still thinking about Katurah's story these past two episodes. to see her reaction to her mother's letter which ultimately manifested into a panic attack during a challenge, unlike one i've seen on this show before - to THEN find out the cause of her estrangement in the next episode. Gut wrenching. Pulled out of school at 9 years old, working 4 jobs while your parents go all in on a religious cult, becoming unsettlingly close to being a 13 year old bride (!), entering back into the school system with no support - and then becoming a civil rights attorney. And we loved her before we knew all that. Incredible. It is such a privilege to be able to witness such stories of resilience - I'm so thankful for her willingness to share. But it's fuck the producers until we know the specifics of how and why they let her mother send her a letter.

Survivor has always differentiated itself from other reality shows when it comes to the story of their contestants - in that we often times see them have such emotional journeys, even revelations about their lives back home. Leaving the show more in tune with themselves - with more clarity about their lives. With Katurah's story, I don't know if revisiting all of that trauma on an island full of strangers and cameras, after being caught off guard, was a good thing. Or a fair thing. I hope that it was.
