What Doctor Who has done to me
Do you ever see something scary out of the corner of your eye and then have a mini freak out when there turns out to be nothing there
My brother killed himself on the twenty-eighth Thursday of last year and I missed four days of work and my mom wanted to know ‘Why’. My brother he was always a fan of beauty but what he did was not beautiful at all. And last week I got the news that one of my good friends from high school had overdosed (again) except this time she’d gone too far and now she was gone. And I had a hard time falling asleep at night and her mother hugged me tight and thanked me for coming to the service but I did not want to be there at all. This is not beautiful. The girl down the street would’ve turned 21 last year and I can scarcely imagine the wild times she would’ve (should’ve) had. But she is buried six feet deep after falling nearly 300 and she did not leave a note. This is not beautiful. My freshman year of college and my roommate was beautiful and how I wanted to be just like her. But she wore herself down till she was almost invisible and if you blinked you had to go and find her all over again. So now her parents are no longer supporting her college tuition but are paying her hospital bills watching their daughter crumble. This is not beautiful. So y’all can take your narcissistic romanticizing and glamorizing of self harm and eating disorders and committing suicide and shove them as far up your ass as you possibly can. Starvation is not beautiful. Killing yourself is not beautiful. Sadness is not beautiful. This note I am writing is not beautiful. But you you are beautiful and it’s about damn time you start believing it.

I got bored and made a giant character generator. 7 different categories with at least 17 options each (some have more), including fantasy, sci-fi, supernatural, modern, and historical possibilities… which means that characters can get ridiculous really fast (like flamethrower-wielding, Feudal Japanese cyborg priestess with a pet unicorn). Have fun with what you get or try a few times if you want a serious character.
If you do make a character with this, tag ‘characterdesigninspiration’ so I can see them!

3D-Printed Cast Can Speed Up Bone Healing By Nearly 40%, The future Looks Awesome
The future is coming in hot and it’s looking bright! Not only does this 3D-Printed Cast looked awesome, But it’s based on sound science: low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) has been found to reduce bone healing time by nearly 40% with just one 20-minute treatment a day. The therapy has been tricky to administer, because it requires placing ultrasound leads on the skin directly over the bone injury. That’s impossible with an old-school plaster cast—but not with a 3D printed cast of the future.

This is glorious and even thought it doesn’t fit in the range of all the paranormal, creepy and science I usually post, I MUST share
It works like this: You tell Kitestring that you’re in a dangerous place or situation, and give it a time frame of when to check in on you. If you don’t reply back when it checks your status, it’ll alert your emergency contacts with a custom message you set up.
It doesn’t require you to touch anything (like bSafe) or shake your phone (like Nirbhaya) to send the distress signal. Kitestring is smarter, because it doesn’t need an action to alert people, it needs inaction.

"A team of designers from Sichuan University in China has developed an innovative concept cycling light which reveals contours in terrain, allowing the rider to avoid hazards at night. The concept light is designed to improve safety when night riding over uneven surfaces. A grid of light illuminates the ground. Horizontal and vertical lines warp as they pass over uneven terrain, aiding depth perception and helping the rider avoid hazards. The LED is powered by either kinetic energy from rotation of the rear wheel, or by an internal battery. The light has three modes: standard, high-speed mode and team-mode. The concept won Sichuan University’s Department of Industrial Design a 2013 Red Dot design award.”

This looks a lot like some kind of water bear or ‘tardigrade’. Tardigrades areorganisms that can survive in a physically or geochemically extreme condition that would be detrimental to most life on Earth- however, they thrive most in temperate climates. For example, tardigrades can withstand temperatures from just above absolute zero to well above the boiling point of water, pressures about six times stronger than pressures found in the deepest ocean trenches, ionizing radiation at doses hundreds of times higher than the lethal dose for a human, and the vacuum of outer space. They can go without food or water for more than 10 years, drying out to the point where they are 3% or less water, only to rehydrate, forage, and reproduce.
When humans are all wiped out, this little guy will still be doing his thing.

Sony Announces PS4 virtual reality headset Project Morpheus
Introducing Project Morpheus Shu Yoshida: Greetings from GDC 2014! Earlier this evening, I had the pleasure to introduce Project Morpheus, SCE’s prototype virtual reality (VR) system that works with PS4. Virtual reality is the next innovation from SCE that we believe will shape the future of games. I have long dreamed about VR and the possibilities it brings in regards to game development. This new technology will deliver a sense of presence, where you as the player actually feel like you’re inside the game and your emotions feel that much more real. Our current prototype for Project Morpheus features a head mounted display with 1080p resolution and a 90 degree field of view. Accelerometer and gyroscope sensors built into the head mounted unit as well as PlayStation Camera accurately tracks head orientation and movement, so as your head rotates, the image of the virtual world rotates intuitively in real-time. Project Morpheus also features our new 3D audio technology that re-creates stereoscopic sounds in all directions and changes in real-time depending on your head orientation. In addition to PlayStation Camera, Project Morpheus works with DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller and PlayStation Move to deliver an easy-to-use, plug-and-play VR experience. The prototype for Project Morpheus is the culmination of our work over the last 3+ years as we’ve refined our vision for VR. This prototype will serve as the first development kit for PS4 developers that are as enthusiastic about this new medium as we are. At GDC 2014 this week, attendees will be able to check out Project Morpheus in action at the SCEA booth through a handful of technology demos.
Specifications of “Project Morpheus” Prototype

Welcome to the future of gaming...
And Sony isn't the only one with a promising virtual reality set, soon there will be virtual reality accessible to everyone :D
