"...Ay...(...I've gotta lay off the late night snacks, I'm seeing doubles....)"
"Ay. (Corndorlg.)"
That offer of stress relief was so warm, so Big Man, that it was all Frye could do not to break down into wobbly, choked up laughter right then and there. Instead, dark shoulders slumped where she stood, the hard edges of her face softening back down into a shaky smile.
That short a run, huh... once upon a time, maybe she would've kept lashing out, boiling over about how the Stars couldn't possibly yank him for that short a time. The thing was though, that much as she hated to admit it, she'd more than seen by now that they totally could and totally would.
It was hard to bring herself to keep being mad (at least, mad at him) about the whole thing now that she'd let that initial burst of steam off her chest, especially with that in mind. After all, she'd had trouble adjusting to this place too, especially with all the mammals running about like it was nothing! If anything, the imagery she had now felt bittersweet; just how many unknown near misses had they had in that brief window?
Well, it wasn't like it mattered too much. She'd been right all this time. She'd kept their hope alive, and now they'd found him.
"Aw, Big Man..."
Without warning, she let herself topple forward, arms wide open to embrace the big guy in a breathless, tight squeezing hug. Just long enough to stress the message of forgiveness before peeling her face away, glassy hints of tears blinked away rapidly in favor of her signature wide, toothy grin.
"...y'know what this means now that we've got the three of us back together, right?"
It's a little hoarser than intended, more vulnerable. Yet the words were no less enthusiastic, her joyful declaration made plenty loud enough for the still shifting crowd to hear.
"We can start putting on shows again! REAL shows! We gotta get you to the studio, Big Man! D'ya know how to get to Golden?"
"Ay!!! Ay, ay. (Shiver, Frye, and Big Man are back!!! Radiale Island is really gonna learn what it means to have a good time, with the Anarchy Splatcast reunited.)" And despite her grip on him, he still can't help but do a little spin, essentially swinging her around too.
"Ay. Ay...Ay.... (The ward on the beach. I've been....Mistaken for a beached creature there...)" Embarrassing when some of the locals call up emergency services because they think an insanely large manta ray had managed to beach itself...
@bigmantaray
Maybe he needed to go back inside and try to end his seclusion another day. Not because of a threat to his safety, no, absolutely not-- there wasn't a man or woman on this street who could put him into a dangerous position.
No.
This is because he has stepped outside, and the first thing he saw was animated sashimi waddling around in the street. Or at least, that is what he assumed it to be. It was a fish of sorts. A fish on dry land. How much sense did that make to him? None.
He had to be seeing things. This was psychosis.
No way was that thing real.
Yeah, okay to the average passerby, this was pure insanity. But, kids didn't question anything. Which was great! All Big Man had to do was spin around and dance with his fan-like fins, and the kids would follow suit.
Mid-spin Big Man noticed the man who stared for a moment too long, and then about faced, making his exit.
"Ay! Ay ayyy? Ay! (Hey, you! You know you don't have to exclude yourself? Good vibes don't discriminate!)"
The impact from her speed comes in a tangled crash of limbs, wind knocked from her chest. Yet with the manta ray's large size, the impulsive move failed to budge him even slightly off his feet. Rather, Frye's left to stagger backwards herself, catching her breath and clutching the front of her chest in what would've been a peal of disbelieving laughter--
If not for his next words knocking every whirling shred of thought straight from her head.
"Wait, what?"
It's a rare sight to witness the bouncy squid so firmly rooted stiff to the asphalt. The casual admission rang over and over again like a bell between her ears, jaw hanging agape as she once more took in the familiar shape of his fins. His soft smile. That warm, happy shine in his eyes.
Not... the first time.
Not the first time?!
The realization set in hot and sharp, all three hearts dropping hard into the pit of her stomach. In a flashing yellow blur, she's lunged forward again with curled fist flung out hard, a furious maelstrom of conflicting emotions ripping off her tongue without time to blink.
"AND YOU DIDN'T THINK TO TELL ME?!"
"We've been looking for you for THREE YEARS, Big Man! Whaddaya MEAN, this isn't the first time?! WHERE WERE YOU?!"
