chat i’m cooking up a college au for the party and im working on designing their apartments/ the floor they are all on and i want headcannons to include if u wanna brainstorm with meee

it’s gonna be byler and henderhop slowburn with established lumax (i love the whole party being inlove with eachother sooo much they’ve been through so much together i feel no one else could really understand ykk) i think it lowkey might start with elmike still being together so i can explore the breakup cause i love them so much and want them to work through their relationship and end it on good terms

i’m also gonna be cooking up uni designs for them and everyone else

i’m also gonna have the older teens live on one floor of a different apartment in the same city cause it’s my story who cares that that’s not what happens in cannon. but i’m still deciding if i want to revive eddie for purely steddie reasons ?? but dustin’s story is sm more interesting with his grief so idk aaa

i amm gonna revive kali’s friends so she can be living happily in the city with them and visit her sister sometimes

and all the parents are gonna stay living in hawkins so the kids can go home for the holidays and such

The fact that I feel like I can no longer go back and watch my favorite comfort show because of how badly they fucked up the ending and how poorly they treated their characters across the board is so heartbreaking. It's not just about Byler not being canon it's about killing Kali and sidelining Erica and treating Lucas like his only arc was to end up with Max and canonizing Rovickie just to break them up and feminize Robin within the same season and giving El a self-sacrificial ending and deciding Will's perfect imagined ending was sending him to a city of forced happiness and Mike becoming a sad, repressed, lonely writer who was never able to tell his girlfriend he loved her and also never got to be brave enough with himself to admit there was a deeper reason why he couldn't.

Individually their endings are all so sad and I can't go back to watch my favorite moments of Mike and Will at Rink-O-Mania without knowing what I know now. I can't see El pulling out the "From Mike" letters without seeing how she settled for thinking Mike was the only one to understand her. I can't think about Lucas's struggles with fitting in and being ignored by his friends without considering how all he had in the final season was his girlfriend, whom spent most of that time in a coma. I can't think about how they brought back Kali, this symbol of agency and nonconformity and they killed her for the sake of a plot contrivance. I'm so deeply deeply sad for all of them, and it re-colors the whole show for me now. I don't know if I'll ever get to the point where it won't affect how I see earlier seasons, because all I can see is the pain that goes unresolved.
