Oh but he's not dumb and that's exactly what the game is here. He's acting dumb. It's a strategy the GOP has been using for years now to make simple things progressives and marginalized communities seek to normalize seem radical, absurd and extreme (i.e. hard to understand). He knew exactly what she meant but he wanted to act confused to make a point - to make it seem like inclusive language is wild and bewildering. Of all the things there is to discuss about reproductive rights, this is what he wanted to highlight about her statement. He wanted to trip her up. He wanted to make her angry. Make no mistake, this is chess and he was out-maneuvered.