Underneath the blinding rush, clear hurt pulsed through every syllable, bitter and cutting. There's little care for the public setting, for the startled crowd turning to watch their disruption.
How could he act so normal about dropping something like that after being gone all this time? Did their pledge really mean so little to him?! The group was supposed to come first!
In his defense, these phones aren't exactly manta ray friendly! Fin to glass never works very well...! If he had something more tactile with buttons, perhaps that'd be possible. But, her outburst was hardly shocking to the guy, Frye was just so full of energy...!
"Ay..! Ay ay. Ay! (Whoa, slow your sushi roll, Frye! It was a relatively short stint, it lasted as long as a turf war match. I barely got my footing, but I'm back!)" Cautiously, he pat her with his fin to be reassuring.
"Ay. (Though, if it'd make you feel better you can keep punching me.)"
My full spread for @grandfestzine ! š
Leave an object in my ask and my muse will react to it being given to them.
@charadrxxmxrr
Leave it to Big Man to try to recruit a stranger to help him play a drum based rhythm game. With plastic drumstricks in hand, the manta ray struck a pose!
"Ay! (You beat the drum to the beat of the song, using both the skin and rim of the drum when the game prompts you!)"
"Ay? Ay---Ay. (Sounds like fun, right? Oh, and one more thing---our progress is tied together, so I only do as well as you do.)"
@fiestywolfchild
"Ay! Ay..! (Careful now! The tail is real..!)" No fursuit to be seen here! And just to prove it, he loosely swung it around, almost treating it like a string toy that cats play with.
alright im slowly recovering and making icons and shit so consider this a starter call for me to chip at during the week capping this at 3!
Big Man Splatoon 3
Relatively pacifistic and likes to stay in his own lane. A real laid back manta ray, at the end of the day!
Loves a good pun.

"Wha--?"
A flash of grey through the crowd. Half a second of sight, yet still more than glimpse enough for Frye's head to snap up from the bustle of the Star Trail, eyes wide as dinner plates. She doesn't even take the time to think of or sputter out an apology to the stall owner; that was him, right? That was--
Without warning, she turned and bolted past the rest of the crowd in a dead sprint, choking the last pieces of her newest snack down just in time to launch herself at the familiar shape. Anyone watching would get to bear witness to a deafening shriek, excited, joyful, irritated and incredulous all at once:
"BIG MAN?!"
Just when did he show up?! After all this time, and she didn't know?!
This wasn't his rodeo, so to speak, while the last time he was here, Big Man didn't quite gain his bearings...He knew what he did like: and that was good food, an he knew just the place! Unfortunately, stall-like setups were never quite accomodating for someone of his stature, so he'd have to awkwardly fold his body in on itself just a little, and shuffle through the crowd.
Small apologies were uttered as he continued to navigate through the crowd, either accidentally bumping people with his tail or fins...And unfortunately, the immediate crowd around him would all get THWACKED as the call of his name was enough cause to make him swing his whole body. Oopsie...
"Ay! Ay...Ay... (Oof! Ow...Sorry...)" After uttering more apologies he could finally give Frye the proper attention she deserved.
"Ay!! Ay! Ayyy. (In the flesh! Don't tell me you're surprised to see me! It's not like this would be the first time I've been here.)" That's one way for that to come out..
č« "Games? Can you play kendama with this object?"
"Ay! (Maybe! I was thinking a rhythm game was more my type of beat!)"
č« "So, is this glowing rectangle something important? I was considering discarding it, but I assume there must be some reason I was given it?" She was waving around her smartphone.
"Ay? (You got games on your phone?)"
Ay! (In a turn of events people might've saw coming? Idk...Reapping Big Man from the Splatoon series! His application can be found on link 1 or /a. Thanks!)

"Ay! (What the ay did you just aying say about me, you little squid? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Squidbeak Splatoon, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on MakoMart, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in octoling warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire squidbeak splatoon. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the ay out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my aying words. You think you can get away with saying that poo to me over the Internet? Think again, ayer. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, squid. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're aying dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the squidbeak splatoon and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable barnacle off the face of the continent, you little poo. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your aying tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will poo fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're aying dead, kiddo.)"
