@bilboboggins
after a lifetime of hearing about aragorn but not reading the books or watching the movies, genuinely nothing could have prepared me for his actual introduction. the hobbits picked this man out of a dumpster. he is a textbook softspoken angst prince and he is covered in dirt and he probably smells so bad. he’s the coolest man alive and is so casual about it. his number one skill is Knowing Where They Are and his number two skill is Having A Horrible Destiny That Torments Him. tolkien got it in one i’m afraid aragorn son of arathorn you are the guy of all time
it’s the way that denethor, gandalf, and faramir are having a whole family drama taking place like a mini war within the war. like pippin suddenly gets to gondor and finds out that gandalf has this whole other child and he’s fighting the guy’s dad about it
Can tell Merry & Pippin apart, of course they can, what kind of question is that: Frodo, Sam
Could not initially tell Merry & Pippin apart but made an effort to learn their names & can now tell them apart: Aragorn, Boromir
Try as he might cannot consistently tell Merry & Pippin apart: Gimli
Can absolutely tell Merry & Pippin apart but pretends not to be able to: Gandalf
Cannot tell Merry & Pippin apart and not even trying: Legolas
where do merry and pippin fall on this spectrum
What do you mean you can’t tell us apart, I’m much taller??: Merry
“I’m Merry”: Pippin
Whenever I see the popular phrase "not all who wander are lost" used for water bottles or artsy bumper stickers on Jeeps and credited to an ""anonymous"" author I get so annoyed. Like, excuse me, that line was written by famed hobbit poet and historian Bilbo Baggins, from his poem about Aragorn son of Arathorn, the long awaited Heir of Isildur, who is destined to restore order to the race of Men return glory to the White City of Minas Tirith. We know exactly who wrote this quote, nothing "anonymous" about it.
It's amazing how Fellowship of the Ring, a movie released in 2001, has scenes that are in extreme darkness (like the giant squid fight at the gates of Moria) and I can still easily tell what is going on. It's amazing how Fellowship of the Ring, which once again is from the year 2001, has quiet dialogue scenes and loud action scenes and yet I do not constantly have to mess with the volume to hear what is being said and avoid having my ears blown out, respectively. Why is this remarkable again

May it be when darkness falls your heart will be true.

“Many places I have been Many sorrows I have seen But I don’t regret nor will i forget All who took that road with me.” (The Last Goodbye, Billy Boyd). “The Company of Thorin & the Fellowship od the Ring, after Rivendell”, watercolours and golden ink.
What’s this? A ranger caught off his guard?
Gandalf: I love all the hobbits! Bilbo, Frodo, Sam, Merry and… *reads smudged writing on hand* …Popcorn.
Bilbo: I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
