more often.

But I'm only gonna say this once. Ivy is my grandchild. Not 'granddaughter'. Get it right or get outta my damn inbox.

But...as fer gettin' around the library, it's a blessing when Ivy comes ova here and helps be out. They said they'd bring me some groceries and a few things I need ta make life easier for me. I love em so much, and I hope they're doing well.

Well hello there! It's been a long time since I been on this thing, child. Had a bit of issues with my old computer, and Papyrus was kind enough to fix it up right after he came on by with the little scamp actually!

Frisk, they was so nice when they were brought by, before the Royal family came and got em. Such a sweet little child. They even understood that I...well, couldn't leave the library none.

I told them, all of em, if they needed someone kind and nice ta talk with, that I was always here in the library. And I reminded em that the family movie night is for everyone, not just those who live on down here in Snowdin.

Do you have a job?

Do I ‘ave a job? Eh, sorta? Mostly jus sellin’ me wares at tha flea market, outta the piles o’ stuff I’ve got in my lil’ warehouse.

Well, I had taken tha lil one down to tha park, to play and well...ended up in a brawl with ‘nother parent ova somethin’ stupid. Knocked me tooth out, sadly.

An’ wit all tha issues I end up gettin’ in, I swear Bella’s gonna try ta jus hold me up in the house soon ‘nuff. Keep me safe and an’ all.

when did you start calling ivy by her birth name? i was under the impression she didn't share it with people.

Oh gracious, I wasn't that aware of that! They told me their real name, because I was just so worried, didn't want my grandchild to not be able to get the proper help they might need.

Granted, I gladly call myself Carrol, but that's a nickname, much in the same fashion as their name. But my name still is David Baines. But I'll still call them Ivy. I've got no problem doing that for my sweet little grandchild.

Awww, that's so sweet, Carrol! I think it really does prove a point too. I noticed that there's some relationships that appear across the timelines, that you constantly see reoccurring in multiple realities. Two monsters who love each other so much that you damn near always manage to find each other. Seeing you and Ivy helps cement that it doesn't necessarily have to be romantic. Just two monsters who mean so much to each other. I think that's beautiful. <3

Thank you, Child. It's really sweet to hear that about me and Puddin'. I've heard bits about these, other David's I guess and it does seem like we're predestined to be together somehow. But having a grandparent and grandchild platonic relationship is just fine with me.

I never really saw myself as a monster that could be really with anyone, which is why I didn't seem to mind being alone all these years. Though to be honest, me being afraid to leave the safety of the library didn't help me none either.

But I've made friends now, in Mistah Edge, Mizz Wingdin, along with their children and of course my sweet grandchild Puddin'. I don't have to be alone anymore. And that's just wonderful to me, Child.

Well, at least if that ruffian shows up again, you got your Puddin back now, huh? I bet they'd show him more than just the front door. >:3

Oh I'm mighty sure of that, Child. My grandchild has said they would possess him without a second thought. It honestly makes me feel so comforted, knowing my friend Mistah Edge, and my sweet grandchild Puddin' would do anything to help me out.

I'm very proud to call myself her grandfather. David Arial Baines, grandfather to Poppet 'Ivy' Knacket, and I believe based off my records, I'm actually the oldest monster in the Underground too. I was 85 when the Great War started, and I was 95 years old when the March of Sadness occurred.

You wouldn't happen to have gotten any special visitors today, have you, Carrol?

Special visitors? Um, not really sure what you mean there Child. But I was a bit, late getting up today and opening up the library though.

I mean, it’d be lovely to have a visitor, but Edge said he wouldn’t be able to come over today, and it’s just little old me here.

Later on tonight we’ll be showing that film ‘Bambi’ however around six pm! I’ll have popcorn, and a variety of toppings for our popcorn; along with juice and water to drink!

[Ivy entered the library, careful not to close the heavy door behind them too loudly.]

[For the time being, they didn’t bother to dust the snow off themself.]

“You got room for one more for t’night’s showing..?”

*Carrol looked over to the front door, and gasped softly.

Puddin! You need to get warmed up right away! Why didn’t you put on a hat, baby dear! C’mere, honey; I’ll get you some hot cocoa or something…

“Wh- David! I’m fine! Honest to everything above.

“It’s just a bit of snow. It won’t hurt me any. If anything, I came here t’make sure you’re doin’ okay. Between your fall and that unwanted visitor… Edge is a great guy, and I know not everyone’s a straight up liar, but I trust my own two eyes more than the Undernet any day of the year.”

*Carrol moved away from the desk and came over closer to Ivy. His movements were slow as he leaned against his walker, still relying on it to move about.

Puddin…you really do care so much about me! You know, it was because you pushed me to get that phone that…that I’m okay now anyways.

You know I missed you so much, Puddin. You been…keeping an eye out on me haven’t ya? ….thank you, dear.

“It’s like I keep tellin’ folks… Just because I was in a bad place, that didn’t mean I stopped caring about everyone. You’re still one of the most important monsters in my life. You’ve done so much for me, even if it don’t seem like it.

“I’m just… I’m sorry I didn’t do more t’help you out before I left. Finding out you got an extra 50 years on you only made me kick myself even more. Sure, you’re still the same ol’ David Baines, but bein’ older means you need t’be a bit more careful, or you might need a lil extra help. That’s something I didn’t take into consideration before I left.

“I thought leaving a note would be a enough, and it’d maybe take a couple months at most before someone filled in my shoes. I was so wrong… And hell, I don’t think a week went by when I didn’t stop and wonder if you were taking care of yourself. Did you remember your meds? Your glasses? Were you still eating right? Still floppin’ in that damn chair of yours?

“But… I’m glad you’re okay now, and that you got folks around who care about you like I do.”

*He wiped his eyes off, with a small hankerchief he kept in his pants pocket. Being careful how he moved, he waved Ivy to follow him to one of the little tables in the back seating area.

Now, Puddin’ there ain’t no need to beat yourself up over things like, coulda, shoulda, woulda…those things are in the past, honeychild. And you are here now, and that’s all that matters, don’t you think?

As for that… ill-mannered ruffian, he’s banned from the library for life. Though after what had happened, I truly don’t think he’ll try anything like that again.

Now, I know it’s been awhile Puddin’, but how are you doing? You eating well, keeping yourself healthy? Have you been going to the doctor’s like you should? You know I worry about you so much, you like…like a child to me. I had an asker tell me recently that they would like to have me as they grandfather. Honestly, if anyone would be able to call me that, I’d give you that honor, Poppet.
